Do you remember when beans were 3p?

Advantages: Well laid out stores, high quality for low prices.
Disadvantages: Electrical goods can be an unknown quantity, not enough checkout staff.

Shopping in Aldi is a much more pleasurable experience than it used to be. When the stores first opened in 1990 I remember them being sawdust-filled, warehouses full of strange continental foodstuffs. However, I also remember them being a major part of the "bean war" on which tins of beans dropped to 3p! Aldi stores have come a long way since then and no longer have the "shame value" attached to them during my childhood. No longer do children make ...
...Aldi has retained though, is the cheap prices. Fortunately, they have now combined this with quality produce. Aldi is now our first port of call for our monthly shop so let me take you around the aisles. Arriving at our Ormskirk branch we select a trolley depositing a pound into the slot. Aldi trolleys are huge, juggernaut like contraptions made for cramming as much in as possible. They are deep and wide with a rack on the bottom so you can fit ...

Booze Cruise to Aldi!

Advantages: Excellent value for money, everything in same place
Disadvantages: can't do a whole shop there yet

Aldi is a German supermarket. Every branch in the World are to the exacting same size, spec and layout. They stock non branded food and goods and they can knock the spots off even M&S for quality and flavour. I'M NOT GOING THERE! ---------------------------------------- The shops were basic, like the old days of Kwik Save when you had boxes stacked up and the staff had to memorise everything in the store as there were no prices attached/on the ...
...recognise you being there! ALDI U-TURN! -------------------------------------- Get that image out of you head right now! I received a nice little notice from Aldi on a visit about two years ago telling me that they are very sorry about raising the prices a little but they are improving the quality of their products and offering a guarantee that if the product is not satifactory you can return it for another or a refund. Fantastic but the proof ...

What a Surprise

Advantages: Good quality at reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: smaller selection.

...that my original impression of Aldi was tained a long time ago when i visited the store that opened a few miles down the road not long after it opened. The place was chaos incarnate, with all the products out of place, pricing unclear, staff non existant and tills that took cash only. I never went back again after that experience. I bit the bullet about three weeks ago and dropped into the same Aldi for some bits and bobs as i was waiting for a ...
...at home or waste. Aldi now take Visa & Delta debit cards at the tills which helps greatly, as i hate carrying cash around with me although they do not yet operate a 'code' chip and pin, you still have to manually sign your receipt. Overall i would have to say that Aldi have turned around what used to be a shopping nightmare and created a wonderful store full of quality goods at reasonable prices. An all round pleasent shopping experience, well ...

A cheap way to get your five-a-day

Advantages: Superb value especially on fruit and veg
Disadvantages: Sometimes a lack of choice on goods

...had always shied away from Aldi because in the past they wouldn't take credit cards and we normally pay by this method to get points on our card. However, to attract new custom they now take all major forms of credit cards so that's a tick in my box. The stores are springing up everywhere, yes, even in South Wales, and the mother-in-law (gawd bless her) remarked one day how cheap the fruit and veg was. A few months ago, we went in, and the secret ...
...fruit and veg are put out. If you leave it too long, what's left is really shoddy and not that nice. Pick the right days and you are in for a treat. The fruit and veg, apart from being of exceptional quality is also staggeringly cheap. An excuse in the past for not eating the requisite five-a-day is that such items are extortionate. I've paid over £3 for a bunch of grapes in Tesco, £2.49 for strawberries and £1.86 for a pineapple, 6 tomatoes 39p, ...

Don't expect too much and you'll get bucketloads

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful, great special offers
Disadvantages: Queues and some things can be a bit dodgy.

