I'm now the proud owner of a new Acer, and it is quite an upgrade on the old one.

Look and Feel
Acer have come on a long way since my first laptop, it is slim, elegant and light.
Memory and Capacity
There are 512 Megabytes of RAM - DDR2 dual channel. Good for most applications.
Capacity of the Hard disk is 60 gigabytes, divided into 2 partitions, one for system files and one for data and backups.
Robustness and durability
Well I've had it a week, written several articles on it, surfed the net and everything works OK ...

Advantages: cheap, good quality laptop with decent features, upgradable. Disadvantages: no bluetooth. memory will need upgrading if moving on to Windows Vista
...lower spec is beyond me. Acer have come a long way in providing great quality laptops at a lower price.
on first run you follow the setup options and then it recommends you create a restore disc i did this using 2 blank dvd's with ease just following the on screen instructions. once this was complete i did the windows updates to get it fully upto date. A laptop I picked up for university and is a good little performer. I picked mine up in a sale with Windows XP and 512MB of RAM. This laptop comes with 3 USB 2.0 ports, LAN connection, PCMCIA port and VGA socket to connect a monitor too. They're all located in sensible places, unlike some laptops I've seen. The equipped AMD performs well and the battery life is good.
Mine comes with a 120GB hard drive, divided between two partitions, which is useful ... ...smoothly by not cluttering it with files. No issues with it but can easily get quite hot.
Also, plenty of features like WLAN, LAN, dual layer DVD writer (which also supports DVD RAM), built in webcam, built in microphone and memory card reader. The built in WLAN seems to cover a good range and is better than my desktop in terms of distance covered. Advantages: Light, fast and easy to use. Disadvantages: none that I have come across.
I have just purchased this Acer for my daughter to take to college - and in fact have kept it for myself ! It is light and easily portable as so important when having to transport regularly but also robust enough that I dont have to be nervous with it. Advantages: Potential to be very fast, great camera on it, Big HD, Nice keyboard feel, Vista capable, Good GPU Disadvantages: Formatted in Fat32 so slow, a tiny bit too flimsy, plasticy.
When this arrived, I was all hiped up and was ready for astonishing speeds as the specs are very good. But to my disbelief the formatted the hard disk with 2 wierd partitions both with Fat32 which is very slow with large (100gb) HD's. It was sooooo slow.
I had to reformat it and reinstall. I was very angry indeed.
Apart from that it runs so increadibly fast, is perfect for the medium gamer and looks great. It's camera is a cool feature and the ... ...all you laptop needs.
It has built in wireless and is very responsive and has a card reader and a few usb ports for good measure though the case is a bit flmsy the weight is very little, the noise is low, sound is good, screen is brilliant, keys feel great and it's thin.
But as I said be careful because they put media centre on in a very strange way. (my friend also got one of these for christmas and had the same problem. ...

...my Brass back The Acer is far better a nice bright screen loads of memory & ram on down side internal mike is very poor but it has a nice keyboard It is nice to handle not to heavy its pretty slick looking in fact almost as good as dolly bird But i am sure this lap top performs much better than any dolly bird I did a lot of research before I bought and although as it turned out the Acer was second choice it turned out in the end to be the best choice ...
