Advantages Advantages Cheap premiums, good for younger drivers, UK call centre

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Awful customer care!

My husband has a less than pristene driving career, 2 crashes exactly a year apart ruined any hope he had of gaining a half decent insurance premium last year. Luckil he has no driving convictions then when it came to renewal time in April 2005. After using one of the broker sites, husband came across Admiral's premium, considerably less than the nearest competitor of Budget Insurance. Admiral were quoting a figure of £430 per year for a fully comprehensive policy, covering husband and me in a Vauxhall Corsa Club ( 3dr1.0 12v, 51 Plate) for 10 months on one of their no claims bonus excelarator ... more

Having used Admiral now for a couple of years in order to insure my car, I would just like to write a bit of a review on them - not that I have ever had to contact them at all in any way for any real purposes, but I thought it would be nice to just share my own experiences of them for any of you lovely people out there who are currently looking to renew your car insurance. I have just renewed with them again for the second year on the trot, last year being when I first went with them (and no now this is the start of my second year with them if you get me). Having had some issues with my ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast, friendly service - great quotes for under-25s.

Disadvantages Disadvantages They probably aren't competitive for older drivers with a good N.C.B

At the age of 21, I bought a Ford Escort Ghia (1994) 1.6 16v. With no No-Claims Bonus, the cheapest insurance quote I got was £1000, Fully Comprehensive. Yes, you did read that correctly. My occupation isn't dodgy and I have a clean license as well. Anyway, my poor car got stolen and my premium rocketed by another £400 with the same insurers (Lloyd's of London, incidentally - please avoid if you value your cash!). After telling them where they could stick their insurance, I phoned around most of the big insurers (Cornhill, Norwich Union, PremiumSearch, even KwikFit!!) I finally called Admiral ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheaper than other companies, sometimes!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Renewal premium doesn't match online quote, slow unreliable customer service

If you have a policy with Admiral for your car insurance you may find this helpful. In fact whatever insurance company you are with, this MAY also apply. I am going to tell you about my dad's experience with Admiral. He took out a policy with them last year and it cost him around £350 which was quite reasonable. About three weeks ago he received a letter from them thanking him for renewing his policy and informing him that the amount of £410 was going to be debited from his credit card over the next couple of days. The letter referred to a renewal pack that they apparently sent him a couple of ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks like a good premium deal

Disadvantages Disadvantages just read the report!

Admiral may look good when you're paying your premium, but the real test of a good motor insurer comes when making a claim - this is what happened to us. I'd like to register a big black mark for non-communication between departments, poor customer service, and some blatant porky-telling. I was recently involved in an accident where my car was damaged, but is still repairable. I was towed into the local main agents for Citroen who usually service the car. Citroen said that it was repairable, but could be quite expensive since a pipe to the radiator and the hydraulic system were damaged ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheaper than some

Disadvantages Disadvantages more trouble than most

I've been with Admiral for about eight years now. They've always been cheap (ish) and their customer service has been acceptable if not the most praise-worthy. However, an incident occurred when renewing my policy this year that made me see them in a whole new light. I had been running a Land Rover Defender with a separate insurer for a couple of years (one of the specialist 4x4 insurers) but decided to give Admiral a chance this year. I have two other cars, both insured with Admiral, and a third car adding to the policy should have increased my 'mutiple car' discount with them, so it made ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, but comprehensive cover

Disadvantages Disadvantages None that I can see

I have always insured my car with Admiral, and have found them to be excellent. Being 19 when I bought my car, and having had one accident already, I expected that my premium would be huge, but Admiral were by far the most competitive, quoting me pretty much half what all the other companies in the 'phone book were quoting (400 quid fully comp). Being young and impatient, I was looking to pick up my new car a couple of days after I put the deposit down, and needed to tax it before I did so. This meant that I needed my insurance certificate ASAP, and Admiral delivered it as quickly as they ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap Cover, Friendly Service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Minimum Excess High

My husband and I have both been with Admiral for a couple of years now and started like a lot of people on their 'bonus accelerator' plan. Basically this means that you get one years no claims bonus after only 10 months but obviously your premium then becomes due for renewal 2 months earlier than anywhere else. Admiral offer very good premiums and are a friendly company to deal with. If you need to call them about anything you have to dial an 0870 number but once you get through they are very courteous. I recently needed a copy of my motor insurance certificate, first one was filed in a very ... more

Advantages Advantages good rates, great customer service, quickly dealt with claim

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none yet

We have had our car insurance with several different companies over the years - some big, some small.. But two years ago we switched to Admiral after getting a surprisingly good quote. We never have big, flash cars or even particularly new ones because of the mileage we do for the business (45,000 last year!), so it always annoys me when you have to pay a huge Insurance bill to cover a cheap car. Anyway, the girl on the from Admiral was very helpful, quick and polite and the quote we got was excellent. I was amazed at how much we saved from our previous company and they were only one of the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages but don't you just pay for it if you ever try to claim. Dishonest Claims Team staff

They might be cheap, but beware if you ever have to make a claim - that's when you realise why the policy was cheap! After a no-fault accident when our car was written off, Admiral offered much less than the car was worth. We provided evidence of the value from the garage where we hadfd bought it a year earlier, several adverts from Ford dealers for virtually identical cars (allowing for a likely discount from the screen price) and refused to accept theGlass's Guide valuation. The policy defines the Market Value as the cost of replacement from the place where you normally buy cars (in our case ... more
