AbeBooks.co.uk review

Advantageseasy to use, many choices, safe and secure

DisadvantagesThe range of choice makes it very tempting to overspend

"...first came into contact with AbeBooks.co.uk when a one time beau unearthed a piece of mild erotic fiction - Plaisir D'Amour - and had it sent to my home address. I was almost as excited to find out about such a site as I was to reread those short stories which had fuelled my own imagination many years earlier. From then on, I was an AbeBooks addict. I have used the site to look for new and out of print works, have bought school and university ..." Read review

Abebooks - something of a specialist site

AdvantagesObscure books at low prices

DisadvantagesNot that well-known, limited range, delivery varies

"As a student, I'm regularly faced with the task of finding textbooks as cheaply as possible - and this is where Abebooks shines. I've found several texts on there for less than half the price (which is handy when you consider the average textbook is anywhere from £40-60.) If you have the basic information about the book you want - Author, Title and/or IDSN, finding (or not) your book is quick and easy. Results are displayed with a brief, but comprehensive ..." abebooks.com

Advantageseasily searchable

Disadvantagesdealing with people with variable knowledge

"right lets be honest to start with I sell books on abe so have a vested interest but from this viewpoint I can tell you the pros and cons of the system. Abebooks.com seems to me to be the most comprehensive second hand book site. It has a very easy initial layout - you can search by highest /lowest prices- by country or world wide. The search is straightforward but you must remember a couple of things. If price and cheapness are your main criteria ..." Read review

Brilliant resource

AdvantagesAccess to a huge array of books

DisadvantagesNone

"...local book stores, I found abebooks.co.uk online. Following a quick search, I found a number of the books I was looking for, with a number of options as to price and condition. The options to buy books from abroad, at a drastically cheaper price is also a bonus. I have to admit that it was quite tempting to select the "first edition" or "signed copy" boxes, but the prices - not surprisingly - sends the prices shooting right up. The books always arrived ..." Want a book-Find it here

AdvantagesFind any book

DisadvantagesThey add charges

"Abebooks is an excellent website where you cannot only find that obscure book you need for university studies but you can also find original copies of your family members favourites. The website itself is well set out and with the advanced search it is quite easy to find the exact copy of the publication that you require. This includes signed copies, first editions, and those with dust jackets. As long the members have a copy of your book you ..." Read review

Find that rare book!

Advantagescomprehensive search engine, site easy to anvigate and use

DisadvantagesOccasionally listed books may have been sold

"I have been using ABE Books, an online search service (www.abebooks.com) which links together booksellers in the UK and the US. Its speciality is in finding rare and out of print books on any topic you care to imagine. I have to report a high degree of satisfaction with the service, although occasionally I have found that some books listed are no longer available from the bookstore in question, as they don't update their lists too often. A special ..." Read review

Get cheapest books online!

AdvantagesCheap books, delivered on time,

Disadvantagesnone for buyers, only established sellers should sell here

"I recently came across this website when i had to buy some books for my medical registration exam, and i was totally into it. As everyone knows medical books are really expensive and i tired almost every retailer under the sun but couldnt find cheaper books anywhere but abebooks.co.uk. Buying on Abebooks Its a very simple yet attractive website which features thousands of books, you can either search by title, authors or isbn. Once you've found ..." Read review

My Thoughts...

AdvantagesVariety, cost, availability

DisadvantagesMore people aren't aware of it.

"Reading is a hobby I enjoy doing in my free time, and I like to get books of different principles, ideas, and beliefs. With this in mind, web sites that offer such a variety are hard to find. When I found AbeBooks.Co.UK, I discovered a vast array of exciting novels, poetry, plays, etc. AbeBooksCoUK has a large selection of reading material, and the products are sold at a very reasonable price. One thing that stood out to me, is that they have material ..." Read review

Quick review of AbeBooks.co.uk

"I bought this book from a charity shop after reading another one of her books that I brought from a boot fair. I enjoyed it as it was deeply engrossing and it kept me interested and I found that I was kept wondering what was going to happen next. I found I got involved and wanting to get answers to the questions that Temperence was asking in the 'who', 'why' and 'when'. Overall an excellant book for anyone who enjoys a good thriller. Also I enjoyed the series 'Bones' on the tv and watched with great interest to see what would happen next.

AdvantagesEASE OF USE

DisadvantagesTOO REMOVED AND COLD

"I have bought many books off of the internet through the big search engines like abebooks and Justbooks and watched the ups and downs with frustration. Massive advantages are gained from these sites but nothing can beat getting to the bookshop itself. ABE is very hot but you lose the intimacy of a true bookshop. This is reflected in the website design as well ABE tries to be warm and does a great job in the process but once you get past the corporate ..." Read review

Selling on ABE

AdvantagesYour books are visible to the world

DisadvantagesVery few seem to sell

"I listed about thirty quality books for 12 months on ABE. Only one sold a car book to a bookshop in Texas. So the world is your market bit worked. I am in the UK. I researched the prices of identical books and always pitched them lower but to no avail. What are other peoples experiences of selling with ABE? I now sell all my books on eBay. 80% sell. 60% of these for, in my view bargain prices, 30% for an okay amount and the final 10% beat ..." Read review
