Many people over the recent festive period would have had found a flat A4 sized parcel waiting for them under the tree, and all would in no doubt be avid book readers. One of the most popular presents since Buzz Lightyear, the new Amazon Keyboard-less Kindle has been gifted to many happy bookworms this year, and I am no exception, courtesy of my wonderful girlfriend! Marketed at being slimmer, easier to read, faster and cheaper, Amazon make a lot of bold boasts about it. So after nearly four weeks of using it, here are my thoughts on this top-class E-book reader. All the Hardbock Books will ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages -

I have always liked the idea of having an e-reader but have never really thought about buying one, if I were to get any I'd have always chosen the Kindle. For Christmas, I was lucky enough to have been given a Kindle which was exciting as I want to read more and maybe this is just what I needed. I think my first initial thought with the Kindle was that it was a lot smaller than I'd expected it to be which in all honesty is a good thing. I was given the leather case to keep it protected in which I'm glad of as without it I'd never feel comfortable carrying it around and this way it is safe ... more

5 Stars For the bookworm in all of us. Review with images 16/11/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Easy to carry, clear print, good battery life, access to thousands of books including free classic

Disadvantages Disadvantages No new book smell, no longer supports audio

I'm what you would call a real bookworm, always have been and guess I always will be. Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper, I've devoured books at the rate of two, three or more a week. Not only do I love to read, but I also like to own my own copies rather than borrow them from the library, so that I can return to them like the well-loved friends they are. My partner had almost resigned himself to the hundreds of books taking over the bedroom, but only almost. To satisfy my love of the written word without forcing us to sleep between towers of books, my partner decided that the All-New ... more

5 Stars Kindle! Review with images 15/12/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages light, stores lots, easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages black and white pictures, no book smell

Kindle! Last Sunday (or many Sundays ago if you are reading this a while after I first published it!) was a rather exciting day for me as it was my birthday. I got a few gifts of chocolates and a PS3 game but the best things were from my boyfriend who bought me lovely bath stuff and a Kindle! Now, I've never actually seen a Kindle in real life before I had this one given to me so I was unsure to begin with what to expect and how to work it. I got everything figured out pretty quickly though! What is a Kindle? The Kindle is a portable E-reader, which means it is used to read books in an ... more

5 Stars Konverted to the Kindle? Review with images 16/06/2012
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Lightweight, Easy to Set up and Use, Brilliant Technology, Quick Downloads

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's not the same as a proper book

Intro After a good year or more of procrastinating about whether or not I should get a Kindle the matter was resolved back in May when I received one as a birthday present. Mine is the Kindle 4, Amazon's latest incarnation of their now world-famous E Book reader and is the wi-fi model rather than the 'touch' or 3G. At £89.00 this is the cheapest of the variations on offer and having had a good month or so's use out of mine and having put it through its paces I felt it was time to share my thoughts and opinions on it. Do I regret not getting one when they first came out rather than dithering ... more

Advantages Advantages lots of different settings

    Disadvantages Disadvantages small screen

The Kindle 4 needs no introduction; most people will know that that it is the latest incarnation of Amazon's E-reader. It is a basic model with no extra keyboard or ability to surf the web or listen to audio books. What it does have is the ability to store up to 1400 books and carry your own personal library around with you to read anyplace and anytime. I am late coming to the world of digital books; one of the things that stopped me taking the plunge was that I wondered how well I would get on with the device as someone who lives with Keratoconus. This is an eye condition which causes poor ... more

    Advantages Advantages Compact and handy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't easily share books with friends

I love reading and when e-readers first starting appearing I really didn’t think anything would make me want to own one. I love the feel and smell of books, there is something wonderful about browsing around a bookshop for hours, reading the blurb and being enticed by the interesting covers. Eighteen months ago I bought my husband a Kindle. He loves gadgets and had wanted one for a long time so it was an easy decision to make. When I first saw it I was not particularly impressed with its dull grey appearance and my interest was not piqued. When we went on holiday in the summer I ended up ... more

Advantages Advantages Look, feel, size, simplicity of use

Disadvantages Disadvantages General miserliness of Amazon

Logging-on – Introduction I love books and I love reading. Having previously had one of the lesser known brands of e-reader when they first came out, I made the decision to switch to the Kindle. The main reason was that I simply wasn’t buying e-books. The availability was poor and the cost was equivalent with paper books. In the end it was pointless having it. And yet every time I looked on Amazon there was a Kindle version cheaper than I could buy it in print. As much as I detested giving the Amazon behemoth my business I had to concede that there was no avoiding it. So I sold up and bought ... more

Many people by now will have heard of the Amazon Kindle - the electronic book reader. The older version (with the keyboard) has been out a little while now. The Kindle 4 (or just 'Kindle' as it as now known with the keyboard version being aptly renamed to 'Kindle Keyboard') was released just over a year ago now - October 2011. Amazon have recently released an updated version - which looks identical to the Kindle 4, but is supposed to be a bit faster, and is actually cheaper. With this new latest version you also have the option of 'black' as well as 'graphite' whereas with the older Kindle 4 ... more
