I have just opened Abbey's e-saver account which gives a rate of interest of 7% gross which includes a bonus of 1% for the first 6 months. As its name suggests the account is an Internet only account. I have found the account very easy to set up and the web site is clear and well-organised with quick access. I have yet to encounter any technical hitches. It is designed as an instant access SAVINGS account so I am using it as a place for spare ...
...keep my eye on the bonus and if that is discontinued after 6 months, as I expect it to be, I will move my funds elsewhere. I now have to pay a late charge and arrange to make my payment by old fashioned but nevertheless reliable cheque! Not what I would call progress. However, I've been with them for a while now using their instant savers, and I've found them to be very good. The staff are always helpful and quick to respond. They often try to help you, for example, recently recommended I use an ISA for some of my cash. I have a card for accessing my instant account, and another to access a joint account, which is also VISA ...
