    Advantages Advantages Polite Staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Prices may not be the best

I've been with Admiral Group for about 6 years now and even though they may not always have the best price each year, they certainly do have the best customer service in most of the departments. The Renewals and Customer Service departments are great.....I have not (luckily) had to speak to thier Claims department, so I can't say. They have the renewals out of Canada and I must say, they are wonderful people to speak to. Very polite and knowledgable. Everything was quick and easy. There is a 4 hour time difference so even when you call at night, they are still cheerful as they are still in the ... more

I never accept the quote off my current insurers as being the best for the coming year. I do however dread having to give my details to other companies as I know that I will have a pile of mail and emails ordered for me this time next year. I do try and limit the number of insurers I get quotes from and enquire with the ones I've either had good experience with or that always told are very competitive. Let me fill you in on what I was looking for: comprehensive insurance; 3 drivers in total all with 10+ years experience & 10 years NCD & protected; A6 Sport Avant; 12000 miles pa; £150 excess I ... more

    Advantages Advantages None.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many to list... the main one was mentioned in the opinion and speaks for itself.

I went with Admiral with the misdirected notion they were a decent company. So wrong was I! I was stupid enough to stay with them the two and a bit years I was with them. And each time they raised the premium. To top it all up, when I did comply with the motoring law, they decided to punish me. Despite not making a claim or filing a potential claim, they removed two years immediately, and on renewal they refused to award another year, leaving me with just one year NCB. The reason for reporting to them in the first place, was because a cyclist decided to ride through a red light straight again ... more

Advantages Advantages Great Customer service when things go wrong, people make errors all the time it's how you fix them

Disadvantages Disadvantages Renewal prices are more expensive and have to be checked with others before you get the best deal.

I've been with Admiral for two years now, and rarely speak to my insurance company unless I'm due for renewal. I found them via the price comparison websites and the entire set up process was hassle free. This year I bumped into another driver, completely my fault and really silly of me. Admiral handled the entire thing no problem and as I didn't have to make a claim on my car I had no excess to pay which was good. Cut to last month and I had a bit of a problem. I knew my policy was due in September but hadn't received a renewal quote so assumed it must be the end of Sept. Turns out that the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Dishonest

I bought car insurance from Admiral because it was the cheapest around. However, be very careful buying from them because they are pretty unscruplous. I bought a 9 month policy which was very cheap. After 9 months, I went to renew and the premium had gone up despite then having a no claims bonus. When I went to shop around, no-one else would give a NCB because the 9 month policy has not been valid for a year. Admiral had effectively tied me into them & then jacked the price up!!! I changed company anyway because I had enough of Admiral! ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap insurance, friendly helpful service, professional written and laid out insurance policy.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None as yet.

After my years free insurance running out on my Ford Ka, I did the usual hunting around for cheap car insurance for my year old car. Being 18 at the time I was expecting my car insurance to be high, but when I got the highest quote of approximately £1900 from Ford Insure, and then less than half of that for my insurance through Admiral, how could I refuse the deal? I've found the service very helpful, the details and policy layout very professional and easy to read and understand, and I have had no problems with them whatsoever. The sales and service staff have been very helpful and co ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not cheerful, inefficient

A subsidiary of Admiral is a company called Bell Direct. They insured me in respect of my car until recently. Unfortunately, the company proved wholly incapable of getting anything right - they got confused as to the length of my policy (giving me a 9 month instead of 12 month duration), they completely messed up my address, they lost my certificate of insurance when I eventually cancelled and they took ages to send a refund of premium to me following the policy's cancellation. All in all not very satisfactory. It would nice if an apology would have been forthcoming but that was elusive as ... more

Advantages Advantages Good if you have money to throw away

    Disadvantages Disadvantages unhelpful, expensive, slow

I would not rate admiral as an insurer. I was with admiral for about 8 years. The first quote i had off them was fantastic. I had a new car and they were charging me £230 for a years fully comp insurance. I had no problems the first year. I got my renewal through for the next year and it had gone up slightly even though I had not had a claim. I rang customer services to check. They said the quote was right did I want to renew. They explained that even though I had not claimed there had been a lot of claims that year so this pushed up the price of the insurance. I checked a few others which ... more

    Advantages Advantages few

Disadvantages Disadvantages plenty if you are not a good driver

These insurance companies that do business direct. What is your opinion? I find that it is possible to get a reasonable deal when you first approach them (new business-good quote!) but when it comes to renewals the premiums seem to escalate year after year. At first you might think it is inflation but experience tells you this is not quite the case. Then you wonder about heavy claims and whether they follow poor underwriting and guess who pays the price? personally I yhink they just try ro recoup enciuraging first low premium quotes on the basis that you will not bother to make the effort and ... more

Advantages Advantages Price and possibly a household name

Disadvantages Disadvantages Unfair Terms & Conditions

The Admiral Group comprise Bell Direct, Hastings, Admiral, Elephant.co.uk and Diamond amongst their better known names. I was insured with Admiral in 2001 for my MINI Cooper and admit that I didn't bother to read the Terms and Conditions. Admiral have a clause called the "Standard Parts Replacement Clause" which is used by all their variant named companies. OK so what does this mean? Let's take my MINI as an example. The base price of a MINI Cooper is £11,300. With various options it pushed the price to over £15,000. Admiral would charge an additional premium for the larger wheels and other ... more
