Something tasty for your Lunch box!

Advantages: Very addictive, Takes hunger away, small to fit in your pocket
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, Very thirsty after eating them :)

I've always loved Alpen bars they were first introduced to me when I was taking My GCSE exams (so that's a couple of years ago). How? Well in my college if you are taking an exam in the morning you get free breakfast and as much as you can eat, so I noticed the bars so I just had to try one as they were for free. My first bite made my mouth watery as they tasted really good and sweet. The strawberry smelled really nice, I had four of these in a row ...
...with a picture of the Alpen which looks really fresh and ready to be eaten The individual packaging for each bar is blue and red with pictures of strawberries, wheat and a green garden. By the end of that day I had finished the whole pack (I am not too greedy lol) I just couldn't resist the taste. I noticed that after I ate about two of the bars in a row I felt really thirsty, so make sure you have a glass of drink beside you when you eat the bars ...

Healthy Cereal Bars???

Advantages: Less than 70 calories
Disadvantages: No good if you're lactose/gluten/soya intolerant

...weekend I came across these Alpen Light cereal bars on a "2 boxes for £2.50" special offer (they usually retail at around £1.80 per box) so purely for the benefit of Ciao members I popped a couple of boxes in my trolley and skipped off to the checkout. (I would normally buy Special K bars.) >>>Background<<< Alpen cereal bars are made by Weetabix, purveyors of fine cereals like Weetabix, Weetos, Ready Brek and Alpen (to name but a few). To add ...

Breakfast on the Go

Advantages: Tasty, cheap, easy to get hold of
Disadvantages: Quite small, quite high in fat

...disgusting! Until I found… Alpen Fruit and Nut bars. I’ve always liked the traditional Alpen, with icy cold milk and a sprinkle of sugar, so I was hoping that the bars wouldn’t let me down. I picked up my cereal bar from a garage, it cost me 37p, which I didn’t think was too bad, it’s slightly more than a bar of chocolate, but costs me about the same as two slices of toast at work. The bars are available in four varieties, ...
...looks exactly the same as Alpen cereal, with lots of nutty bits and raisons. The bar also contains concentrated apple juice, which is actually quite noticeable when you bite into it. The bar doesn’t crumble when you bite it, the syrup holds it together well, which is always a good thing if you’re eating it at your desk as I was, there’s nothing worse than crumbs all over your desk and computer. The taste of the bar is quite nice, ...

FAST FOOD BREAKIE

Advantages: Useful as a easy to carry snack
Disadvantages: Fairly tasteless and not very healthy

...running for your bus! Alpen is no exception. Alpen cereal bars are marketed as a portable version of the muesli based breakfast cereal and thus possessing all the properties traditionally associated with muesli; Low fat, high fibre, nutritious and generally good for you. So is this true and can this cereal bar really replace a ‘sit down’ breakfast? THE CEREAL BAR- (FRUIT AND NUT VARIETY) The bars come individually packaged shiny plastic foil lined ...
...a very small portion of Alpen meusli bound together with glucose syrup. The bar itself is fairly sturdy and will hold up to being carried in your pocket of bag without crumbling to bits. The cereal itself makes up only about 40% of the bar the rest is mainly glucose syrup and concentrated apple juice. When you bite into it the first thing you notice is how crumbly it is and I can guarantee that you will not be able to avoid crumbs flying all over ...

What's the worst that could Alpen?

Advantages: A touch of chocolate without being too bad for you
Disadvantages: Expensive bought individually

...of. I chose an Alpen bar. This is one case where sticking a well-known brand on a new product doesn't work for me, because I don't like Alpen muesli. Too dry, too bland, too flakey. But I like cereal bars on the whole, so I took a risk. After all, the foil wrapper is very attractive - sky-blue with 'Alpen' in white, a mountain, and a coloured flash showing the variety and some of the ingredients. The version I picked was Fruit and Nut with Milk ...
...It's certainly nothing like Alpen cereal, thankfully. There's a distinct roasted flavour, and you can taste the nuts and raisins in every mouthful. The chocolate is of decent quality, prevents the bar from being too dry and is a good partner to the fruit and nut. Although held together with glucose, it's not too sweet for my liking either. Helpfully the nutrition info is given per 100g, but my handy calculator tells me this works out as 125 calories ...

Something to Ciao on for Breakfast!

Advantages: Breakfast in a wrapper, for people in a hurry.
Disadvantages: Contain nuts, gluten and oats!

...wrapper with 4 boxes of Alpen Bars. That meant 24 bars, she wouldn’t eat all those in 10 days holiday, but as there was no mention of oats, which cause me a problem, they were added to the trolley as they sounded quite yummy. The wrapper was taken off next morning, revealing the 4 boxes more clearly, 2 Fruit and Nut with Milk Chocolate and 2 Strawberry with Yoghurt. On the back of the box along with some other details it says, “A moist chewy combination ...

Century Genghis Khan’s hordes carried yogurt in gourds (I hadn’t realised that rhymed!) to help fortify them as they crossed deserts. It goes on to say, they can’t promise world domination but can help battle your hunger pangs with the goodness of New Strawberry and yoghurt bars. Breakfast on the go

Advantages: Covenient , good value , tasty , nutritious , good make
Disadvantages: None for me

BACKGROUND ********************** Alpen muesli is a cereal I have enjoyed eating from time to time , for many years . Only recently did I realise it was made by a tried and tested cereal manufacturer Weetabix . Over recent years many cereal makers have begun making and selling cereal bars . These tend to be based on the actual cereal product and have a similar flavour . It is usually claimed that a cereal bar will be a good substitute for a missed ...

