Advantages Advantages Small but packed with functions

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Level of sound

I finally decided to purchase a DVD player when a few films I really wanted to see had or so I thought only been bought out in DVD format. I did not really want to spend a huge amount of money as quite honestly I do not get to watch that many films and those I do are normally watched through sky television. So when I started looking at all the different models I wanted as many functions for the least money I could spend. I finally visited Asda. Not a place I would normally think of for buying my electrical goods at all. I did actually make a purchase of a DVD player and below I am going to ... more

Advantages Advantages Great price, great guarantee, great range of features

Disadvantages Disadvantages No multiregion playback or VCD playback

I got the Apex DVD player for £69 from my local ASDA about a month ago. I hadn't gone out to buy a DVD player, in fact, much the opposite. I'd just got home from holiday and was *trying* to save money. However, whilst bored in a queue for the checkout I accidentally bought one of these. It seemed one of those offers that was too good to miss! £69 for a fairly advanced player, which looked really good and came with a 3 year ASDA warranty. A month later, I'm really glad I did buy it, even though having 12p left in my bank account after the money had been taken was a little inconvenient! Anyway ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap and Compact

Disadvantages Disadvantages Does not play VCDs

I bought this DVD player from Asda about 3 weeks ago, and must say that I am impressed. The main reason I bought it was because it was cheap - I wanted a second player for the bedroom and did not want to spend a fortune on it as it would not get used an awful lot. I paid just under £70 for it, and because it was Asda, got an automatic 3 year new for old/replacement no quibble warrenty! Now that alone is worth about £50 if not more! The DVD player is in chrome and visually pleasing. It is remote controlled (which surprised me given the price) but still has all of the buttons discreetly ... more

Advantages Advantages A lot for not a lot

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No VCD support

I paid just under £70 for it, and because it was Asda, got an automatic 3 year new for old/replacement no quibble warrenty! Now that alone is worth about £50 if not more! The reason for the purchase was to have a second player for another room, so price was the main driver. The DVD player is in chrome and visually pleasing. It is remote controlled (which surprised me given the price) but still has all of the buttons discreetly positioned on the unit. Most other 'cheaper' models I have seen, tend to be big, bold and bulky - but not this one. The unit came with all the cables etc. you need to ... more

    Advantages Advantages Affordable viewing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Wish I had read the Ciao reviews before buying mine

Having just read some of the other reviews for this product I was disappointed to find that I had paid over the odds for this machine! I actually paid £89 for it at a computer fair and thought that I was getting a bargain! Someone must have seen me coming! However, when all is said and done, this is a very tidy player for the money. It is chrome effect and visually pleasing with the standard remote control facilities. The manual control buttons are discreetly positioned on the unit - I have noticed that most other 'cheaper' models tend to be big, bold and bulky. The unit came with all the ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, small, easy to multi-region.

Disadvantages Disadvantages 2 channel sound, feels cheap.

This DVD player is cheap. It's about £30 from the highstreet store. It plays mp3s, dvds and is easy to make multi-region using a series of button inputs on the remote. (codes easily found on the internet) It weighs about 3kg, and sits nicely under the 14" tv in my bedroom. I use it to listen to music CDs and mp3 cds as well as watch dvds. It plays cdrs and dvdrs with no problems. The remote is well laid out and the standby button is easy to locate at 3am when you wake up to find it still on. : ) I think it is an ideal solution for the kids bedroom for when they want to watch a dvd while you ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb value for money.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not easy to use the interface

I got the Apex (my first DVD) from ASDA for $69, a bit of an impulse buy but I am so glad I did. I am new to DVD, didn't want to sell my video collection down the river. The first thing to notice when I got it out of the box was the ease with which it all installed. Scart leads and audio leads were there - straight into the back of the telly, straight into the back of the stereo and within 5 minutes I was watching Lord of the rings in glorious stereo. Picture quality is superb, sound is fantastic. For the money, I could not believe it to be honest. (But maybe I am thinking in VHS terms still?) ... more

Advantages Advantages Lasts long time, good performance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of image playback and surround sound support.

The APEX DVD player is basically what you get for your money. It offers the basic features of DVD playback but lacks some key features required in todays technology. The DVD player is capable of playing most DVD's however it is quite poor at picture disc playback as it often tells you that there is some form of error. It also lacks LCD display so it is hard to tell features such as time lapsed, chapter number and so on (unless you bring it up on on-screen display). I also found a problem when resuming a film. When you insert the same disc you have just played the player tells you to press the ... more
