    Years ago, when mobile phones first came out, the general consensus amongst most people was along the lines of ‘what could possibly be so important that you’d want to walk around town talking on the phone’ and of course they were the size of house bricks so anyone with one couldn’t help but look like a complete idiot.     My husband bought me my iphone 3gs for Christmas, I had dropped plenty of hints and it paid off for once! I think its about time I reviewed it now. Availability- I bought my iphone 3gs from a o2 shop (pay as you go) for £440, I suggest that you look around for the best deal, I found it depends what network you want effects the price, there are great contract deals available in most phone shops.     I've had my iPhone 3GS 16GB for about six months now. I know plenty of reviews have been written about the phone and some would say there's nothing left to say, but I am going to share my experiences with you and tell you all the things I wish I'd known before I made my purchase. I didn't intend to buy an iPhone, but when my phone contract came up for renewal I realised that the age of cheap phone contracts has come and gone.     Probably a little late on this review since there has been at least another 2 upgrades to this but I'm still rockin' mine so thought I'd go for it. I was a little sceptical about getting an iPhone at first but thought I would go with the crowd so when my contract was ready for an upgrade I decided to join the iPhone club.     I am afraid to admit that prior to owning my 3GS I was an Apple 'naysayer'. I had never owned anything manufactured by apple, and I never had any desire to. Then one day when my contract came up for review I opted for a Nokia... it broke within four days of ownership, so I was allowed to choose another phone...     I have had my IPhone for a while now and I love it so! I had wanted 1 for ages, but always put off getting one. I've never had a contract Phone and was considering taking this on contract just to get my hands on one, but I always held back. It would have been a good way to pay it up, but the thought of paying £30 a month and being tied into a 2 year contact just didn't sit right with me. So the phone would end up costing me £720.     I got an Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB in white as a birthday present from my father last year because I was getting bored with my old Nokia 6080. Before I received my iPhone, I already had iTunes installed on my laptop so I felt that the iPhone 3GS was a logical choice for a smartphone. The best features of the iPhone 3GS are the pre-loaded apps such as Calendar, YouTube, Weather (although inaccurate at times), Calculator, Safari, Camera,Google Maps, iPod, App Store and iTunes.     The wife has recently got an iPhone after wanting 1 for ages. I didn't want one as I thought Texting and that would be quite hard, so she bought me an iPod Touch as a present, and I sort of see that tapping and all that really isn't too hard on them, even for my big clumsy fingers. She paid £440 for hers. She wanted it on pay as you go, as has never had a contract phone and didn't want to be tied into a contract in case anything happened and £30 a month wasn't that easy to find.     My job requires me to travel all over the country and sometimes abroad however I mainly spend my time in Cornwall. Access to the internet is often difficult so out of a need to do such simple things as online banking I decided to purchase the new iPhone 3GS. Customer Service: I purchased the iPhone at Carphone warehouse where the service was very prompt and helpful. They talked me through what I needed to do to get going and didn’t try to push any ‘essential’ accessories onto me which has often been the case previously.     The iphone, like all apple products, has a minimal design, it looks slick, sophisticated and - that's right - a little bit futuristic, even if the weight of the thing makes it hang heavy in the pocket. The menu is also simple to use and similarly nicely designed; obviously if you're stepping up to using an iphone for the first time, it takes some time getting used to it as with anything, but it's easy to become comfortable with.