The hills are alive, with the sound of crunching

Advantages: Compact snacks that are fairly nutritious
Disadvantages: Tend to make a lot of crumbs and are of questionable value as a breakfast replacement

...as a mid-morning snack. Alpen have just launched their own version of the cereal bar and it has been heavily advertised throughout the London Underground network as well as on TV. Seeing the bars in Safeway and knowing that I used to quite like Alpen cereal I decided to give them a go. ...contained 6 bars (individually wrapped) and cost just under £2 (I believe) although the bars can also be bought individually. Each bar weighs in at 29g (so not huge) and looks pretty much like any other cereal bar. The base of the cereal bar is coated in chocolate (in the case of the Fruit and Nut with Chocolate variety) and with yoghurt (in the case of the Strawberry variety). There is a good mix of fruits, nuts and cereal in each bar and the flavour ...

Sticky sweet snack...

Advantages: delicious, cheap, healthy, attractive
Disadvantages: unpredictable, sugary

...***** ===Alpen=== The Alpen range is created by the infamous, fantastic Weetabix company, providing the nation with a wide variety of delicious muesli-style cereals and snacks! Their cereals include; _original_, _no added sugar_, _apricot_, _nut crunch_, and _high fruit._ I have not tried any of these myself, though after sampling the tasty 'bars, I am hoping to come across Nut Crunch! ...there are the other two Alpen lights; _citrus fruit_ and _chocolate and orange_. The Chocolate And Orange one looks especially appetising, though I imagine it may be a bit sickly sweet! It's worth a try…perhaps when I next venture to Asda! There's also the Alpen Groove bar range. These are cereal bars, with a strip of yoghurt filling quite literally shovelled down the centre! These come in a selection of delicious-looking flavours; _sassy strawberry_, ...

Alpen in a handy bar!

Advantages: Tastes like the cereal, chocolate is a nice addition
Disadvantages: If you don't like Aplen cereal, you might not like this!

...when I came across the Alpen Cereal Bar in my local Sainsbury supermarket the other day. Could these bars be the solution to my breakfast related problems? The Bar Itself These Alpen bars come in a box of six, and are priced around the £1.50 mark in most stores. There are three different flavours of Alpen bars I believe, although the one I am focusing on is the Fruit and Nut version. Each bar is individually wrapped in a blue foil style wrapper, ...
...The bar consists of Alpen cereal, fruit, nut, and at the bottom of the bar, a layer of milk chocolate. Strange this as I don't remember chocolate being in my normal Alpen cereal box! Never mind, it is quite a welcome addition! Anyway, I am sure by now you are wondering how the bar actually tastes, so without further ado, onto the test drive. For those who are interested in the nutritional values of these bars, 100g provides as follows: Energy: ...

My quest for a cereal bar...

Advantages: Tastes nice
Disadvantages: Quite high fat, not too filling

...decided to go for an Alpen bar. A strawberry Alpen bar. Upon choosing this tasty looking bar I realise my challenge may well last just a day as in our local shop there are rows and rows of chocolate bars and crisps and the grand total of 3 different cereal bars! Lets just hope this one happens to be the stuff of my dreams.... oOoOo THE WRAPPER oOoOo This bar comes in a red and blue foil wrapper and the front just tells you this is an Alpen product ...
...cool dry place. * Alpen bars may contain traces of nuts. * oOoOo THE BAR oOoOo First of all, you need the strength of a titan to open the wrapper. Finally it gives and exposes a tiny weeny corner of the bar, leaving you struggling to get into the rest of it. Giving up and grabbing the scissors, I find myself looking at a non too appetising cereal bar. It smells sweet and strawberry-like, although this smell is really synthetic. The sight of it! ...

A cereal killer!!

Advantages: Quick snack
Disadvantages: Not very filling

...hadn’t had before was the Alpen cereal bar. I remembered when Alpen first came out it was branded as the new healthy breakfast cereal. I am not really a muesli type person since I find it far too sweet, but I was hungry, so I chose an Alpen bar of the Fruit and Nut with Chocolate variety. WHAT IS IT? Basically it is a cereal bar made of oats, raisins and nuts, bound together with glucose syrup, with the base covered in chocolate. Each bar ...
...29g would have 129kcal, so it is not too calorific. On the back of the packet it lists the ingredients, nutritional information and any contents which could possibly cause an allergic reaction. It contains sugar, which annoys me a little; can't they make a really 'helathy' cereal bar that doesn't contain sugar? Apart from that it also contains salt which I thought we were supposed to cut down on. So much for a healthy snack!! People with allergies ...

Disadvantages: Not sure whether I can go without picking any food before lunch.

There’s a picture of some strawberries, which look absolutely gorgeous, (my favourite fruit apart from cherries), and some corns of wheat poking about between them. Fancy some cereal with your sugar

Advantages: good value, filling, and attractive packaging
Disadvantages: Nutrition leaves something to be desired

...Price. I picked up some Alpen bars at our local Morrissons, where the price is 33p each or £1.40 for a pack of six. At the moment they are running a multi-buy, so you could get 4 for 99p or two packs of 6 for £2. At this price, the value for money is excellent. Packaging. The packaging is eye-catching. The bars are wrapped in a dark sky blue wrapper, with a contrasting colour mountain superimposed on the top. The eye-catching Alpen logo stands ...
...also quite mountain-shaped, almost like a toblerone but more rounded at the top. The eating experience. The packaging is easy to open, and you do get greeted with a rather sweet smell on opening it. The texture is described as 'crunchy', and I would agree insofar as it is definitely not chewy. Personally I would say it doesn't go quite so far as a 'crunch', but I wouldn't know quite how to describe the bite into it. More of a 'crump' than a 'crunch', ...
