INTRO
I purchased the Acer Aspire 5520G laptop from Tesco Direct for the cost of £499, about 3 months ago. I purchased the laptop as my third laptop after two very unsuccessful Gateway Laptops earlier in 2007. These two laptops were both around £100 cheaper and as it was nearly a year ago neither of them was as high a spec as this one, which is currently around the highest spec laptop I have seen under £700, even though it cost much less than that!
... ...and although it is an Acer Aspire 5520, it is the Acer Aspire 5520G version which has some slightly different features such as a slightly faster processor and a bigger hard drive than the standard 5520.
OPERATING SYSTEM
The Acer Aspire 5520G runs Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium as an operating system, which is a very good operating system indeed. Everything is very easy to do, easy to navigate around and in general the operating system is ...

Advantages: Very good value for money and an excellent home laptop Disadvantages: Quite heavy, poor battery life and acer website and services unhelpful
Very good laptop for home use, however not very portable at all. I have it set up more like a desktop computer, connected to a seperate monitor. This makes it very fast, very user friendly, and of course with it being a laptop, you still have that ability to take it to work with you. It's a great little machine and it has some very good points. The screen is excellent, with good colour depth and the keyboard is a pleasure to type with. Touch pad ... ...settings so it disables whilst you are typing. The processor is quick and just what you would expect on a budget laptop. Hard drive is big and fast, RAM copes with Windows vista sufficiently and works superbly with XP. If you can track down a bigger battery this laptop is almost Perfect. Overall 8.5/10 because it is cheap, fast with lots of memory and a great media or home laptop. ...

Advantages: Upgradeable. Unbeatable Value. Disadvantages: Acer UK support is not very good. A little bit heavy and large.
I bought this Laptop July 2007 from Taipei, Taiwan home of Acer. This laptop was then eventually released in Europe 1 year later!! Anyway this is a great laptop if your technically inclined. Originally I bought this laptop with a Nvidia 8400M G graphics card which was practially useless for playing modern games. However, since this laptop uses a MXM grahics card slot, I have been able to upgrade to an Nvidia 8600M GS which is about 2-3 times faster ... ...medium settings. I since sold the 8400M G graphics card for more than the 8600M GS!
Above all the speed, graphics, storage and memory are far better than similarly priced laptops in Europe. The laptop is a bit heavy and a tad thick. If you buy this laptop from Asia as I did, you may only pay 75% of the cost in Europe. Therefore this is a real Bargain especially as it comes with all the extras:- Bluetooth, Wi-Fi & DVD-RW/CD-RW, Firewire, DVI, VGA, ...