...supermarket chain but I love Aldi and feel it is my duty to honour them with my prose. Trouble is that I like to amuse my self be writing things that make me laugh and I'm going to struggle big-time. I'll start by saying that Aldi is no longer a name to cause shame and is, I think, even a trendy place to shop nowadays. We are blessed in our small town to have one and everyone who is everyone seems to go there at least every so often. This has got ...
...the main, good quality. Aldi has grown and grown over the years, forged on these principles, and has been in the UK for 18 years now and has over 300 stores. This growth can only happen if they have a good product based on sound business principles and they are very transparent in what they are about . It would be impossible to write about every aspect of the store so I'll focus on the bits that stand out for me. Space --------- The final frontier. ...

The places I go for my mother!

Advantages: Very cheap prices and some surprises
Disadvantages: Very limited range

...would bother to go to Aldi if it wasn't my mother's favourite shop and now I have to do a 10 mile round trip so that her cats can have the food that they prefer as my local store has closed. The journey there: Easy access from the Black Country Spine route and also on the main road from Darlaston to Wolverhampton. Parking: Easy access to the car park via a side road. Plenty of parking space with limited chil and disabled parking. Trollies: ...
...style only but big enough for most shops. They need a pound coin to release them from the line. No baskets are available. Store layout: Lots of room in the aisles. Most products are unshelved and in boxes, The order and placement of goods is generally fairly logical and not changed too often. Range: There is usually a product of the type you want, but most are own brands and there is little or no choice (I variety of baked beans( 1 variety of ...

A poor students dream come true.... well sort of!

Advantages: cheap, close to my house
Disadvantages: can't get everything you need

...will have heard of the Aldi supermarket chain but from my experience not that many people have actually shopped there! I tend to get the usual snobbish comments about it selling cheap rubbish and to be fair before I came to uni I felt pretty much the same. However, after a year or so at uni money started to get a bit tight. I'd maxed out the overdraft in first year partying too much and buying things I didn't need so I started having to make cut ...
...used to live miles from Aldi so wouldn't even consider going there because I'd pass three other supermarkets to get there! Anyway, I thought I'd give it a try one day, not expecting much from the place but I was pleasantly surprised! The Aldi store near me isn't very big compared to the other supermarkets I have shopped at. Its only got about 6 aisles and 4 checkouts but that doesn't really matter. First things first, you have to pay a pound to ...

The Bargain Room

Advantages: good deals, competitive prices
Disadvantages: not good for everything

...could see the bright white Aldi lettering. As soon as you walk in it looks just like the same idea as Lidl. Unlike most supermarkets this one is a bit more open plan, less about aisles and the more about keeping everything in the right section and it is quite easy to find everything without getting lost behind high shelving and freezers. One bad thing about this place is that you can only get trolleys no hand baskets and I don't ten to do big shops ...
...dangerous but exciting part chocolate, Aldi is an international retailer so a lot of the food is imported and different from most supermarkets. The chocolate is cheap but they do still sell brands like Kinder and although cheap it still tastes really nice and they have a good selection. Not only is there chocolate but also packaged cakes and tarts like bakewell and treacle tarts. I bought some lemon bakewells and strawberry cakes and these were ...

The Truth About Aldi....

Advantages: Cheap, free parking
Disadvantages: Queues at checkouts, special buys run out quickly

...Aldi is actually very useful for finding bargains or saving money on your shopping bill. Aldi stores are run on a budget. They only sell own brands. These are cheaply priced and good quality. There are usually only 2 or 3 members of staff in the store. This also helps keep costs down. When Thursday morning comes, everything changes. You see, every Thursday morning the new 'special buys' come into the stores. This means a queue outside the store ...
...a product at your local Aldi store, the only way you can do so is going there. (The members of staff are extremely friendly though, so don’t worry) Aldi stores do not have a telephone number for you to ring. I suppose this also helps keep costs down. It can be rather annoying though. My local Aldi store is around half an hour's drive away from where I live. It is frustrating to have to drive all the way there only to discover they do not have any ...

...taken the Mick out of Aldi in it's time. "Ooh look at that cheap shop selling all the 'no frills goods', i go to tesco and buy from their finest* range' Well not anymore as Aldi has come along way. Attention all Students....

