Advantages Advantages Good value, professional optician

Disadvantages Disadvantages Basic surroundings, lack of choice

I have worn spectacles since my late thirties, so getting on for twenty years now. My eyesight has increasingly deteriorated and my previous optician told me, a couple of years ago, that I was starting with cataracts. Lovely, yet another bonus of getting old. Except for once I have used Dollond and Aitchison for my eye test and to purchase new glasses. This has mainly been because my only other experience was of Specsavers and two horrendous pairs of specs. These ended up a total waste of money and so I thought I would stick with the tried and tested D and A's. Knowing I was a little overdue ... more

Advantages Advantages Online store and instore to choose from

Disadvantages Disadvantages Instore was very busy because not many Asda's have instore opticians

***Asda opticians*** I have recently switched over to use Asda as my main opticians because I had started to order my contact lenses from the website because in my opinion they are much cheaper than buying them from most the other opticians I have used. I previously shopped instore with Specsavers, I have not had any bad experiences with them apart from the fact my monthly contact lens fee started at £13 and gradually increased to £19 within the space of 1 year, however I had not changed the product so I thought the price increase was a bit too much. Asda online: I found the Asda opticians ... more

Advantages Advantages Price, Appointment times, late night tests

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Service overall.

My eyes are bad, they really are, I'd put off getting an eye test for too long and on my shopping trip to Asda in Cardiff, they were advertising same day appointments so I thought I'd pop in, do the shopping, egst the eyes done, come home and find my husband wasn't really who I thought I was marrying! I trotted along to the optical counter and asked for an eye test, I was offered an appointment for 3 days later. I enquired if, as stated on the board outside, there was appointments available on the day and I was told 'sorry, no, we forgot to change our board', so that was slightly annoying as I ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap. Thorough eye testing, pleasant opticians.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Absolutely everything else. The customer is treated as an inconvenience.

I have been a customer of the Leyton branch for years as it is conveniently located and competitively priced. I've had a number of minor problems, not with the opticians themselves who I think are professional and courteous, but with the counter staff, e.g. orders for contact lenses taken but then apparently not processed so that lenses take weeks to arrive, staff telephoning purportedly to confirm appointment times but then changing them in a message on an answering machine, glasses fitted poorly, general rudeness both to me and other people, in full sight and earshot of everyone else waiting ... more

Advantages Advantages Fair Prices, quick Service, thorough eye test.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None really

For my last two eye tests I have used the opticians at my local Asda store. The reasons for trying them were convenience and pricing. Since ASDA opened their new store in Poole, the flagship Poole Harbour store, we have done most of our shopping there, firstly because it is extremely convenient, I can see the store from my office window, just across Holes Bay from home, secondly becuase they offer much better value than their competitors, Tesco and Sainsburys. To recount my most recent experience with Asda opticians, I dropped my wife off at work on a saturday morning and dropped into asda for ... more

Advantages Advantages Might appear to save you money

Disadvantages Disadvantages No use if you cant wear what you buy........

I was so pleased to find out that Asda were dispensing the lens I required for specs. I have quite bad eyesight, therefore the lens can be very thick. However I was assured by the assistant that the lens could be thinned down the same as the ones I had on from my previous optician. I chose a frame and paid £350. I picked the glasses up and the assistant fitted them for me. They appeared quite tight but I thought it was because they were just new so i persevered with them for a week. I had to go back as they were tight at the legs but falling forward from my face. The optician said that they ... more

Asda Trafford Park. I needed a new pair of glasses - saw a leaflet for asda opticians - 2 pairs for £165. Which is a lot cheaper than I have paid in the past... they are also super thinned. so, eye test... £15, thorough.. appeared as good as traditional opticians. Choice of frames.. good range. Delivery time.. quoted 14 days, actually arrived in 4 days. Only criticism is the finished frames weren't 'fitted' to my ears.... (i have one slightly lower than another) fortunately they are level... but sometimes they do need adjusting - depending on the frames. Anyway.. all in ... more

Asda opticains served me well, I only waited two weeks for an appoitment which suited me. They were on time and the test was very thorough. The advise was good and I chose the frames which was suitable for my varifocal prescription. Because of the complex nature of the prescription it took a little longer to despense. I was called in three weeks and the glasses was ready and waiting. A slight irritation was caused when I was told that the glasses needed to be fitted by the despensing optitian, and she was off that day. But it was explained to ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Asda Opticians by Steff1974 19/07/2008
I went to ASDA in Bolton/Horwich after a terrible experience at Specsavers. The service I received was far in excess of that I have received at any other major optician such as Vision Express, D&A, and Specsavers. The staff are amazing - professional but friendly and very accommodating. They even swapped a pair after I discovered a problem - which was largely down to my bad choice of frame! The deal was also awesome - I got two pairs of designer frames with aspherical high index lenses (they are as thin as the 1.74 lenses I already have! which cost 275GBP ... more
