    Advantages Advantages Lively, solidly researched and an excellent historical read

    There are several ways of writing history, from the most academic, not to say dry, to the most popular. Andrew Marr manages to tell the story of an era very readably, combining a conversational style with a prodigious amount of research. A.N. Wilson's approach, while perhaps a little formal, is very similar. This is the second volume in a trilogy, the first being 'The Victorians', and the third, 'Our Times'. They can be read as part of a sequence (as I am doing), or in any order. If you're looking for a neatly organised history of Britain from 1901 to 1953, this isn't it. But if you want an ... more
