...But not after I saw Archos 605 Wifi. I don’t think it lacks behind any of those two if not better (Please keep reading this review, don’t take a decision). Archos 605 Wifi is designed for elegance per excellence.

...I've owned lots of Archos media players over the last couple of years - starting with the old 300 series, then two 500 series ones, and quite recently the 605 Wifi. If there's one thing I love about it, it's the touch screen. If there's one thing I definitely don't love, it's the attitude the developers behind the firmware - it constantly bugs you to buy things. 'Buy this plugin now!', 'buy the stand so you can connect it to a TV!', 'buy this accessory ... ...a good one.
The Archos 605 is a little harder to use than the older ones, but that's a given since it also has lots more options. It's a handy device, and it's great for recording from your TV, listening to MP3s or using as a dictophone. The internet browser is of somewhat limited use; this is because of two things. ...alternative look no further. The Archos 605 provides a worthy alternative to the I-pod video, although it suffers from a less ergonomic design and is heavier due in part to the hard drive. However where it does better the ipod is it's durability with a rugged case and strong solid build quality feel to the buttons it will be hard to break. The large screen makes viewing a pleasure and the battery is capable, in my experience, of at least 5 hours ... ...really show off what the Archos is capable of coupled with the large screen this makes watching videos whilst commuting or on a long journey viable and pleasurable.
However it is not without it fault,the screen is a decent size but can be hard to see in brighter weather., the chunky design means portability does suffer somewhat in comparison to the other video devices and though ,i am yet to encounter any major problems, i did have a problem with ...

The Archos 605 is a fully functional multi media player that is controlled via touch screen technology enabling the user to play movies, record videos (although an additional bullet camera is required), listen to MP3s, look at photographs, carry out voice recording and browse the internet (with an additional plug in) amongst others.
****Video****
The video quality is very good and perfectly acceptable to watch. It is a vast improvement ... ...given the price of the Archos 604. If using just the audio function I have found that the battery life is quite good and generally lasts up to 15 hours.
****Photo viewer****
It is possible to store and view photos on the Archos. I have yet to find a digital camera which will directly plug in to the Archos to transfer the photos so this must be done via a PC or laptop.
There is the ability to display a slide show which is a nice feature.

The archos 605 wifi has both good points and bad points. Lets start with the good points. The archos 605 wifi is very easy to use. You can choose between using the touch screen interface or the buttons to navigate. It is also very simple to transfer music, videos, pictures e.t.c onto the archos 605 wifi, either through syncing them automatically through windows media player or manually puting them on the archos hard drive. The archos also has very ... ...in speaker. lastly the archos has very large memory and also has a very easy to use internet browser, and is wifi enabled which is very useful. However the archos also has downsides to it. the archos it is very big and chnuky and not very comfortable in your pocket. its also very prone to crashing and freezes quite alot. Possibly the worst thing about the archos is the poor battery life, and the fact that it takes so long for it to charge. The archos ...

The archos 605 WIFI will never act as a dog whistle or allow you to drink a virtual pint, but for the costumer wanting intelligent simplicity in an excellent MP4 player the Achos 605 is for you. The archos 605 WIFI offers several features. It can record from a digital T.V. (which the Ipod cannot), it offers a programe guide to preset recordings, it can play downloaded films, adobe acrobat documents, music and photos either via computer ... ...and view photos. The archos 605 wifi offers all this with an intelligent, user friendly interface, software and web browser, in my opinion much better than the Ipod touch's awkward equivalent. The archos can be operated either by using its excellent touch screen or via buttons for those who are inexperienced touch screen users. Advantages: Great screen quality and size, built in speaker and stand. Disadvantages: The only downside is that it is fragile, and can be hard to get used to the on screen keyboard.
...catching piece, when pulling this Archos out of your pocket in a social environment then you are sure to be asked questions about it. The first thing you may notice is the screen, it is a high resolution screen, 800x480 pixels, 4.3'' TFT LCD touch screen. It is an absolute crystal clear picture and watching movies or viewing pictures is so pleasing when you can see every last detail with out any blur or fuzziness. If watching videos is what you want ... ...buy a DVR Station from Archos or any technology shop or electrical retailer. This device allows you to record live TV be it Sky, Virgin media or terrestrial TV. You can then play the recorded items back on the TV through the DVR station when connected to your TV. It does what it says on the box. It does cost for the extras. A problem I have found with this unit is the very poor wi fi connection. You need to be very close to hot spot to receive a signal. And I mean close. More than a few metres and the signal is lost. Secondly the sound !!! its poor. Even with ear phones the volume is only just adequit. ...

The archos 605 is a very study but now outdated device in additon the latest software sometimes freeze during music playback. It is able to handle some divx files with certain compession formats without the need to buy the plugin.The Archos 605 WiFi's video player is equally polished.
