Advantages: An excellent MP3 player with a huge hard drive. Disadvantages: So much space available you may not know exactly what to do with it all.

This is my second iPod purchase in 3 years. I previously had the 30GB video black. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, but I needed something to better accommodate my rapidly expanding music collection.
Ipods are achingly, horribly trendy. Stick a lower case "i" in front of anything and it immediately becomes cool. Seriously, keep your eyes peeled for an iPope. Over the years the iPod has changed in size and shape, and it's learnt more and ... ...one key selling point - simplicity. Personally, I can live with the burden of owning something fashionable if it makes my days go by that little bit easier. So anyway, I'll do a bit-by-bit review and we can see what's what.
PRICE
I paid £230 in Curry's for this, which I think is exceptionally good value. It may not be as small as its siblings, but for those who have an HMV store's worth of music on their PC and just want something to listen to ...

...A cursory glance at the apple website showed me that that the 160Gb classic iPod was cheaper than the amount I paid 13 months ago for my 80Gb, so I now have the newer version.

Thirdly, to charge the iPod up you use the supplied USB cable (which also serves to connect the iPod into the PC when transferring music) but your PC has got to remain switched on during the charging process, which sometimes isn't convenient, so I would recommend purchasing the USB power adapter which sells for around £19, with this you can charge the iPod up using a mains electric socket. Personally though ... ...power adapter.
The software that is supplied with the iPod is Itunes (which has always been the case with the iPod's) this software is used to import songs from CD and then on to the iPod, when you are importing songs from the CD, (providing you have an internet connection) iTunes will detect what the name of the CD is and also show all the track listings, so basically when you import the songs over on to the iPod, all the tracks then have names. ...

Why would you want to have so much memory inside your MP3 player you might ask, well, why not? Before I purchased the 160GB iPod Classic, I owned a 256mb Goodmans MP3 player, which only held 30-40 songs. I then was given a 2GB iPod Nano for my birthday and I thought that 2GB was a lot considering I didn't really have much music on my computer at the time. But as I started downloading music and buying more CD's, I started to acquire a lot of tracks ... ...so much, it was quite a task trying to sift out 2GB of music worthy enough to go onto my iPod. Then I started downloading U2 bootlegs at 100MB (approx.) a show and this was the final straw, I was in need of a bigger capacity MP3 player.
So, after much thought and the release of the new iPod Classics at the time I decided upon the Classic. The next question was 80GB or 160GB? Well at the time, I had 40GB of music and about 20GB of videos, so an 80GB ...

...is one of the few apple products I have in my home there good products but I just haven't got round to getting a Mac yet.
I had and do still have my little iPod classic with a 60GB hard drive but sure enough I filled it up after a year or two even low I was told by the man at the store it would be all I would ever need. So I bought a new one a bigger and better one then out came the iPods touch just a short time after I got the iPod now I will have ... ...The screen is tiny and it's an LCD screen I'm not sure of the exact size but it is quite large.
If you were to compare this version of iPod an iPod classic with the all new iPod touch it lacks in memory size at the moment the maximum is only 16GB around 144GB less than my iPod.
But it makes up for this with these features a scratch resistant touch screen and web browsing capabilities.
I got my iPod in jet black in The Carphone warehouse for £240 ...

...Opening any product made by apple is a joy in itself - one does wonder how long they deliberate over the pretty box! Getting over the box design, the IPod is neatly presented - with the contents kept in individual packaging.
Once I tapped the play button, the usual setup menu was a welcoming sight and I continued the usual setup process. However you can setup the IPod by hooking it directly to the laptop and launching ITunes. Synced the IPod up ... ...the '40 hours' quoted by apple is a little ambitious - however if you configure your iPod properly you will get a decent charge. (tip: This can be achieved by going to the settings menu, look at changing the backlight timer and turn the clicks off and the battery should last longer).
The menu system has been brought into 07-08 and is pretty much similar to the old system and easy to use. The finish is metal with a matt finish (black) - and the headphones ...

Although the included Apple Ipod earphones are not high standard, with the purchase of some decent headphones you most certainly will not be complaining when it comes to sound quality. The ipod can hold music files in all different kinds of quality and you are not just restricted to the 128-Kbps that most music files come in, so if you want to listen to that Mozart really loud or the intricate melodies of Guns 'n' Roses then the Ipod can ... ...manage the second.)
The Build quality is also nothing short of outstanding. I have owned Ipods ever since the 3rdGen and I have never had to replace one cause of breaking or it becoming faulty. I have only ever updated out of simply wanting the newer, prettier model.

The Apple iPod 160GB Black Classic is one of the best way to listen to your music, take a look at your photo's and watch your videos.

The iPod Classic is proberly mainly used for music. And I can see why! This iPod can hold up to 40000 songs! Your music is displayed in an easy to access way with clear cut menus that come in artist, song and playlist form so you can access your favourite songs quickly. You can also use the new cover flow ... ...have a problem with it Apple have great customer support so you can sort it out the same day. They even replaced my iPod when I broke it. You can do so much with the iPod there is so point in getting another on elike Zune or Creative. Stick with the iPod!

That is until I bought this iPod. Okay, Okay... I'm a hypocrit!
I've always had an MP3 player and after my Creative Zen finally gave up after nearly 6 years I looked around for an alternative. Some friends told me to get an iPod others steered me clear. I finally decided on an Archos and I LOVE that bit of kit and recommend ... ...for everyone and even though there are a lot of people out there that swear that Apple is the best I do think its worth shopping around and see what else there is.
Overall I am happy, I hope I will be just as in a year or so. ...

...of use is your standard apple affair, the clickwheel is present again making it simple to jog through artists, albums and songs..design is also standard apple, the 160gb version being slightly larger than 80gb but still thin enough to pocket nicely at a good weight...one of the greatest feature but also downside is the battery, this thing runs for around 42 hours straight for me in my tests and thats a hell of a lot of music and around 8 hours video ...
