I am the Alfa male. (My 100th review on Ciao)!!

Advantages: Simply an awesome car and driving experience.
Disadvantages: The running costs will put some people off owning one.

...VW Golf VR6 and several Alfa Romeo`s, with the Alfa Romeos being my favourite cars by a mile. The Alfa Romeo I am Writing about today is the 156, 2.5 V6 24 valve, I have just sold this particular car on in order to buy the newer model of Alfa Romeo but I am missing it badly. Even though the new Alfa is breathtakingly good it just does not seem to have the character and raw power of my old faithful 156. The Alfa Romeo 156 is a very stylish 4 door ...
...and had the hand stitched Alfa logo on them and looked very nice. The other stunning feature of the interior of these cars is the dash board, it is black in colour regardless of the exterior colour of the car and a black dash always looks best. The instrument dials all slope slightly towards the driver so the passenger cannot read the dials and it makes the driver feel very in touch and in total control of the vehicle and everything inside it. The ...

Advantages: The engine will seduce you
Disadvantages: The fuel consumption will kill your wallet but hey, who cares?

...problems. Now no Alfa would be an Alfa if you didn't have a few electrical problems. Mine has been no different. I have had an earth lead break between the battery and body. The earth lead goes from the battery to the body ( where is bolts onto the car ) and then continues down to the engine. Believe it or not the earth lead had broken at the connection with the body but still continued down to the engine so the engine would turn over but not start ...
...this really sums up the Alfa to me. You so love it that you start to look at things in a different way so you can justify keeping it. I know a car is meant to just get you from A to B, but come on, if it were really like that, we would all be driving the same cars. What the Alfa offers is something that makes the journey much better, it adds character, it makes the journey seem good even if you have been sitting in traffic all day and most of all, ...

...to the car a silver Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 24v, you look at the back site and the tail light stare at you, through a narrow gap and you wonder…… Those standard looking rims and tyres, hood with a little V-Shaped grill and the AFLA badge on the front of the hood, it looks like Alfa is bragging about something, and boy they can brag about this one. Personally the cars looks aren't the most attractive in the field, but that's just me, the sound of the ...
...idles smooth and calm. Inside the cockpit the black leather seats makes your heart melt as soon as you sit on them, you feel a bit cluttered in the beginning and the pedals are typical sports car, close together and very sensitive. Considering the fact that I am 6 foot 7" my opinion might differ from the rest, however the car is comfortable and easy to handle and there is no bulky feeling about the car whatsoever. Pulling the car out of the garage ...

Alfa 156 2.5 v6 24v

Advantages: Plenty of power, styling, sharp steering, great sounding engine
Disadvantages: Poor ride quality, big turning circle, hard to park because of high back

...car. And thought that the Alfa 156 would be a good buy. Its a 2.5ltr version on a 99 reg paid just over £3k for it. The stylings cool as with the interior very retro and feels like your in a tie fighter from starwars ( mines tanned momo leather on black with wood trimming ). The engine sounds amazing lots of throaty sound. Makes you feel like Darth Vadar. I now like driving in tunnels with the windows down. The steering is precise but does feel very ...
...as comfortable. I know the alfa 156 is in a couple of leagues below the 5 series. But I didn't think the ride quality would be that bad. Its just too hard. I wouldn't recommend an alfa 156 2.5ltr if you like refined luxury cars. But if you want good thrills before your 30 then yes. Also if your thinking of getting a 2.5ltr make sure you test drive it over some pot holes and small bumps and you'll know what I mean about poor ride quality. ...

Quick review of Alfa Romeo 156 2.5

The engine. The engine is a 2.5 Litre V6 and loves to rev. When it does rev, the sound it makes is so sexy, so smooth and so addictive, you just can't get enough of it. It is one of the great experiences of life and once you have heard it and driven it, you will forever be smitten. With nearly 200 bhp, it is very powerful and provides excellent flexibility all through the rev range. I have heard reports that the engine lacked low end torque but I can tell you that is simply not the case. There is a nice solid pull all through the rev range and there is serious, push you back into the seat, pull at 4000 rev and beyond, all the way up to 7000. ( who needs a Ferrari ) ...

Alfa Romeo 156 2.6 V6 99 S

Advantages: Power, engine note, Interior, build quality, looks
Disadvantages: Running costs high, difficult to do work on

Own a red Alfa 156 2.5 V6. One of the best cars I have driven in a very long time. It feels very sharp and planted all round from the suspension to the gearbox. The 6 speed manual is fantsatic Great when you want to cruise on the motorway in sixth and plenty of grunt in the lower gears. Comfortable over long journeys. I ahve had to reliabilty problems except someone keying it in a car park! When they do go wrong though they can be very expensive. ...
...to make sure if you use a regular garage they will do any work for you. A new clutch is £173 before they have even talked about fitting it! Timing belts are a must for changing now and then which is an expensive job. As long as you keep on top of a car like this with regular servicing and general maintance it should cause no problems. I had a front side light on my car fail though and to change it was an absolute nightmare and took me an hour to ...

I love the Alfa V6 I've a few (GTV6 x2, 75 )and this is the best so far. I have to use awful roads in the North of Scotland and the V6 is great for overtaking. Mine is black and in standard form except for nice Alfa alloys. I think that this is the cars best form. It has passer bys admiring it and the noise instantly tells people that it is powerful. 6 speed manual box is very easy to use. Great fun coming up behind t-spark owners and flying past ...
...paid the extra and got a real engine". Only problem I've had is the driver door hinge broke, only cost £50 to fix. The garage told me that Vectras and Golfs are prone to it as well, and much more expensive. My next service is 72000 and that is going to be very expensive, about £750. 20 000 to go so will have time to save up. I'VE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ELECTRICAL OR RELIABILITY PROBLEMS ...

Review of Alfa Romeo 156 2.5

I've had two!!

Advantages: Italian looks, Engine, Handling, Second hd value
Disadvantages: depreciaiton, dealerships

I bought my Alfa 156 in 2001. This is the second one I have, my first being, a 156 1.8 TS, which I bought new back in 1999. I have nothing but praise for this car. Despite the preconceived opinion, I have never experienced bad reliability problems on either of them. If you are looking for Germanic build quality, then buy a 3 series, (like every one else). Sure the 156 has the typical squeaks and rattles, but hey its Italian! and they only add to ...
...what sets an Alfa apart. As Jeremy Clarkson recently said “That’s not an engine that’s a heart, with ventricles and all”. The engine is a gem to listen to, especially above 5 thousand revs. Compared to the 1.8, the 2.5 is heavier, and certainly not as manoeuverable around the twisty bits. But the 2.5 has real neck snapping performance. As for the Iooks, challenge anyone to argue that this car is not one of the most beautiful ever made. (Only in sport ...
