The Archos Av 420 has a 20gb memory capacity! That's enough to hold over 5000songs. Or listen to a new song every day for the next 13.7years!
The music is synchronised direct to your device, using windows media player and takes on average less than a second a song using the high speed Usb connection. However files from the Internet may not be in the correct file format and so require converting. The converting process takes around 8seconds ...

...in the back and the Archos was slotted in the front with a screen protector on the screen. I took it out and ran it on the mains for a bit to try out the features. The first thing that astonished me was how bright and clear the screen was, it was almost like a PDA with the icons! (although it obviously isn't touch screen) It felt quite heavy to hold which is quite convincing considering the price I payed at the time. It is partly metal making it ... ...Navigating round this particular Archos is very easy and consistant. You move to the appropriate icon with the diamond shaped four-way button and press in the middle one to select it. If you make a mistake, you just press the small button that sticks out to go back.
The playback of recorded video on the in-built screen is almost flawless, with little or no ghosting or blurriness. I think personally that it's as good as any portable dvd player when ...

Advantages: Can be used to replace DVD, MP3 player and VCR Disadvantages: Archos keep bringing out new innovative products to replace these, so it may be outdate soon
...this review I have my Archos scheduled to record a new episode of the Simpsons, I do not even have to move, it will do it all for me.
I have always been a fan of Archos products and this has to be one of the best I have seen so far. Some people may think Archos are out of their depth by releasing such a good product before a lot of its competitors and bundling numerous features to make you think how they fit it all into one little device!
Before ... ...Ipod would have that the Archos would not. That was the way it used MP3 tag information to navigate through songs. I bought an the older model Archos Jukebox and all it gave you was a list of all your files and you had to scroll down to find what you wanted. The new archos has developed their own Ipod like technology called, "ArcLibrary" it allows you to easily navigate through your files by genre, artist, album, year and title.

I recieved the archos AV420 for my 18th birthday, having asked for an Ipod, but my mum found out about these, and I have to say I'm still so chuffed that she bought it for me! I had no idea about what the archos did, so maybe I can give you a brief outline of it, because manufacturers descriptions are so often difficult to decipher!
Basically it is a portable video recorder. It does not have a camera lens, you cannot record videos in that sense, ... ...that is not amazing.
The archos also serves as an MP3 player, it's easy to use and the big screen is great, plus its a colour screen. It is compatible with USB 2.0 and windows media player version 9, but it will work with earlier versions. The only annoying thing I have found with the MP3 side of the archos is that if you do not name the tracks with numbers before the names (01- bla bla) the tracks get automatically organised into alphabetical order, ...

...seems defunct, however, the new archos (av700) seems large and cumbersome. The massive screen just seems impractical for it's portability. If a simple video/music player is what you are looking for then this is the answer. The price has come down a lot recently. The software does seem slow and songs can take a while to load when the harddrive is full. but the information that is displayed is relevant and the sound quality is good. Some features that ...

Advantages: Big screen, TV recording. Loudspeaker Disadvantages: Quite Big
...if you need to get files from your computer but do not have the cable handy. It also provides extra storage which is always handy.
Overall, this PMP is excellent, and I think that the only better PMP is the Archos AV500, which I am now looking to buy. ...
