You can save a serious amount of money by shopping at Aldi.

AdvantagesCheap and good quality.

DisadvantagesLimited range. No deli counter. No multi-buy deals or loyalty scheme.

"...the way forward. We decided Aldi would be the supermarket of choice because it is the closest to us. ==Is it cheaper?== We switched from Sainsbury's to Aldi a few months ago. Whilst most items seemed to be cheaper, it was hard to tell whether or not we were saving a significant amount of money. My other half and I have always played the guess the total game as our groceries are going through the checkout. We used to be quite good at this when we ..." Read review

Do you remember when beans were 3p?

AdvantagesWell laid out stores, high quality for low prices.

DisadvantagesElectrical goods can be an unknown quantity, not enough checkout staff.

"Shopping in Aldi is a much more pleasurable experience than it used to be. When the stores first opened in 1990 I remember them being sawdust-filled, warehouses full of strange continental foodstuffs. However, I also remember them being a major part of the "bean war" on which tins of beans dropped to 3p! Aldi stores have come a long way since then and no longer have the "shame value" attached to them during my childhood. No longer do children make ..." Read review

Booze Cruise to Aldi! Review with images

AdvantagesExcellent value for money, everything in same place

Disadvantagescan't do a whole shop there yet

"Aldi is a German supermarket. Every branch in the World are to the exacting same size, spec and layout. They stock non branded food and goods and they can knock the spots off even M&S for quality and flavour. I'M NOT GOING THERE! ---------------------------------------- The shops were basic, like the old days of Kwik Save when you had boxes stacked up and the staff had to memorise everything in the store as there were no prices attached/on the ..." Aldi ~ Good quality, cheap food ~ why pay more than you have to?

AdvantagesExcellent value for money items

DisadvantagesStill some things you cannot get

"Aldi ~ In this present financial climate, when money is a little tight for a lot of people, I decided that it was time for me to tighten my belt too, when it comes to the weekly shop. I always get my branded items from Asda or Tesco as there are some things, like particular brands of coffee for example, that I will not compromise on and will not buy the shops own. However for general things like my fruit and vegetables for example I would ..." Read review

You can't really go wrong with Aldi!

AdvantagesCheap, good quality, plenty of choice though not in frozen goods

DisadvantagesPrices are not so good on meat and frozen goods, no fresh fish

"...not very far away from Aldi so I have popped in a few times! The Store: My local store is in Bell Green in Coventry. It has a large, free car parking area, trolleys outside which take a pound coin or one of them things alot of us now have on our keyrings. There are large automatic opening doors enabling us to not have to fight to get in and of course allows wheelchair and pushchair access. The store is laid out reasonably well with quite large ..." ALDI Shopping - Why didn't I do it sooner

AdvantagesCheap, Seamless, Quick

DisadvantagesLack of variety, Not many big branded items

"Shopping at ALDI has always had a level brand snobbery attached to it, for instance some people feel that their products are inferior to the market leading big branded products that you see in the big supermarket advertisements and store shelves. All of my friends think I'm a bit on the cheap side. I digress, for anyone who knows the ALDI experience and knows what I'm talking about in my opinion I think you should "give it a try". First let me start ..." Read review

Aldi - Don't be a snob!

AdvantagesExcellent value, good range of products with new offers each week

DisadvantagesMy local store could be bigger

"...country I used to think Aldi was a cheap supermarket that sold cheap and lower quality products. I am happy to say now though, for the last 10 or so years that Aldi is an excellent shop that sell good quality products at fantastic value for money. We are lucky to have one quite close by and now I always go to this store to buy the food shopping for our household. The first few times I went there, I'd fill the trolley and wince until I saw the total ..." Read review

What a Surprise

AdvantagesGood quality at reasonable prices.

Disadvantagessmaller selection.