Advantages: See Opinion.
Disadvantages: Poor quality on SOME products and genral look of the store.

I have used Aldi supermarket, not as my main supermarket but more as a corner shop food stall. I have been using Aldi stores since my first branch opened up in Radford, Coventry. Overall I have been very happy with all areas of the Aldi store apart from the quality. Food Quality. Some of Aldi's food is very nice however some is horrid. Things to avoid are; fresh food such as eggs, milk bread, butter etc. I think these are best avoided because they ...
...it. Cleanliness Generally, Aldi store is clean and tidy with very little spillages of products, which I find is a common problem in some other supermarkets such as Tesco. My local store is a reasonable size and everything has space. The decorative order of Aldi is very dark and dingy with brown tiled floors and beige walls; my local is no way airy. Staff. The staffs at Aldi Radford are quite pleasant and as it’s quite a small supermarket, ...

ALDI - A cheap way to fill up the family.

Advantages: excellent value for money, faster, more efficient
Disadvantages: lack of recognisable brands, less customer service, some products it is wiser to avoid

...to step foot inside my Aldi branch. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally did. The first thing you note about my local Aldi is that it is completely empty. At first I assumed it was down to the inferiority of the supermarket, but actually I just think it's the assumption of inferiority that puts people off. Either way, the emptiness is a definate advantage - navigating the aisles, and queuing to pay, everything goes a hundred times quicker which ...
...to when I converted to Aldi was the lack of recognizable brand names. There are a few - Mr Kipling's cakes, Haribo sweets - but most are completely unknown. On your first visit you might take some time familiarising yourself, but it's definately something one gets used to, and even though you don't recognise the brands the vast majority are at least acceptable. In fact, I prefer some of the brands in Aldi to the traditional ones - one example would ...

The Fastest Fingers you Ever Did See.

Advantages: Cheap, good quality, free parking
Disadvantages: Limited selection of products

...I have been shopping at Aldi for well over a year now and I must have taken a third off of my weekly shopping bill and had more food to show for it. The Aldi where I shop is a brand new building with a very large car park with ample free parking. One important thing to remember is not to forget your £1 for the trolley because there are no baskets in this supermarket, I suppose this is to encourage you to buy more. Although the building is new, the ...
...a lot of money. Aldi have limited products. They usually only sell one brand of each product unlike most highstreet supermarkets which sell over 100 different brands of baked beans. In most cases you probably haven't heard of the brand but they do sell some Sharwoods, Amoy and Cadburys products. You can't really do your whole weekly shopping here as there are products they do not sell and for this reason I tend to share my shopping between Safeway ...

...my shaking, wrinkly hands the Aldi receipt I got from a recent shop and you can almost see the golden glow it gives off with its fabulous offers and cheap goods. As you stand there, paralysed by curiosity, all ‘ooo-ing’ and ‘aaah-ing’ staring at the crumpled piece of parchment, I throw off my hood with a devilish laugh and lure you into your sub-conscious. Aldi good bargains shame about the queues

Advantages: plenty of room , competitive prices
Disadvantages: queues at every till , everyday for sure

...in six different branches of Aldi . I was in the Middlesbrough branch yesterday which prompted me to write this opinion on Ciao. Let's start with the downside. The company has an aversion to having two or three tills open at one go. Even at busy times on a Saturday in the Keighley branch I well recall grimacing as I saw the length of the queue in front of me. It was the same in Middlesbrough yesterday. Eight people were in front of me before they ...

Another downside to Aldi is you have to pay for your own carrier bags so unless you have re -usable ones at your disposal ,I would suggest you could lose some of what money you have saved on the 5p bags if you have a trolley full. Again I understand it is to keep costs down but i is still annoying just the same. The staff always seem friendly and cheerful enough in all the stores I've been in that is if you can find them. Also some of ...
