Abbey Loans

I have banked with Abbey for a number of years, in fact I indirectly became an Abbey customer after their merger with N & P in the early 1990s. Over this time I have had numerous personal loans with the organisation and found the application process, staff and payments to be first class. I have said 'found them to be helpful and first class' instead of 'always found' because recently I have been trying to obtain a personal loan to purchase a new car and it has proved frustrating and has exposed the level of incompetance currently flowing through Abbey following the takeover by Spainish banking ... more

I needed to consolidate a couple of loans for kitchen and car. Senior management ( wife) and the British Gas decided that we needed a new back boiler so off I trawled the internet to find the most competitive loan available. I ended up with Lloyds TSB at a competitive 8.6 APR on £10000. I applied online but had so much hastle that eventually I have up in disgust and had to look elsewhere.They did not answer my e-mails and decided that my credit scoring was not to their liking even although I fulfilled all the criteria , including solvency and a steady job.Anyway , I wish to thank Lloyds TSB ... more

I have had an Abbey National car loan now for almost 4 years (Nearly paid it all off- hooray). The setting up of the loan was easy. A few forms to fill out as usual and it was agreed very quickly. The money was deposited in my account (I have an Abbey national current account) very speedily as well and no questions were asked after I had the money as to how it had been used. The staff were very helpful and friendly and IO felt they knew thier product well. The interest rate was not the best but the lack of hastle made it worthwhile. We applied for a car loan online from Abbey National and had an answer and everything sorted within a few days. Excellent service and helpful staff. I had adverse credit history as ex-husband left me with mortgage arrears two year previously, and was having problems getting a loan eg rates very high and repayments astronomical but Abbey sorted it out really quickly. The rates were good and the repayments very cheap. we were not pushed into taking out payment protection either which is always a bonus! I am a contractor when i am working i can earn up to £1000 after deductions a week. But in between Jobs i earn nothing at all. So i applied for a bank loan to my dismay i was refused point blank saying because i did not have a regular income! I earn 7 times a normal income and am usually off work 3-4 weeks this is not my own doing but the jobs at my level are now getting very scarce.
