Advantages: stunning visuals particularly partnership between light and sound Disadvantages: so many bugs
ArmA Armed Assault is a soldier simulation and the follow-up to Operation Flashpoint.
ArmA is a very large game centred on an atlantic island that gives you 400 square kilometres of island to explore, 30 different weapons, 30 controllable vehicles, irritating insects and so on.
The game itself, belying these statistics is tragically broken. It's playable and enjoyable on many levels, but constant bugs mean you don't know what level of quality you're ... ...story revolves around what happens when the Kingdom of South Sahrani allows Americans onto its land to help train its military, and the northern Democratic Republic of Sahrani see it as act of aggression. As an American soldier you are deployed to help fight the Democratic Republic of Sahrani. the game is based a lot around stealth. As you move to position yourself on the map so it's not just about pointing the crosshairs at someone's head and firing. ...

Advantages: Graphics, gameplay, community content, developer support, rewarding learning curve. Disadvantages: AI at times, bugs.
As for the first words, there is gold edition out which has the expansion pack and Arma, so get that if you are going to get it.
Arma has a very nice objective. It plans to be a virtual battleground.
No other game really get even close as a whole, so theres no real competitor except for WW2 online, which is without no doubt for more narrow group of people. I could spend half of this review talking about the story, but its irrelevant. Default single ... ...almost could suggest not to play it.. then why buy it?
===PROS===
'''1.Immersion.''' If you can look away from the few faults, you will have the most immersive and realistic war game. As an infantry soldier you will need to learn to take advantage of many tactics just as in real world, or you die faster than you can say "blimey". Stay low, dont stay long in same spot when in firefight, or you will be targeted at. list goes on. '''2.Open for editing.''' ...

Advantages: Loads of guns and equipment, Graphicly Stunning Disadvantages: Need a fast PC, Bug Ridden, not newb friendly, terrible story
ARMA:AA is a Millitary Simulator, it is not like Other FPS's out there, it is a completley unique experiance, not in a good way.
If you have played Operation Flashpoint (a old 1999 War Simulator) this is the same, but if you havent then here is a summary of it.
It has a single player mode and a multiplayer mode
Single Player - It is a basic usual story line like Ghost Recon or Call of Duty, but is just a cheap usual cover story for the game. Despite ... ...choose a small handful of the in the SP mode and the AI are very clever, it took me 2 days to get past the first level.
Multiplayer -
There is a large Online community, all from the Eastern part of the world, it is not newbie friendly, it will shove you straight into the combat, without a clue what to do with too many servers due to the ability to create servers willy nilly you will be faced with thousands of empty servers. You get all the features ...

Advantages: Realistic, nice gameplay Disadvantages: Some Bugs (Patches available fix most), High specs.
This game is not just an FPS, if your looking for a fast paced FPS like doom 3, unreal and such, you should probably look elsewhere. Arma is a combat simulation FPS, this meaning you are in a huge battlefield, movements are far more realistic, and so are ballistics, this meaning most of the time a bad strategy means your dead in one shot.
The possibilities are huge, you can drive hummers, APV's, tanks, boats, chopers and even jet planes. And the ... ...or rather go by foot. No mission forces you to do anything in a specific way.
You also get to manage your squad, with a very easy to use interface. The storyline is quite good, it takes place in a fictional island where the northern island army tries to take over the southern island territory, and you get to stop them as part of a multinacional armed force.
All the units and weapons are based on contemporary warfare, and the game includes an outstanding ...
