Nothing At All Like A Greek Dog

Advantages: It sells everything in the whole world.
Disadvantages: You can't see the stuff before you buy it.

...I am referring to is Argos the shop. The obvious downside, as I pointed out in the last paragraph, is that it's nothing at all like a Greek dog. It is, though, a shop of magic and wonder, which should be a consolation to all but the most hard-bitten cynics. Now, I'm going to launch into this epic (see what I did there?) having made a couple of assumptions: 1. You're not stupid. Bit of a risk, this one; I know. I am not going to explain in sombre ...
...you don't already know what Argos is, well, you should be killed. 2. You know how to exercise censorship: if you don't like it, don't read it. If you're offended by swearing, are a right-wing Christian (I'm not at all sure yet how I'll manage to bait the Jesus-lovers in this particular review, but it's worth issuing a blanket warning), care about facts, or are stupid; best not to read on. Do not, do not, do not tell me why I've offended you. I ...

Argos - the shopping experience

Advantages: wide range of products, convenience, speed of service, shop from home
Disadvantages: speed of service, occasionaly limited stock

Argos was formed in 1973, with only 17 stores. It has now expanded to about 650 stores throughout the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Argos is the UK's general retailer of sales with about 3.5 billion last financial year. Argos is owned by GUS (who also own Homebase). They employ over 23,000 people within Argos; this increases dramatically over the Christmas period though. The aim of Argos is in the next 3 years for 95% of the population ...
...and catalogue number to 07786201201. Argos then replies informing you if the item is in stock. If it is, you can reply to reserve the item. The last way to reserve items is in store, either by phoning directly to the store and talking to a member of staff, or using the automated telephone service. The alternative is reserving items actually in person within the store. These reservations can be for a neighbouring store or the one in situ. The reservation ...

Argos.. its latin for value and a british treasure

Advantages: good value, free catalogue, friendly staff, great range, speed of service, check and reserve
Disadvantages: at christmas it gets hectic!!

...when walking into my local Argos store is the colour everywhere. I remember the days when it was grey and red my lord making it more modern has been a right move. From the Catalogue to the Sales Leaflets to the Signs hanging from the ceiling. Its all very eye catching!! The main reason people go to Argos is because they have either seen something they want in the catalogue or they want to go and look in the catalogue. Yet they still put up great ...
...For people who use argos regulary there is a store card, which can be used with interest free months the more months the more you spend. They get deliveries every weekday so stock its constantly rolling in so if you do select an item thats not available you dont normally have to wait long before you can get it. The Speed of Service is usually very good, but obviously if the customer infront of you needs alot of help then it will be longer than ...

Why Shop for it ARGOS it?

Advantages: Exceptional range of products at relatively good value
Disadvantages: Busy times, stores find it difficult to cope, out of stock often

Argos is the largest general-goods retailer in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland with over 700 stores. It's uniqueness is apparent amongst major retailers in the U.K. because simply its method of displaying goods to customers is via a catalogue. Browsing through the Argos catalogue, selecting the items to purchase, paying for the items, and then collecting the items from the in-store collection desk or have the item delivered to their home ...
...Mikomi and many others. Argos began life as the Green Shields Stamps catalogue which rebranded to Argos in 1973. It started with 1000 employees. In 1979 it was bought by BAT for £32million. By 1980, Elizabeth Duke was born, named after the Director's wife, and became the 4th largest jewellery retailer in the UK. Its main feature is the catalogue - everthing it sells is in there. They are published twice a year and in 2006 Argos Home was introduced ...

The gods hath conspired

Advantages: Read on!
Disadvantages: Read on

What is your list of the five things that you plan to avoid at all costs in your life? The Baghdad Marathon maybe, or the selection course for the Marines; perhaps replying to an e-offer of internet dating from Vanessa Feltz, or attending a concert of Black Lace hits sung by a first round reject from X Factor. Life's twists and turns mess up plans and lay at your door experiences that once encountered, only act of God, dire necessity, and the threat ...
...You may have such experiences already. Watching "Wife Swap" might be one, Another may be that last school reunion. For me it is Argos. The gods conspire against me - not only do I not want to go there, ever, ever, ever again, but the gods MAKE me go - there is something that they put into the ether that says "YOU MUST G-O-O-O". And no matter how much I resist it, there I am again, facing inwards and looking as I would look with fear into the jaws ...

