Advantages Advantages Carry lots of books with you - it is small and light, it is comfy to read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Protective covers need to be purchased seperately. The 'back' button is in an awkward place

When E-readers (electronic reading devices) were first launched I was quite convinced that they wouldn't catch on and that they would never replace the feel and smell of a new book. As they developed and became more widespread I became more interested to find out what they were really like. I then saw the many pluses to e-readers generally - carrying plenty of books when you go away, the portability, not reading on a long journey because your not in the mood for the book you brought with you etc. I had some friends who had the Sony Pocket reader and thought that would be the way I would go ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact, cheaper than 'real' books, 3G works anywhere Vodafone does

Disadvantages Disadvantages Anti-social, no-one else gets to read the book, and charity shops lose out.

KINDLE is Amazon’s take on the electronic book reader. I’m not sure about that name though – does it mean you should kindle the flames of a huge bonfire with all your old ‘real books’ in some remake of Fahrenheit 451? Or does it imply that it will re-kindle a new interest in reading the printed word, albeit printed with ‘e-ink’ (it just had to have a e-name didn’t it? At least it doesn’t begin with ‘i’ though). One thing it will do though is lessen our luggage requirements for our annual two week’s in Spain, since my wife normally takes enough books to re-stock a small library. The attraction ... more

The Amazon Kindle is one of the most popular e-readers available. The Kindle 3, the 3rd generation Kindle, was released in 2010, and it's small size and low price have ensured it has been snapped up by many. This version of the Kindle now seems to be referred to as the Kindle Keyboard, to distinguish it from newer versions which don't have the keyboard. I had considered buying a Kindle for myself when they were released, but I could never decide if I should - I LOVE books, I love the feel and smell of them, and ever since I was able to read on my own I have loved curling up on the sofa with a ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages New release books are a little pricey

For quite a few years I’ve been the proud, well maybe not proud but I’ve been the owner of a Sony e-reader. The problem was always finding content to actually put on the e-reader, never mind the fact every time I wanted to buy new books I had to download them, plug it in and really it all just seemed like a bit of a farce. Then around about the middle of 2011 I came across the Kindle with 3G connection and it at least appeared that my problems were solved. It took me a couple of months to finally take the plunge and by the time we went on holiday at the end of September I was the proud owner ... more

I’ve just added another item to the list of bad luck incidents: My Kindle arrived in the morning and in the evening of the same day I read on Amazon that the prize had dropped by 40 Euro. 40 Euro! An old woman has to knit a lot for this as the Germans say or, translated into our sphere here, a ciaoer has to write a lot of reviews. I had thoroughly thought through the acquisition of a Kindle for months, why hadn’t I waited another week? One reason for my hesitation was that I found the price very high. One doesn’t just buy the naked gadget, one needs a cover, a clamp, and a warranty is also ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact, lightweight, many features, the text is crisp and clear, 3,500 book capacity!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The web browser crashes & the pages are small on it, MP3 player a bit disappointing.

**This review is also listed on DooYoo under "MonsoonBaby"** I have always been a bookworm, and over years of collecting, have built up a substantial book collection. However, I have recently downsized into a small one bedroom flat, and so sadly my collection would not fit in its entirety. Yes, it was a shame, and I pondered about the possibility of making the room for them all, when suddenly, I found myself the owner of an Amazon Kindle for Christmas. The Kindle allows you to store roughly around 3,500 books in it's large memory. This means that if you were to fill it completely, you are ... more

Advantages Advantages To many to list

Disadvantages Disadvantages You do have to go to sleep sometime.

"Bibliophile" (The common term for someone who loves reading) That is all you need to be, to qualify for owning the "Amazon Kindle 3". So I most definetley qualify. I first heard about the kindle in the summer of last year, I decided then and there, that an electronic device could never take the place of an original "tree book". However the more I saw the Amazon Kindle being advertised, the more I began to change my mind, I thought to myself it sounds quite good, the idea of having so many books with me at all times sounded very appealing to me. So I bit the bullet and told my husband, a ... more

We bought the Kindle primamrily for my other half who had a contract which saw him travelling to London and Manchester a lot by train and the idea was that the Kindle would allow him to store up a lot of reading material for those journeys in order to pass the time, however I have also found myself using it in the gym when on the bike which is something I do every so often as a break from my regular cardio workout and unlike other machines where your body movement means reading is not really possible it is very good on a static bike and I have also used it myself when travelling in to London ... more

Advantages Advantages Thousands of titles, most of them free, in my handbag :-)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost of recent popular releases is not competitive.

It started disastrously, between me and my Kindle. I wanted the Kindle two years ago because I spent lots of time in a caravan, where space was at a premium. As I relied on internet access via a dongle, I decided to go the full hog and get the Kindle with 3G - it was a bit extravagant at the time, but as most of my favourite books are the size of bricks (I was on my 5th copy of Lord of the Rings at that time, due to constant downsizing and repurchasing), I decided it was an investment. It arrived punctually and it was a thing of beauty, light and easy to read. It's so easy to use a monkey ... more

Kindle 3. I love books, and reading, and I must admit that if I bring just one more book into the house, it may burst at the seams. With this in mind, I had been hinting to my partner for a Kindle for Christmas, to no avail, so when I had a small windfall, without hesitation, I immediately purchased it myself. ~~~ Set up~~~ When you switch the kindle on you are greeted with a welcome message and Instructions on how to use the product. First thing to do though is charge it up. This doesn't take long at all, so the running costs are minimal. To select a particular item, you are able to press up ... more
