Advantages Advantages Speed, Looks, Excellent Screen

Disadvantages Disadvantages Mouse buttons awkward to use, no firewire

Speed The first thing I noticed when I first used this laptop is the speed of it. This the fastest computer I have used in my whole life. It is so fast because it has 4gb of ram and a 2 GHz processor. It can run older games on medium to high settings, but you have to lower the settings for newer games, still, no biggie. Look and Feel This laptop has a very nice glossy blue lid, probably one of the only laptops out there apart from some dells and some sony vaios that isn't a boring shade of black or grey. I should point out that the lid does pick up fingerprints quite easily, I wipe it with a ... more

Advantages Advantages high ram, high hard drive, good camera, amazing processor, good battery life

Disadvantages Disadvantages bluetooth button does not work as no bluetooth is installed.

I was given this laptop as a present on my birthday and fell in love with it from the first day. Firstly the 15.6 inch wide screen really makes watching videos and playing games much better and more entertaining. I really enjoy using this laptop because of the shape of the screen and the resolution it gives. Next the AMD athlon 2.0 GHz processor is extremely fast, the laptop will turn on fully from a complete shut down in a matter of seconds which is very useful when you are in a rush to read your emails or check something out. The 250gb HDD is a high capacity and is enough for everything i ... more

Advantages Advantages Good spec for the price

Disadvantages Disadvantages battery life bit on the short side

Took me a while to finally settling on a laptop. Was looking at laptops that cost more than this laptop and they didn't have what this laptop has to offer. Came with windows 7 and find that the two work well together. Speed and memory are ample for a normal laptop and are capable of handling some of the more less powerful games in the market (works well with command and conquer generals on high spec). I will test it on more powerful games but I believe it should do ok. Wouldn't buy it though if gaming is the main use is for gaming. Really only thing to bring up is portability. This wasn't a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Light

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow, no bluetooth, no firewaire, no express card port.

Mine is with windows 7, 4GB RAM. It is very very slow to start or load anything which is really annoying. It takes minutes to start from switching on. Grrrrrr!! There is no bluetooth although it has a button for it., essential in this day and age for connecting to mobile phones or bluetooth printers. There is no firewire or express card port so you cannot link camcorder to it, although it does take other cards. It is light and very portable but feels a little flimsy as a result. In my opinion a bad buy. Get another make. You can get ones with better specification for the same price. Seriously ... more

Advantages Advantages simple to use, fast, lots of features

Disadvantages Disadvantages not full access to all games, not a huge amount of memory

I think that acer has really impressed me this time. This full sized laptop is perfect for my needs and life style. It is lightweight, compact, and very speedy. It loads fast and shuts down quickly. Has a very good amount of memory, the only issue i had was not being able to have sims on my laptop due to not enough ram, but other then that it allows me to do basicly everything. When i purchased this laptop i did not buy any extra add-on's or speed ups, and everything works perfectly for me. It came with a bunch of demo games even though their use is not unlimited, they were still fun to ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Graphics, Fast, Adaptive, Smooth, Brilliant.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Keyboard layout..Not a biggy (you get used to it)

I recieved this laptop today after buying it refurbished for 389.99. The spec is very good and the laptop itself is excellent for the price, Windows 7 runs beautifully, very fast around the menus and the graphics are brilliant!. Very fast for internet browsing and good for gaming also, for basic things (MSN, Facebook, Games)..In my opinion it is probably the best laptop, with the best spec in the price bracket, Great Speakers, good userbility and adaptivity. Bad things are that the 'caps lock' key is too small, takes some getting used to, the 'a' key feels in the wrong place and you always tap ... more

Advantages Advantages Great graphics, fast for browsing the net

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery life is useless

Good laptop all in all , fantastic graphics though and extra fast for browsing, but, the battery life is hopeless, 1 to 1 and a half hours use after 24 hours of charging. Very disappointed that we won't be able to use it on long journeys. Also no manual, which is ok for people who know computers well and how to set them up. So we struggled a little on the main set up. It's the first time ever we have had a product that hasn't come with an operating manual or a set up manual. Very disappointed. Would I advise anyone to buy this product, probably not if they intend using it for taking on ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast Processor speed, Large Memory 640GB, Good sound and picture quality.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could be more portable, also the touch pad can be temperamental at times.

In my opinion the Acer Aspire 5542 is excellent value for money, The screen is sharp, the sound quality is excellent for laptop top speakers and i personally have had no technical problems at all with this model. With 640GB of internal hard drive space it also allows for the storage of a vast number of files and with its 4GB of RAM it is performs task very quickly. I think therefore that this is one of the best value laptops on the market today and is excellent for both portable and home use. The Aspire range from Acer are in my opinion some of the best value notebooks on the market at the ... more
