    january /february 2012Alpha has not been working - functioning at all. it is all too fishy.no one there to answer your calls. i have paid for the call but cannot make a single call.... is this a SCAM?have i lost £10 for nothing?have sent them various email..... some boun ced back..... some have never been acknowledged.it doesn't sound good.we should all report it, make a complian to the right custumer care association and so on.i want an answer and my money back, i want alpha to get back to me and refund my money.worse possible service..... better still NO SERVICE at allTHE SYSTEM IS ONLY GOOD ... more

    The "entrepreneurs" that start these budget companies often don't know what they are doing, and even if the business is successful it is often due to luck and contacts, and not becausethe founder has good business acumen.Best to not prepaythese embryonic companies as they are often unreliable as this proves.This is maybe a lesson in not to use small companies, because like me, the money you have" saved"with cheap calls you have now lost because of the actions of others.Stick to BT :-).     When I first started to search for cheaper international call rates being sick of the price charged by BT, I opted to open an account with Alpha Telecom for their prepaid service. I noticed them due to the high number of adverts on the tube, although to begin with the calls seem to be sufficiently low priced. However, by the time I made several calls, a £20 pound credit on my account was very quickly used up. However much they boast about cheap call rates etc, I got tricked in that they had different rates for different access numbers, etc etc, so although they are quite a lot cheaper than BT ... more

    BUYERS BEWARE Alpha encourages users to top up large amounts of money to qualify for their free £5 of credit. What they do not do is make it absolutely clear i.e. not in small print - that if you don't use your account in a 6 month period, they will close your account and keep your money. I have tried on numerous occasions to get them to send automated emails to their customers to let them know when they are nearing the 6 months.     BUYER BEWARE ! ! ! ! ! I was told by an alpha telecom customer service person on the telephone that calls to India would be 9p / minute. This is also the rate advertised on their website. When I checked my account I realised that I was charged a staggering 46p / minute! When I called to complain I was told that this was because of my priceplan, but failed to explain why I was not advised to go onto the most cost effective priceplan.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Many including more expensive calls than other calling card companies, don't just compare with BT

    I used to use Alpha Telecoms when their calling card. I have to say the service sucks!!! BIG TIME! The call quality was TERRIBLE and when I called customer services I was hung on a LONG queue, and in the end I was CUT OFF! I was fuming! It was not a freephone number either! So people, DO NOT join Alpha! If you really need a long distance carrier, consider First Call (my current long distance calling card people, they offer very CHEAP and QUALITY calls). If you don't require cheap international but would like cheap UK calls, consider NTL, they have a 123 policy. 1p for local weekend, 2p for ... more

    It is 15 Jan 2012 and the lines are not working again. That's twice in 2012 and bearing in mind I only use that line on weekends. However they have an automated reply on the phoneline and on their website telling customers that there is a fault on the lines. I do not know how many days the lines have been out but, they were working on 8 Jan 2012 but the line was not very clear-poor sound quality and echoing. Does anyone know if they have gone or are going bust?? Any suggestion for good alternative for cgood, reliable and cheap calls to the Far East... Chinese New Year coming up next week and I ... more

    Advantages Advantages Some international rates are much lower than competitor's. Look at India: 4.50 p!!!

    I first heard about Alpha Telecom from a friend of mine some years ago. From my point of view, Alpha's offers and promotions are very interesting and international rates (especially to India, my main interest) are much lower than competitor's! Joining up was easy. I simply visited their web site at www.alphatelecom.co.uk and filled out their application form. I was then given an account number with a chosen pin and can now dial international numbers at a much lower charge.     Advantages Advantages Sound quality is very good; it’s feeling like you didn’t talk via telephone.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The best time to call is in the evening time.

    Keep in touch with family; it is very important for people like me who live very far away from my home country. Of course, the best way I chose to keep in touch with them is telephone but the problem is which very difficult to find one is suitable for my budget. I used many companies some company offer phone cheap rate but have contract long term, some company haven’t contract but price is too dear.
