4 Stars A great laptop for the price Review with images 02/12/2011

Advantages Advantages Fast, lots of RAM, slim and lightweight

Disadvantages Disadvantages The keyboard could be improved

My old laptop had many problems (if you've read my Advent 7086 review you'll understand just how bad it was!) and so I decided I really needed a new laptop. There were, annoyingly, a few different Advent laptops that met the spec, but I certainly wasn't about to chance buying another one of them. So my search began and that is when I found this ... more

Advantages Advantages Good design and very good memory and RAM

Disadvantages Disadvantages The lid does not close well enough

My record with laptops is not that great as I tend to mess them up with silly problems and at Christmas last year I got a new laptop from the sales on Amazon. I had not really had a great connection with Acer products in the past but I took the chance on this laptop and was left very satisfied with the overall performance and the look it provided. This to me is one of the first ... more

Advantages Advantages Power and speed of the laptop, quality of the screen and its capabilities

    Disadvantages Disadvantages battery life

The Acer Aspire 5742 laptop has an extremely fast Intel Core i3-370M processor, with amazing graphics (Intel HD graphics with a 15.6" HD LED LCD) and soo much memory (a total of 320 GB HDD and 4GB DDR3). With an average battery life (6-cell Li-ion battery lasting about 3 hours, maybe longer) you can't go far without a charger, but the screen quality and running power make up for it. This laptop also comes with a built in disk drive (DVD-Super Multi DL drive) so running programs, burning and reading on/off of disks is no problem.
