A7V333

Advantages: Cheap, Reliable, AMD board
Disadvantages: Socket A, so wont work with Intel cpu's

I bought my ASUS A7V333 for £85 online. It boasted many modern features, a good BIOS, and the ability to add loads of RAM. The ASUS motherboard costs a little less than some other motherboards, mainly because it is a Socked A board. This means that the only processors it can take are AMD Socket A processors like the Athlon 1800 that I have in mine. The board boasts the standard 5 PCI slots for all your Modem and network cards, and has the newest ...
...all of this in the ASUS probe program which is included on the CD in the box, and can tell me at this moment that my motherboard is at a warm 34*c or 93*F. So then, that is it, a fairly in depth review of an Asus A7V333. I recommend that if you want a cost-effective computer, you get your nice new AMD processor, and this Motherboard. ...

Good performance for a good price

Advantages: Good Athlon Performance at a cheap price
Disadvantages: Lacking some features

The Asus A7V333 cost me £80 over the internet. It is a Socket A board, and will take AMD Duron (600 Mhz +) and AMD Athlon XP (XP1500 and beyond). I run an XP 2000 in mine. The board comes with driver software and a few utilities. These mainly consist of monitoring utilities (eg you can monitor temperature, fan speed voltage etc). The board runs on the VIA KT333 chipset. It has 3 slots for DDR RAM. If you use PC2100 RAM, it can take a maximum 3GB. ...
...the package are a metallic Asus sticker for your case, a large sticker of the motherboard layout to attach to your case (very useful), a comprehensive manual, a quick start guide, floppy lead, IDE lead, backing plate. The model here is the basic one - I think there is one available with RAID and LAN facilities, as well as Firewire. Overall then, worth buying if you are looking for a decent Athlon XP board - but bear in mind the lack of integrated ...

Asus A7v333 review

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

I have an Asus A7V333 motherboard and as far as i can tell, i have had no issues with it at all. there are plenty of features, almost too many. it has a few problems, as it still uses old connections, like the AGP 4x slot, which makes it very difficult to upgrade the graphics card now. it also doesnt have sata. other than that, the motherboard is brilliant. it has 5 pci slots which were useful as i had a lot of cards. The other upgrade issue with ...
...type, Socket A, which makes it difficult to upgrade the processor and to find a better fan. i am also happy with the fact that it is an ATX board, so it has lots of space for upgrades, if you can find them. This motherboard is great value for money and is a budget-board. probably good as a starter motherboard. ...

Know which one you have.

Advantages: stable, fast (for single DDR), great features, good price.
Disadvantages: getting out of date, no dual channel DDR, no Barton support on older boards.

...my own undoing as the ASUS site specifically states that PCB v1.x only supports up to Thoroughbred 333Mhz, not Barton 333Mhz. Bartons will run, but they run very hot and the ASUS Qfan runs flat out the whole time, so I eventually had to replace the CPU or board, so decide dot sell this board on and upgrade to the ASUS A7N8X-E-Deluxe. BTW - I'd recommend trying to get your hands on a digital daughterboard if you have optical/coaxial SPDIF input ...

KT333 chipset, poor support

Advantages: KT333 USB2 and DDR3 PC2700
Disadvantages: via VT333 chipset is currently Sept 2002 buggy poor Asus support

...& DDR3 to PC2700. Asus historically offer great support, this board claims to talk (but it actually just plays .wav files at appropriate points) and is around £120. There are many sources on how to choose a motherboard e.g. Tom's HArdware guide, so I'm not going into that. But, I hear you say, Asus also offer: Asus probe; QFan etc. All these add on don't work. Proof again is on the Asus forum. Simply check the VIA forum, Asus support forum etc for this bug. The bug is confirmed as is no resolution as is poor Asus support etc. Advice for Asus: accept 'warm boot' bug reports and force VIA to resolve ...

A great all rounder.

Advantages: stable board
Disadvantages: agp 4x

I bought my A7V333 with an ipanel for the front of my pc as well and Im running an XP 2000 in it and its very stable with no problems. Although this board uses the via chipset it doesnt seem to have all the bugs that my previous abit boards had and my Soundblaster Live works fine without a single crackle or skip regardless of what is going on. The board can use jumpers or be set for jumperless mode and I have to say that in this day and age I really ...
...used at all and I was disappointed to have to jumper the onboard sound off and not be able to change this within the bios as it is a pain at the best of times taking the case of the pc but for someone who isnt sure it could pose some major problems. All in all I am very impressed with this boards performance and would recomend it to anyone who is looking for a board for Overclocking or running at factory speed. ...
