Shining Light

Advantages: It's great
Disadvantages: It's ugly

...opinion is slightly misleading, as Apple have recently relaunched the Emac with more powerful processors (mine is the 1.25ghz) whilst, get this, slashing the prices. You can now own an exceptional computer that mocks the the fastest of fast PCs for a mere £550 including the dreaded VAT. Upgradeable from the easy to use Apple website, I pushed the boat out and doubled the memory to 512mb (upgradeable to 1gig), and leapt from a 40 gig hard drive to ...
...to hook up online with Apple and download music for 79p a track. Apple online support is great and again makes a mockery of the clunking world of Microsoft and Windows. Browse the support using either Internet Explorer, or Macs own internet browser 'Safari' which I confess to not being overly found of. 'A little buggy' best describes it. Whilst online, you may wish to make the most of IChat or ISight, Apples own competitors to MSN Messenger, ICQ ...

To E or not to E?

Advantages: Beautiful retro design, huge screen, never crashes!
Disadvantages: Potential build quality problems, lack of preinstalled memory

...popular demand from Mac lovers, Apple decided to make it available to the general public. If you look closely at the design, you can see how the design came about. The front is relatively featureless - although it borrows the old iMac's shape and the new eMac's colour scheme, later models now have fixed speaker grilles (to prevent theft) and a case which is seemingly inpenetrable, apart from a small slot for memory and battery replacement, cleverly ...
...ugly! A picture on the Apple site showed it as a bland white blob. "Why would anyone want one of those instead of a tangerine iMac?" I thought - and quickly dismissed it. It wasn't until I was wndering aimlessly around the Mac section of my local PC World that the eMac caught my eye - and wow, did it look different! The flat-screen 17" display was completely stunning... enormous, crisp, clear and very easy on the eye. In a weird way, an eMac sitting ...

...Ohh and the programs. Apple applications are AWESOME. iPhoto organizes all of your photos in chronological order in a really really easy to use program that automatically uploads and controls the content on your digital camera. iTunes IS the worlds best MP3 player, take my word for it, I've tried them all. I've got all of the music in my house (about 1600 songs) on here at the moment and it automatically synchronizes it with my iPod, which IS the ...

Emac - a Fruity little number!

Advantages: Looks great, works great, doesn't crash.
Disadvantages: Pretty but badly designed mouse. That's it!

...and straight forward. Using Apple computers every day for work and pleasure I never tire of their simple, well thought out design. I bought my eMac when I left my job and started up business on my own. I am a grphic designer and already had an older G3 Mac but needed something up to date but not too expensive. The eMac fitted the bill perfectly. The monitor is big and sharp enough to work with and the processor is fast enough for anything bar high ...
...to be dropped from the Apple range after the introduction of the tiny, similarly spec'ed, sans-monitor Mac Mini. The computer manufacturers continue to make faster machines but really I can't see the benefits outweighing the costs for me to upgrade. The eMac is fast enough for most professional and consumer users. So... get yourself a cheap stock clearance eMac, pop in some extra memory, ditch the mouse for a Microsoft Explorer or Logitech MX and ...

EMAC good enough for me

Advantages: totally reliable, user-friendly, attractive design
Disadvantages: not compatible with pc games and such

I spent many months researching computers on my own time with the goal of purchasing a system that would last longer than the six months that most of the PC's my friends were buying were lasting before becoming painfully bogged down by random crashes and general problems. I spoke to many different computer geeks and found that overwhelmingly the only major disadvantage for the average consumer was that because of Mac's disappearance from the market ...
...close to the volume of games offered for PC. Furthermore I was informed that a Mac would likely stay useful for much longer than the average PC of similar value and thus I was sold. I couldn't have been more happy than when I received this rig to discover that a single cord rendered my PC-ten-plug power bar unnecessary and that after plugging it in, the machine virtually set itself up. I was even more pleased to find that Mac had set all the programs ...