"...that my original impression of Aldi was tained a long time ago when i visited the store that opened a few miles down the road not long after it opened. The place was chaos incarnate, with all the products out of place, pricing unclear, staff non existant and tills that took cash only. I never went back again after that experience. I bit the bullet about three weeks ago and dropped into the same Aldi for some bits and bobs as i was waiting for a ..." Read review

A cheap way to get your five-a-day

AdvantagesSuperb value especially on fruit and veg

DisadvantagesSometimes a lack of choice on goods

"...had always shied away from Aldi because in the past they wouldn't take credit cards and we normally pay by this method to get points on our card. However, to attract new custom they now take all major forms of credit cards so that's a tick in my box. The stores are springing up everywhere, yes, even in South Wales, and the mother-in-law (gawd bless her) remarked one day how cheap the fruit and veg was. A few months ago, we went in, and the secret ..." Read review

Don't expect too much and you'll get bucketloads

AdvantagesCheap, cheerful, great special offers

DisadvantagesQueues and some things can be a bit dodgy.

"...supermarket chain but I love Aldi and feel it is my duty to honour them with my prose. Trouble is that I like to amuse my self be writing things that make me laugh and I'm going to struggle big-time. I'll start by saying that Aldi is no longer a name to cause shame and is, I think, even a trendy place to shop nowadays. We are blessed in our small town to have one and everyone who is everyone seems to go there at least every so often. This has got ..." Read review

Aldi - Shopping on a budget

AdvantagesLow costs

DisadvantagesLong queues at checkouts

"...is Aldi. Originating from Germany, Aldi now have over 400 stores across the UK and almost 2000 worldwide. Aldi specialises in selling everyday items from lesser known brands and manufacturers ensuring that for this reason, the prices are considerably lower than what you would expect to pay from the mainstream supermarkets. ==Approaching the store== Despite being a budget supermarket, Aldi has the look and feel of the major high street alternatives ..." The places I go for my mother!

AdvantagesVery cheap prices and some surprises

DisadvantagesVery limited range

"...would bother to go to Aldi if it wasn't my mother's favourite shop and now I have to do a 10 mile round trip so that her cats can have the food that they prefer as my local store has closed. The journey there: Easy access from the Black Country Spine route and also on the main road from Darlaston to Wolverhampton. Parking: Easy access to the car park via a side road. Plenty of parking space with limited chil and disabled parking. Trollies: Plenty ..." Read review

If the Skoda brand, was a food brand, Aldi...

AdvantagesGerman Quality at Low Czech Prices.

DisadvantagesNot the best shopping experience, queue times, Not enough of them!

"...decided that we would use Aldi as a secondary shopping realm after our weekly shop of Waitrose. We noticed that after doing taste tests by Aldi, a market research company noted that after trying Kellogg’s Cornflakes, that the taste test group also liked Aldi’s version. There was also a large article in the Newspaper recently about how a Marks and Spencer shopper switched to Aldi- she was hugely impressed- not only with the quality of the food, but ..." Read review

.'Like Brands, Only Cheaper'.....? Get saving those pounds!!

AdvantagesSaving Pounds is the biggest adantage surely!!

DisadvantagesI cant get EVERYTHING and still have to nip to Tescos :(

"...our current address, a new Aldi store opened a mile or so up the road. Our nearest one prior was a good 20 miles away. It took alot of pursuading the fella, but eventually we ventured up there. Having been brought up in Germany, i remember the german food well and had often ventured to the local Lidl on a few occassions in the past for certain German specifics. We started off with key essentials and have slowly converted most of our shopping to there ..." Read review

A poor students dream come true.... well sort of!

Advantagescheap, close to my house

Disadvantagescan't get everything you need

"...will have heard of the Aldi supermarket chain but from my experience not that many people have actually shopped there! I tend to get the usual snobbish comments about it selling cheap rubbish and to be fair before I came to uni I felt pretty much the same. However, after a year or so at uni money started to get a bit tight. I'd maxed out the overdraft in first year partying too much and buying things I didn't need so I started having to make cut ..."
