Advantages Advantages Good price well designed and user freindly

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I have found

I have visited Ciao several times before for sourcing information as I have found the reviews on products very useful from a user rather than a sales pitch point of view. Having said that I have never took the time to delve any further into the site. Having bought my new PC, I thought I would have a look to see if anyone else had the same experience as me. To my amazement, no one had actually written a review on this model. Consequently I have decided to take the plunge, sign up and hopefully give something back to the Ciao site by giving my views. I realise this first bit is a bit off track ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent processor

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Has Vista installed

When my old computer started being really slow I decided it was time for a new one. I wanted a good specification at a good price and found this. The only thing that really lets this computer down is the fact it is running with Windows Vista. The spec of the computer is enough to run Vista well, but it’s the software itself that has caused my computer on occasion to crash. However, I have managed to store a lot of media files on here and run Photoshop, 3D Studio Max and After Effects which are all massive programs. I bought the unit which came with a keyboard and mouse, but (unlike the images ... more

This computer is really fast. There's no noise from the exhaust fan. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium very well. It's great for the price.

Great PC for the money! There have been a couple of minor software 'glitches' like hiding my notifications, but nothing major & all working well. The RAM doesn't go a long way but have 'upped' it using HD and have ordered another Gig. We'll see. Would happily recommend.

Advantages Advantages It is quite cheap for a base unit of this quality. Got lots of great features.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite a noisy hard drive.

When i was thinking of changing my base unit i looked at a lot of different models. But because i only had a limited amount of money to spend i didn't have a great deal of choice of the quality. That is until i came accross this machine. From what i had seen from other systems this was a bargain and had a lot of great features. This came with a very large amount of memory like the 512mb and 80gb of ram. The processor was very fast and even though the graphics card isn't the best in the world it does a good job with some of the games i play on. The system came with Norton Antivirus software but ... more

4 Stars Quick review of Acer Aspire T180 - Sempron 3200 by lmcradu 18/01/2008
Excellent value for the price. As far as upgrades, I replaced the RAM with 2 gigs of OCZ PC2-6400 800MHz, that gave a big performance improvement! The CPU socket is AM2 so I then tried to replace the CPU with a dual core. I installed the Athlon 4400 . The machine boots up fine but locks-up after 5 to 10 minutes. I tried reinstalling the OS (on a spare hard drive and got the same result. I wish there was some documentation or help on the Acer web site stating the capabilities/limitation for thos that want to upgrade this machine.

Brilliant piece of kit and very cheap for all the stuff you get with it. Would just like to know if I can upgrade the CPU to dual core and if so, what socket am I looking for as I believe its AM2? And to be quite honest, Acer UK are not very helpful with their after sales service, even after phoning them about 4 times and emailing them about 6 times and only getting one reply, which told me absolutely zilch! Cheers!

Don't ever waste the opportunity to work with AMD64X2 3800+. just follow this simple instruction in how to make this product become a great monster. don't use the onboard Nvidia6100, change with Nvdia 6800GT Pcie, increase the memory with Corsair 3 x 1GB DDR II XMS, give more space to ur data with 400GB but let the 160GB as ur system and ur reserve space. to complete the sound projects simply add creative SB.Audigy (value or platinum) it doesn't seems so much differences between value or platinum device. Now the product may cost around $650. but u can beat all products ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast, quality for money

Disadvantages Disadvantages needs better graphic card

very fast pc very good built in graphics and quiet given it 4 stars no proper technical support from acer on this machine i build pcs so to buy a complete unit for this price is very good but you probably want to put in a new graphics card but doing this made the pc alot noiser so i suggest when buying a graphics card get one with silent cooling system, The card even outran the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB in multiple cases, despite having half the memory. If you absolutely must stick to a budget, and can't afford to splurge a little on a 640MB GTS board, the e-GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked 320MB ... more