Admirable Argos is Skanky No More

Advantages: Too many to mention (see review)
Disadvantages: None to speak of

...cheer myself up! Having an Argos Superstore only minutes away, I went on a bit of a mission – I have that child-like mentality you see; if I decide that I want something, then I have to have it that instant! Out came the trusty Argos catalogue… Now, I remember the days when Argos was seen to be a bit of a bargain shop… a bit cheap and cheerful, if you know what I mean. Well, let me assure you that those days are well and truly gone! With the new ...
...new services – you’re local Argos store may not be quite as you once remembered it to be! Before I did anything else, I measured my room and then proceeded to flick through the catalogue in search of something suitable… I found a number of different options to suit my needs – amazing really, as I’m not so easily pleased! So, on to the first of their wonderful services… RING & RESERVE: If you turn to the back of the catalogue, there is a list of ...

Is the Future Brighter

Advantages: Good value; Availability; Range of products
Disadvantages: Lower quality non-branded items; Notification of delivery

What can I say about Argos that hasn’t been said before? It is this nations (well, the UK’s) shopping institution, but for those who live in faraway lands or are visiting from the planet Zorg here is a brief rundown of what Argos means to the lives of many in this ‘ere nation. (Who are incidentally going to win both the Eurovision Song Contest and the World Cup - in Subuteo, of course). THE ARGOS VISION In the 80’s, long ...
...back. On closer investigation, Argos was a new-fangled idea combined with a traditional one, which brought together high street and catalogue shopping: the idea was borne and here emerged the ‘catalogue shop’. The idea was ingenious. Customers could pick up a store catalogue or browse the catalogue in the shop, chose what they wanted, pay for it and it would be surreptitiously delivered to you within a few minutes from ‘Upstairs’. ...

MY HUNDRETH OPINION...

Advantages: value, selection, bright and airy stores,
Disadvantages: No seating area in "item waiting area" fear of spending to much!

I have been using Argos for a very long time indeed. I like to use Argos because there shops are close to home and products are nearly always in stock. It’s so easy to choose and pay for items at Argos. How to choose and pay for items. I have not used the on line shopping facility but I am sure one exists. To choose and buy items you simply go in your local store, there is tables containing Argos catalogues around the store, which you can ...
...free of charge from any Argos shop. There usually plenty of catalogues in store all of which are very heavy. Each catalogue contains approximately 778 pages! You can see a clear colour picture off all items before you buy but only the sofas etc can you inspect before purchase. The catalogues are brightly coloured and are a pleasure to flick through. Catalogues are up dated every now and then so look at for the new one. Is my product in stock? At ...

Argos - Something For Everyone

Advantages: sells everything, good customer service
Disadvantages: long waiting times for delivery

I can remember going to Argos when I was really young with family members, at Christmas time and when mum and dad where buying new things for the house. It's one of the few shops that I remember from a very early age and find myself shopping in today and will continue to do so in the future. Argos has 690 stores across the UK and Republic of Ireland, and serves over 130 millions customers per year whether it via orders within the stores, across ...
...years we have seen the Argos catalogue, substantially increase in pages, I can remember when it was a pretty thin catalogue which has now tripled in size, offereing many items from many familiar household brands. No matter what you are looking for whether it be a three piece suite of a new bike their is something within the Argos catalogue for everyone. I find Argos extrememly useful for smaller items that I can go in store and pick them up, most ...

ARGOS - NOT AS ANNOYING AS THEIR TV ADS!

Advantages: Quick and easy, no need to carry shopping around the shop
Disadvantages: Queues can be long, no touchy-feely of the goods before purchase

ARGOS - NOT AS ANNOYING AS THEIR TV ADS! (Just HOW annoying are they?!!) The Argos store that this opinion is based on is situated in the Meadows II Shopping Centre in Chelmsford, next door to Blockbuster and Yates, and opposite the rear entrance to the main Meadows car park. * How it works Argos is different from most other stores in that you choose which products you want from a catalogue, queue up to pay for them, and then queue up to collect ...
...convenient time, though I think Argos now deliver free of charge for orders over £100! * Selection, Range & Availability Argos have a fairly wide range of goods. In fact, the best way to describe them would be to say that they are the equivalent of a catalogue in a High Street shop. The Argos catalogue is well known and widely printed, and can be picked up from any Argos store, or browsed online at www.argos.co.uk. The premise is that you browse ...

