The SnapScan 1212P is a color flatbed scanner for the PC from Agfa. This one-pass scanner is a good choice for school, home office and small business use. Scan text pages, artwork...
more...or other documents up to 8.5x11.7 inches in size, and capture images in 36-bit color and in monochrome. The SnapScan 1212P supports 600 dpi resolution, 9600 dpi interpolated. This desktop scanner features a true enhanced parallel port (EPP) connection. It uses an internal SCSI command protocol and proprietary EPP chip to convert parallel signals into SCSI. This makes the scanner deliver faster data transfer for faster scans, and makes it easy to install and use. Agfa includes a software selection for image editing and OCR plus scanner tools and utilities. Agfa FotoSnap and FotoLook photo editing software, plus iPhoto Express determine professional-level settings for successful photo scans. Caere OmniPage LE OCR software reads text documents, magazines or books and converts text to save hours of retyping. Visioneer PaperPort software turns the SnapScan 1212P into a document management system for scanning, editing, filing, faxing and copying. Your modem becomes a fax machine and your printer is converted to a copy machine.

Highest Quality
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by cjkace

Advantages: Affordable, fast scans, good quality, crisp colours, easy installation, choice of drivers
Disadvantages: Advanced driver can be overwhelming, parallel port connection

...own rewards. Summing up, the AGFA Snapscan 1212P offers top-quality in this price range and as far as I am aware the only difference between the 1212P and the 1212U is the connection. Also don't be fooled by scanners offering incredible resolutions and colours as even for the most intensive uses 600dpi at 24bit is perfectly acceptable. ... Read review

Agfa Snapscan, I Highly Recommend It
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by PeterFarrell

Advantages: Cheap, parallel port, fast and friendly service, good software included.
Disadvantages: Erm, haven't found any yet, except the OCR (text editing) software was hard to setup properly.

The Agfa Snapscan 1212p is my first scanner and what an excellent choice I made! The p stands for parallel port, such as your printer port. For those of us who are not lucky enough to have USB connections as our computers are not exactly upto date enough for this sort of technology finding a cheap parallel port scanner has become increasingly difficult. As far as I can tell Argos now do not do a parallel port scanner and Office World has expensive ... Read review

Scanning for Dummies
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by Bryn_Pearson

Advantages: so easy to use
Disadvantages: my first one was broken on arrival

...would give good results. The AGFA scanner was recommended to me - it isn't too expensive (about thrity pounds, depending on whom you buy it from) it is easy to use, and it plugs in in such a way that you can run your printer at the same time. Now, I've not had a scanner before, so I knew nothing about the possibility of having to unplug and plug it in, and do the same with the printer - I gather this is not unusual. For a person of little technical ... Read review

Useful scanner for undemanding jobs
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by ericstannard

Advantages: Cheap, adequate for email/web sites, maybe other applictaions as well
Disadvantages: No driver available for Win2000

The 1212p (the 'p' stands for parallel port version) is getting quite and old piece of kit now and can therefore be picked up relatively cheaply ( try www.morgancomputers.co.uk for instance). But a bargain is only a bargain if it performs the tasks you require. I purchased this scanner almost a year ago and have been using it to scan photos and articles to send via email and place on the web - this does not require a very high resolution and accurate ... Scanning for dummies
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by Manunited

Advantages: Good price and good functionality
Disadvantages: The scanner must be on when you boot up your computer if you've got Windows 95

All in all a very good scanner and a load of good sofware to go with it. Now when people say this scanner isn't fast, what are they comparing it to because it goes at a nice standard speed. Of course the speed at which a scanner scans something depends generally on two things: what you are scanning and at what resolution you are scanning it. If you don't understand the concept of picture resolution I'll quickly explain it now. The scanner ... Read review

It's a snappy one at a good price
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by mumagain

Advantages: Easy to use, easy to install and very good quality scanned pictures
Disadvantages: Needs to be switched on before you boot up your computer or it may not function as it should

...Jungle.com and came across the Agfa snapscan 1212p flat bed scanner for the price of £81 and decided to get that one as it sounded good and had quite a bundle of software included in the price, such as page keeper, print house, a few others and ofcourse their installation software for the scanner (Scanwise). I am not sure if it still comes with the same software as it was almost a year ago that we got ours, so it may pay to check around if you are ... Read review

slow scanner here
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by YSTALYFERA

Advantages: good quality scans
Disadvantages: slow

This scanner took about 15 min to scan an 8.5"x11" color image. It averaged about 2 min to scan a 2x3" descreened, color image, at 150 dpi. FOREVER! However with the magazine setting(descreen) off it scanned much, much faster. But still slow compared to my Epson. The USB version may be better in speed though. The quality of the image was excellent, but not if I have to wait that long. Images were sharp and color reproduction was good. Software ... Read review

AGFA SnapScan 1212p
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by Andrew.Self

Advantages: Cheap, scans come out pretty well too
Disadvantages: Not compatible with Windows 2000

I've had the AGFA SnapScan 1212p for a few years now. I would agree that it's not exactly a slimline scanner, but then again, compare it with other scanners that are a few years old and it's nothing out of the ordinary. It's very easy to install in Windows 95 and Windows 98. Upgrading from Windows 98 to ME didn't make a difference, it quite happily continued working without needing to be installed again. I tend to use the TWAIN import feature ... Read review

Not the fatest, but quality
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by the_king

Advantages: great high quality scans
Disadvantages: parallel port connection and average speed.

When my old scanner broke, I went out looking for a reasonably priced scanner that delivers good quality scans. The scanner requires a parallel port, so that you plug it into the port that your printer would normally be plugged into. But don't worry you can still use your printer, the scanner has two ports in the back of it, one to the PC and then one to your printer. It is also easy to install and it has a very clear instruction book that explains ... Read review

It's Scantastic!!!!
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by richardb

Advantages: Easy to use.
Disadvantages: Doesn't recognise the scanner sometimes.

I bought a scanner last week from Dixon's and I've been having lots of fun with it ever since, and am now planning to use it to build a web site.I've already used it to scan some photos onto a web page for my friends in Australia. It was very easy to do. It comes with all the software you need, and the scanwise programme is very easy to use. It's a simple step-by-step programme which my Granny could use.Make sure you set the scan to the Small File-low ... Easy to use flatbed scanner
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by AlexDP

Advantages: Simple to use.
Disadvantages: Have to turn it on befor computer.

I have had the AGFA Snapscan 1212p flatbed scanner for two years now. It was new when I got it. The p (in 1212p) stands for parralle, as it connect to that port on your computer, not use UBS port. This makes it slightly slower when sending signals from your Pc to scanner. The scanner comes with two good programs for scanning, Agfa Foto Look and Agfa Foto Snap. They are both very easy to use, Foto Snap being aimed at the beginer. The scanner ... Read review