Disadvantages: Not very compatable

...straight onto the hard disk. Apple bundles a video editor called iMovie with the eMac, as well as a DVD recording program called iDVD, which can be used in conjunction with the SuperDrive to create your own CDs and DVDs. Other useful features include a network port and a 56K modem for dial-up internet connections. There is a cheaper version with less memory, a smaller hard disk and a CD-RW drive. This slices £200 off the price, making it worthwhile ...

A fantastic computer

Advantages: Very user friendly, practical, fantastic design and fun!
Disadvantages: It's not a PC which can be difficult at times. Also, not as many games available.

My brother got his eMac about a year ago and I immediately fell in love with it's aesthetic design (it is perhaps the best looking computer ever made) and it's user friendly nature. I recently got my own and I have never looked back! From a practical point of view it couldn't be better. Firstly there is no separate cd tower, its all in the monitor. This means that it fits nicely onto a desk. There are also hardly any cables to deal with - only one ...
...would call a computer person and so I was very pleased to find that it was also easy to setup - just plug it in and follow the straight forward instructions. Secondly, all the programs are simple which is great for those people who don't consider themselves to be computer people. It's simplicity makes it easy and very stress free to use! In many cases (but certainly not all) It is the professional's choice, especially if you are into music production ...

Apple eMac G4

Advantages: Everything is in one place
Disadvantages: Very heavy!

I bought my eMac nearly a year ago now and I am really pleased with it. I love the design, it looks really modern and the fact that everything is held within the monitor saves lots of space! The computer comes with lots of programs already installed, such as Tony Hawks 4 and AppleWorks. All the iLife programs on OSX Panther are really simple to use and look good. I primarily bought the Mac to use for music, movies and photos and although I have put ...

A great computer but a bit bulky

Advantages: Easy to use, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Bulky and the screen gets greasy marks.

...this computer comes with brilliant apple software, which is perfect for being creative. The speakers are in-built and give good quality sound. Burning CDs and DVDs is incredibly easy and to back up your CDs all you have to do is insert the disc and it will burn itself. The only problem I have discovered is that the glass CRT screen easily picks up greasy marks which need carefully cleaning off. It is also more bulky than other apple computers and ...

Ok ignore that the thing looks sexy. This is a super machine, everything that it comes with is easy to use and based around people who use technology for the 21st century. eMac Heaven

Advantages: All in one design
Disadvantages: A little bulky

Ok, firstly, for all you non switchers, you have to understand that this mac maybe a little on the bulky side by todays mac standards, but there is a reason for it. The guts of the computer is actually inside the monitor unit. No more storing the tower underneath the desk where it gets kicked all the time, this machine keeps it all in one place. So as you can see where it takes up a little more room on your desk top, it actually increases the amount ...
...actual eMac. I consider the emac machine to be the most reliable and sterdy of all macs. This machine will do everything you want it to and more, from producing your everyday apps such as Word / Excel / Powerpoint (Office is an extra) to ripping DVD's with its all new superdrive (in selected models). With a 1.5 Ghz G4 Processor and 80 gig hard drive as standard this emac is all you need to cope with nessecary stuff. I personally own an emac and find ...

Great little desktop

Advantages: Cheap, good spec, attractive
Disadvantages: May be bulky for some

Being an Apple you can only expect top quality and this is what you get. The eMac is mainly targeted for students going off to university, as it is the cheapest Mac in the range. The spec is good with 40gb hard drive, which is standard for most PCs now. The large 17-inch screen has great colour and depth. The overall design of the Mac is excellent and well thought out and the eMac delivers all the things the iMac can do without the high price. For ...

Liked but not Loved, reviewed

Advantages: Fast, No mess
Disadvantages: Design

As far as an Apple Mac goes this is good, it has A wicked processor (1Ghz Apple G4 is not the equivelent of a PIII 1Ghz, its actually around P4 2.4Ghz) Our school uses these speedy Mac's, they are great for multitasking and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it (Software wise!) One of the things i do not like that much about Apples are their design and lack of ease of upgrade (Me being a die hard PC / Windows fan) To me it is quite ...