HAVE ARGOS DROPPED A CLANGER?

Advantages: Value for money, lots to choose from and convenient.
Disadvantages: To many returns, too much damaged stock

...mad ideas. I grabbed the Argos book. When you think about it, thats the convenience of Argos is it not? When I decide out of the blue to buy something new I go straight to the Argos book, if only to get an idea of the variety on offer and the variation in prices. This is really important for me because I have very little time to go from shop to shop comparing prices, but we live on a tight budget and I can't afford to go out and buy the first product ...
...Argos usually has quite a wide price range and that there are usually a lot of different brands to choose from. My Argos book is a really handy tool not only for when I want to buy something, but I very often leave one around as Christmas approaches and then I eavesdrop when the children sit looking at it together. It's a great way to surprise the kids with those little stocking fillers that they didn't think they were going to get. They have a handy ...

Admirable Argos

Advantages: Good range of products, mostly good prices, special offers, can order online, excellent guarantees
Disadvantages: Queues can be long at busy periods, some prices can be beaten elsewhere, can be confusing for people who haven't been there before

...to remember when the earliest Argos stores opened. It was in the mid-70s, when I was a teenager. Argos claim to be the pioneer of catalogue retailers in the UK, and as such they took quite a risk back then: would they be able to compete with ordinary shops, or would people dislike the idea of selecting goods from catalogues without being able to see them first? Thirty years later, just about every town has an Argos, and some of them have Argos 'superstores' ...
...the timing was appropriate, and Argos is as much taken for granted in the British way of life in 2003 as Woolworth's or WH Smith's. * How they function as a shop * I've been to several Argos shops around the country: several in Birmingham, a couple in Sussex, and elsewhere. While they're different sizes, shapes and layouts, the basic principle is the same in them all. There are little shelves with catalogues, pens and order slips. Customers flick ...

My last trip to Argos

Advantages: Good value goods, goods always in stock, good quality
Disadvantages: Poor layout, takes ages to actually get the products, can get very busy

...Argos. My branch of Argos is a nightmare. OK, so it's better than it used to be. It's now a Superstore. Although, personally, to be honest, I'm still trying to find out what's so Super about it. ----The store---- Conveniently located right on the side of town where no-one wants to go, across a very busy street where cars zoom round the corners at speeds to make your eyebrows fall off, and in a building more shabby and unattractive than Billy Connolly ...
...item. ----The products---- Argos do cater for a wide range of tastes. They stock electrical, jewellery, home and garden products ranging from TVs and DVDs to mattresses and foot-spas. Their products aren't that badly priced either, which is probably why people keep returning to the store. Their goods are generally always in stock as well, which may explain why it takes so long for them to get down to the floor level (the stockroom is apparently ...

About Argos --------------- Argos was formed in 1973, and now has over 700 stores nationwide. The Greeks Have a Word For it

Advantages: Possible to reserve items, check stock levels & pay by machine
Disadvantages: No longer the cheapest option, long queues, poor customer service

...to be the cheapest - Argos could be relied upon to have the best prices. They were THE place to go for kids toys at Christmas for example. That is not to say that it wasn't an incredibly stressful experience though - I have suffered some of the longest queues and the most unpleasant and unhelpful (as well as , sorry to say it, downright STUPID) staff in Argos over the years that I have shopped with them. (First purchase - Trivial Pursuit as a Christmas ...
...else. Over the years Argos have made some improvements. Now you can ring and reserve, you can (oh joy!) check stock availability in the shop before attempting to purchase an item - brilliant idea! You can skip the pay queue by using a self service touch screen machine (always a good idea to have as little contact with staff as possible, in my experience). You can even choose online, and have purchases delivered. (Although don't start me on that, ...
