I've had an argos card since they first bought them out around 8 years ago, as I found having a store card to Argos was very useful, you never know what you might need and if you haven't got the cash for what you need then it could end up being a problem. Having an Argos card give you the ability to purchase more or less anything that you may need to replace in an emergency and is relatively cost effective too. When enrolling for an Argos card, you go through the normal credit procedure to ensure that you are eligible to have a card, depending on your credit history and also to set your credit ... more

The Argos Card...... The Argos Card is a store card where you can purchase items from that store on a buy now pay later type scheme. The scheme ranges from your small purchases where you can have over a months grace to pay off the item or the larger amounts where you can have 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or even a 12-month interest free period on the purchase price. The main reason I when ahead and applied for this card was that we were just moving into our new flat and wanted to buy a large sofa from Argos and agreed we would be better putting the sofa on this card and paying for it in 9 ... more

Nearly every time you go into a national chain store they offer you one of their store cards. Some of them offer good discounts and perks to being a member, and others are just a rip off designed to make you have even more credit in this society that has managed to build up a huge national debt. The Argos card is somewhere in between. I don't generally agree with store cards. They can offer one to anyone over 18 and they regularly do. I think store cards are a bad idea because they are so easy to get and use and thereofre build uphuge debts. Offering them to every person that comes in is wrong ... more

I first took out an Argos card a few years back as a bit of an emergency measure really. My mobile phone had broken and, yes it was that time of the month, a week before payday. Being the impatient person I am I wanted a new one, and I wanted it now! So after having a look through what at the time was quite a thin Argos catalogue, not like today’s one, I saw the details of their Argos card. So I figured that this would be a good idea. After picking the phone I wanted, I can’t remember which one now; I went to the cash desk to apply for the card. The application process was a very simple one ... more

Advantages Advantages Can purchase and pay off items on interest free credit schemes

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very poor customer services

We have held an Argos card for 4 years. We have used it on approximately 4 ocassions during that time. We have used the card to make larger purchases on the interest free credit scheme which has until now worked fairly smoothly. Once we have purchased an item, we pay a small sum every month during the interest free term and then settle the balance. This week however, we had our 'fingers burnt'. Almost a year ago we purchased an item for almost £400 on a 12 month interest free term - for the first few months we paid a small amount every month, we then decided we would ask for Argos vouchers as ... more

Advantages Advantages Buy now, pay later

Disadvantages Disadvantages High APR, terrible online management, terrible phone payments

I wanted a PS3 a while back, but I did't want to pay for it in one go. I was looking for a credit deal that allowed me to buy now, pay later. The type of deal that was around in quite a few stores where you pay no interest if you pay the full amount before a certain date had all but disappeared when I actually wanted it. Most stores said they had stopped doing it now and instead could offer me instalments per month with a stupid APR - not what I wanted. Argos it turns out still does the buy now pay later scheme with no interest if you pay the balance off before the set date. It's not on every ... more

Argos Card= =Where Can I Use the card= The Argos is a store card, basically a credit card, but you can only use it in Argos stores, on online on the Argos Website. =How do I get the card= When you get the card you are pre-set a credit limit, this will be dependent on a lot of factors, and is based on a credit score. =Buy Now Pay Later= There are buy now pay later deals available, generally if you spend over £99 you buy now, pay 3 months later, then £199 which is buy now pay 6 months later, but there are limited special offers that override these promotions, for example presently if you spend ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages high interest charges, misleading information, indifferent customer services

When my cooker gave up the ghost my finances were a little stretched, so an argos card seemed like the perfect solution! "Buy now, pay over 12 months" seemed a good idea! Reading the small print (while trying not to go blind) I thought okay, pay a bit each month, then there wont be too much left to pay at the end of the year! Except that isnt how things turned out! Over 12 months I paid £270 of the balance, but at the end of the year I was £30 short of the total! Low and behold Argos added the interest for the whole purchase price! On calling "card services" I was informed ( by a disinterested ... more

Advantages Advantages We found none. We should have paid outright or got a pay monthly plan from Currys

Disadvantages Disadvantages Incompetent and rude staff, adding random charges and items to our account, harasing and stressful

The Argos card was easy to apply for, and quite convenient. Or so we thought. We were offered 'buy now, pay 12 months later' scheme in September 2008. In February 2009, we started getting letters telling us the full balance was now due. We made a phonecall to Argos and I spoke to a very rude saleswoman who kept rather annoyingly repeating "you would have been told what the scheme was when you first took out the credit, it's not our mistake". After she repeated this, I kid you not, SIX TIMES, I asked to speak to her manager who told us this was an error and they would amend our statement. On ... more

I was looking at buying some new bedroom furniture so me and my partner thought we would get an argos card to spread the cost a little. We succeeded in getting the card and was asked by one of the store workers if we would like to pay by direct debit i said yes she said she would set that up for me in store. i was on a buy now pay 3 months later all was good till i got a letter saying that i had been charged 12 pounds late payment fee and also had 300 pounds taken off ... more
