Advantages: Useful remote for your iPod. Extra earphones. Well integrated with the software. Disadvantages: Expensive. Not a good quality radio.
...a replacement pair of original Apple headphones are close to £20, you may as well shop around for this little bundle instead. Even if you do not want a radio it is nice to keep your iPod in your bag or coat and control it with a Shuffle style remote.
I used to have a Griffin radio and remote for my iPod (Griffin 9125-IFM30 iFM - FM Radio and Remote for iPod) . It was okay and I think the radio had better reception. I still prefer the Apple version ... ...one on the iPod (and identical to that on the iPod Shuffle) and it integrates with the software on the iPod - you get a very nice 1950s/Star Trek crossover tuner display (which shows data such as the name and tagline of the station you are listening to) on the iPod whereas the Griffin remote just showed a frequency on the remote itself. Then again if you are keeping the iPod tucked away, a display on the remote may be better for you.
You can set ...

Advantages: Ease of use, build quality, problem free remote control feature Disadvantages: Mediocre radio reception, bit expensive I suppose
...around £20-25 more than the Apple radio remote, and also the Monster was criticised that when the volume was turned up slightly it could on occasions keep on going up till it reached maximum. But like I have said the sole reason for purchasing the radio remote was for the remote control feature and this it does VERY WELL! The radio remote connects into the iPod's docking port (this is the port/socket at the bottom of the iPod). According to Apple's ... ...remote are a pair of Apple earphones, but you can use any earphones or headphones that you so wish. Once I have plugged everything in I normally lock the iPod's controls with its hold button, slip the iPod into my inside jacket pocket and clip the remote on to the front of my jacket and now I am able to control the iPod without having to take it out of my pocket.
The buttons on the radio remote are of a similar layout to the iPod's, skip/search ...

Advantages: Its a remote control Disadvantages: Doesn't do a lot, very basic, Cant be used to switch that radio on!!!
...its a good way for Apple to get £35 off you, and for £35 I would expect something more than this.
The biggest problem is that you can't switch between Music from your iPod and the radio with the radio remote. So if you are going a long listening to some tunes on your iPod, you cant use your "RADIO REMOTE" to switch your RADIO on!! I am not saying it should be overly complicated, but literally all you can do is change tracks, volume and play/pause/stop.
... ...to obvious a feature to leave out. You have to get the iPod out of of your bag or pocket and change the mode on the iPod, its really frustrating not being able to switch between iPod and radio on the move especially when cycling.
If you are listening to a playlist and it ends, if you then press play on the remote the iPod reverts to the first song that is alphabetically on your iPod, I would much rather have the option to have it automatically go ...

Advantages: Useful little add on, easy to use Disadvantages: Should be built into the iPod
The iPod radio remote is a handy little addition to any iPod user. It is easy to use and offers a decent reception. You simply plug in the adapter and you get a radio option appear on the menu. Clicking this brings up the radio tuner and you just use the click wheel to scroll to your radio station, or by holding next or previous track buttons it will auto tune to the next station (this however has a tendency to sometimes miss out stations). The radio ... ...really use it to listen to the football when I'm out and about. The reception is average, I wouldnt say its brilliant but its definatly not the worst I have used, I manage to get a constant signal without too much interfereance so thats ok. The headphones used have a shorter cable that plug into a mini remote which then plugs into the connector at the bottom of the ipod. This is ok as the remote gives you the extra length but if you wanted to take ...

Advantages: Controlls in a easy to access location, VERY easy to use Disadvantages: Cost
I bought this product at the same time as buying my Ipod Nano. When i got them out the box i put them both together straight away and all i had to do was select radio in the Ipod nano's menu and i was ready to listen to the radio. The sound quality was perfect in a location where other radios have struggled to not be fuzzy. Changing between the stations took a little bit to get used to but after 5 minutes of fiddling with it i had that sorted like ... ...are a great little addition with their shorter cable, its just long enough for me to be able to clip the remote onto a belt loop.
With the repote on a belt loop it makes changing the tunes on my ipod very easy. Just press the middle button and the radio stops or the sound is paused. A simple press on the top or bottom button will change the volume in no time at all. A press on one of the side buttons simply changes the track or radio station with ...

Advantages: iPod radio remote accessory Disadvantages: isn;t the most needed accessory
The Apple iPod Radio Remote is a very convenient product for the iPod as it is a "plug and play" type of product. By this i mean that the user plugs the iPod radio remote into the iPod, from there the user has to select radio from the menu on the iPod. I have to admit that i am don't always listen to the radio but this iPod accessory needed to be purchased and its pretty easy to naviagate and to tune the radio remote in you have to go to the colour ... ...remote accessory you can easily switch between different stations. With my iPod I am happy with switch between stations without the remote but it is easlier to switch with the wired remote and it is a good addition to my iPod because videos, music, volumme can all be controled with the remote. The remote weighs in at around half an ounce which is very light and doesn't really boudulge out or anything. I feel this is important as its an accessory ...

I walked into the apple shop in the Trafford Centre and saw this on the shelves. I bought it for £35 on the spot and unwrapped it in the shop.
As soon as I plugged the unit into the bottom of my Ipod (30Gb Video) There was an extra option on the menu 'Radio'......

The unit also doubles up as a remote control too which is very handy if you don't like getting your ipod out in public. I put my ipod in a zipped pocket in my bag and just have the control clipped to my jacket and hey presto no would be thieves can see my goods on display. You also get a pair of Ipod headphones in the box.
So its £19.99 for a set of headphones from apple

Advantages: extra earphones, easy set up, useful remote Disadvantages: not great for moving around with
My main use for this is as a stationary radio at work and it works really well especially as all I really wanted was 2 FM stations.
Cost:
The Radio remote was expensive to buy on the High Street, buy it online! – this cost me £40 in a music store and it is far cheaper on eBay etc.
Reception:
The reception was perfect once I moved the radio around a bit and the earphone jack speakers did not cause any interference. It was really useful to have ... ...radio as opposed to plugging it into the base of the iPod. I occasionally walk the dog with the radio on which makes the reception crackle every few minutes. Setup: The setup was easy – I plugged it in and the radio option appeared instantly on the iPod. I did find it a bit fiddly to tune into radio stations initially but I discovered that the iPod region was set to the USA. Again this was easy to change. It’s easy to store your favourite stations ...

Advantages: Small, Compact, Multiple uses Disadvantages: Can be confused with ipod shuffle.
well i bought this radio about a month ago and let me start by telling you it is a great product. The Good things are: It is very compact and can be carried around easily: allows another connection of earphones to the ipod so two people can listen aswell, it allows you to scroll through the radio tuning so you can pick up on your favourite signals. it can also be used as a controler for when you just listening to music you can , play / pause, skip ... ...adds length to the headphone wire as it connects to a pair of headphones and essentially doubles the length.
