Disadvantages Disadvantages Better netbooks available, Poor webcam

INTRO Asus (or AsusTek), are famous for their range of computer motherboards (the big circuit board in a PC). Nowadays, they've broadened their range to other computing items such as flat screen monitors, PDAs and even laptops. Now, speaking of laptops, Asus released their Eee PC range of laptops and these were the first 'netbooks' on the market. A netbook is a laptop (or notebook) but smaller and cheaper than a standard laptop. It's always been the case of, the smaller the laptop, the higher the price tag, since they would usually be classed as 'Ultra Mobile' laptops and would be just as ... more

Advantages Advantages Great quality, good price, many features, works well, decent battery

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No HDMI/DVI

Introduction Asus are a relatively old company in the PC business, and previously focused exclusively on just desktop PC components. In the last few years they have branched out and launched everything from PC monitors to laptops. One of their more recent releases is the new range of netbooks, which they were at the forefront of - the Asus Eee PC 700 was the first mass produced netbook. With that history, you might expect great things of the 1000H model reviewed here. What is a netbook anyway? Also known as a "mini notebook" or "mini laptop", they are essentially small laptops for general use ... more

Advantages Advantages Great battery life, great features etc

Disadvantages Disadvantages Speakers are not very loud

intro This laptop is has many advantages over traditional notebooks. It may not be the fastest machine out there, but it makes up for it in portablity. In my opinion this machine is the best choice for people who are regularly on the move. This laptop runs linux or windows xp and sports many excellent features. Hardisk The hardisk (80gb) is quite spacious for this size of netbook, but if you find that you need more space you can easily upgrade the it or get an external hard disk for ASUS. GPU - Graphics The graphics is an intel integrated GMA card which can deal with most of the average users ... more

Advantages Advantages lightweight, powerful, value for money, looks great, button key setup great for big fingers

Disadvantages Disadvantages slightly annoying mouse pad, can't use some web development apps due to screen size, no HDMI slot

Having recently set up a new business, I invested in a sturdy laptop to be my main business machine. However, I had an old work laptop sitting around and a dealer was doing an offer to part exchange your old laptop in for a new one. I had been investigating netbooks as a viable travel companion and the Asus came out as a winner. It was between this and the Acer alternative - however the Asus was cheaper and I am reliable informed that Asus actually make a lot of the insides to all the other netbooks. What really sealed the deal for me though was the battery life. As the Asus is operating ... more

Advantages Advantages Light, portable, long battery life, good display and keyboard

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited storage

I bought one of these about two months ago, and without a doubt I'd say this laptop has changed my life more than any other piece of computer equipment I've ever owned or encountered. If you're looking for a laptop for work, this is one to consider. Sitting, in size terms, between traditional, larger laptops and PDA devices, the Eee is brilliant for just about any situation where you need your computer on the move. I've used it on trains (both with and without a seat), coaches, cars - and even once while walking to a meeting. While it's light and small, the keyboard is very usable, and doesn't ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages sometimes too small

EEE PC 1000H I first started looking for a netbook as a companion for my University work where having easy access to the internet lecture notes would make my life a lot easier. The EEE PC has been a great buy. I purchased the netbook 2 years ago and was worried that I would not adapt to the smaller screen or keyboard, I needn't have worried the keyboard was easy to get to grips with in a matter of minutes (I type a lot and have not had any problems with the shift key position or any degradation of the keyboard which all my previous laptops have suffered from) but the screen took a bit longer ... more

I was very lucky to get our Asus Eee PC 1000H today. The version I have here is a 10-inch Windows XP version, with 1GB RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Having only just unboxed the tiny wonder and played with it for around one hour, this is my very early impressions. Firstly, the accessories you get in the box make it seem a lot better value than other offerings. The stumpy, yet high capacity battery should yield much longer runtimes than the 3-cell batteries shipping with other netbooks. You also get a nice little manual, a polishing cloth, Support CD and MS Works 9.0 licence. There is also a slip ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, tough, reliable, quite funky

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not a lot -- gets a bit hot but so do all laptops

My 1000H has just passed its first birthday after a lot of use. It's as good as the day it was bought, with nothing going wrong/ working loose/ wearing etc -- except for the battery which now lasts around 5.5hr rather than the six I got at the start. I'll live with that, given that it's far longer than nearly all laptops and most netbooks. It's built remarkably well and feels solid and tough in use. As for day to day use, to be honest on most days I manage perfectly well without my desktop as my little Asus does everything I need except for the desktop publishing which I do for work. Speed is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Uber portable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough power or memory to do anything but surf

Well i should start off by saying i searched for quite some time specifically for a notepad/netbook style computer before I bought my eepc, believing it to be all I needed especially in terms of size and functionality . I wanted a small and ultra portable machine. I certainly got that. The laptop itself comes installed with Linux, I tried for a week to get along with this operating system but due to the fact it makes downloading anything unless you are a computer genius near on impossible I gave up. Having decided I missed windows so much my next task was to then replace linux with windows and ... more

The Eee PC 1000H is a small compact laptop for those who want an easy to use computer. The keyboard is of course more compact too but this is something that you quickly get used to. The handy feature of a built in webcam make things easier because you dont have to move the regular webcam fixture around so your face can be seen by whoever you are speaking to. What I don't like about the webcam being built in is that you cannot remove it which may give you the feeling that you are being watched The Eee PC comes with multiple USB ports and there are generally enough ports for you to go through ... more
