Do YOU need to change your supermarket...?!

Advantages: Cheap. Varied stock
Disadvantages: Quality can be hit & miss.

...I tuck into my cheap Aldi cherries, I thought I'd write a quick review... Aldi, originally a German supermarket, is really taking off in the UK. Their market share here in the UK, whilst small against the likes of Tesco & Asda, has rapidly grown in recent times. Feeling the 'credit crunch', we are turning more often to the 'discount' supermarket in search of money saving groceries & other products. The stores are small in comparison to the big ...
...an ad campaign highlighting the Aldi 'Super 6'. This refers to 6 items of fruit & veg which can be bought for a bargain 49p each. The offer changes each month, this month (for example) being cherries, pineapples, peaches, plums, kiwis & melons. Aldi actually takes a pretty big loss on these items - just to get us through the door. And once you're through the door, you'll discover there's more to Aldi than just your basic groceries/toiletries/household ...

Aldi....cheap shop being run on the cheap!!!

Advantages: Local
Disadvantages: Disgruntled Staff.....too regularly

Aldi is excellent value for its products and im always really happy to shop there. Items like their Chicken Fillets £3.99 is a great price compared to other supermarkets. In addition to this the fillets seem to contain less water and this is clear on cooking the meat. Also their range of germa sausage and spanish deli meats is fantastic. And for someone who likes DIY i would make this my first stop before going to B&Q or Focus as this is the place ...
...fantastic. I would however add that i have noticed that the staff always look a bit unhappy and seem to be overstretched. I've witness a few ocassions where the manager has give a staff memeber a dressing down in public. Come On Aldi, get some more staff and give some customer service. ...

Aldi and its stock

Advantages: cheap fruit and veg
Disadvantages: lack of big brand names

My recent shop at Aldi was not a very long shop as i dont usually use it as my main store. Aldi is nothing special and despite the rumours it was not that cheap. Its layout was fairly simple but It has almost evrything you need, apart from big brands such as coca cola etc. Apart from not having signs, its easy to navigate and has all you need for a quick shop. The car park was big and i had no problem finding a space. Once instore I found that there ...
...a problem however it could've been should I have needed to ask where to find a product. There was only 1 checkout operating which can be frustratring but the checkout employee was fast and quite pleasant for the small time she served us for. After the checkout you have to bag your items on a long shelf kind of thing. This can be looked at as a good thing and also a bad thing. After i got home the food was as i expected , not horrid but also not as ...

In the wrong category -DO NOT READ OR RATE

Advantages: Good range of continental food at competive prices
Disadvantages: Not a very wide range

...the discount supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl. I think it is more to do with their own insecurities (arising from the supposed stigma of being poor) than actual experience. When I first saw an Aldi store in the 1990s the store was basic. There were just piles and piles of products - still stacked on pallets in what appeared to be a random manner. Being used to the organized, carefully labelled aisles of Tescos and Sainsburys, I found this off ...
...I didn't return to an Aldi store until recently and was very pleasantly surprised. I think this is due partly to being more mature ( the early 1990s was the 'yuppy' phase) and partly due to the change in the presentation within the stores. A large amount of the produce is still presented on pallets - but in a much more organized manner - you can see that a certain amount of effort is being made in the presentation of the products. The products themselves ...

Aldi

Advantages: Cheap and high quality
Disadvantages: Not many store associates so there are sometimes queues

I first discovered Aldi when then built next to the Tesco shop where I used to go. When I first went in It didn't seen to be like a regular supermarket as there were no brand names on the shelves. However the products which they do sell are higher quality and much cheaper than those found at Tesco. I don't normally buy brand name products and just buying own-label my shopping at Tesco used to be over £70 a week, switching to Aldi and the products ...
...though there is a £25 difference the food is of a much better quality, one example that comes to mind is the fresh meat, their portions are bigger and less fat comes out compared to Tesco. The only problem I have found is that as they offer low prices, they have less staff which leads to queues at the tills especially at peak times; but they do have a fast scan rate. You also have to buy carrier bags (typically 1p each), but this has just encouraged ...
