ASDA Smart Price Baked Beans

Advantages: cheap, good value for money, delicious, free from colours or preservatives
Disadvantages: the packaging is very cheap ALTHOUGH this does mean that they can sell the product cheaply

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ASDA Smart Price Baked Beans ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Beans, beans are good for your heart, the more you eat them the more you....... At home I always used to have Heinz baked beans and loved them but being the poor student that I am now I soon realised that I cant afford them anymore! As I looked at all the different types of baked beans in ASDA I saw their smart price baked beans for just 9p for ...
...that you can spend up to 47p for a tin of baked beans! I was utterly convinced that the beans would taste foul and that I would be able to bear eating them. So I put off trying them until last night when I realised that I had used up all my more expensive tins of baked beans and had no choice but to use the smart price ones! I reluctantly opened the tin, half expecting it to only contain about 5 actual beans (and for them to be horribly mutated!!) ...

Would You Part with Your 13p?

Advantages: Value For Money, No Artificial Colours or Flavours
Disadvantages: Basic Packaging, Often Out Of Stock At My Local Store

...I have decided to review Asda Smartprice Baked Beans (note the misspelling of Pricesmart in the product category) so here goes. The Product & Price The first thing that you need to remember is that these are a no frills product, retailing at just 13p for a 420g tin. This compares with a price of between 41p and 47p for a similar sized tin of HP or Heinz Baked Beans respectfully. The packaging of the product is pretty much in line with the other ...
...above this you find the Asda Smartprice logo which, if you are not familiar with what this looks like then it is probably best described as a bright red squiggle. The reverse of the tin contains information referring to the nutritional information and the ingredients plus a customer satisfaction guarantee, so if you are disappointed with your 13p purchase you can actually take it back and get your money back. Appearance & Taste The tin requires ...

Yum!

Advantages: No nasties, lots of beans, cheap, tasty, quick and easy! And lots more.
Disadvantages: Didn't really find much..boring tin was the worst, but I got over that.

...our weekly shop would be Asda Smartprice. Well, I was ever so pleased, because the bill was over half what it normally comes to, but I was dreading us all loosing so much weight through not eating! The packaging of the beans is very boring- white label with blue writing and red logo for Adsa Smartprice. That is it. No mouthwatering serving suggestions, that tempt you into buying, but at that price, I'm sure that they keep the price down through ...
...can't really complain about the label. I got the impression that anyone walking past thought that you had 40 of the same product in your trolley, as they all look the same. Anyone who cannot read, or isn't English speaking, or shortsighted would majorly struggle. And I will say, however, the tin is also a lot thinner than the bigger brands, again I guess it keeps the costs down but it would damage very easily, and a lot of them on the shelf had clearly ...

Baked Beans - A smartprice, not such a smart taste though!

Advantages: Not bad for 29p, saves you a little money, some people wont notice the difference!
Disadvantages: A little bland, some hard beans, no ring pull on the can.

A can of these beans was purchased for 29p on our latest trip to Asda. The main reason for this purchase was to save money and to try something different (partly for reviewing purposes!). This is an aluminium can (which can be recycled) with a paper label showing the smartprice logo, a plate of beans on toast and the relevant ingredients/nutrional information. The can holds 410g cans of beans which can be cooked in the microwave or in a saucepan ...
...the wattage of your microwave etc). Once opened (no ring pull on these babies!) you are met with standard beans in a very watery looking tomato-ish smelling sauce. Once cooked the smell is slightly better and I couldn't notice much different between the smell of these and Heinz beans (my favourite!). Upon sampling them I was met with one bean that tasted a little hard and overcooked! Overall the taste is not as good as Heinz but isn't inedible either, ...

great baked beans

Advantages: great taste and cheap
Disadvantages: none to me

...hence my review now for asda smart price baked beans. The beans themselves come in a tin with the basic green and white labeling as with all the asda basic range which is a little different from the picture shown above. On opening the can you will see that the beans are quite good quality and have a good amount of them too, the sauce is fairly thick, as for me I find some cheaper brands have really watery sauce which is like eating soup but I was ...
...waste at all. Asda also do these baked beans with sausages in a can that are very nice too and great to have in your cupboard for a quick and easy meal idea when you are rushed. I would highly recommend these baked beans, they are the best value beans I have tried and I will continue to buy these from now on, I can honestly say they are just as good as better branded ones but for more than half the price. Thankyou for reading. ...

We want Beans ................

Advantages: Cheap and tasty
Disadvantages: Packaging is plain looking

We love baked beans in our house. My son, if I'd let him, would eat them for breakfast, lunch, tea and supper. You can therefore understand why eating so many baked beans, I either had to find a cheaper tin than other branded ones, or buy shares in a baked bean manufacturer. Seeming as the latter option was never going to happen, the only other choice I had was to look for an alternative, cheaper brand. When I went to Asda's to do my shopping, I ...
...the Smart Price beans. They were very reasonably priced at 15 pence for a 420g tin. The packaging of the tin is typical of the Smart Price range. The tin has a white label with Asda's written on and the Smart Price logo. The bottom part of the label is red. The back of the label gives you cooking instructions and ingredients. You can either heat these over the hob for three to four minutes, or put them in the microwave for three minutes - stirring ...

What Have They Done?

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Poor Packaging; 1 can has around 90% of GDA Salt

...remember not too long ago Asda Smartprice Baked Beans being great value at 7p per tin. Now the price is up to 17p but look how the recipe has changed:- Beans (45%), Tomato Puree (24%), Water, Sugar, Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Paprika, Flavouring, Onion Powder. They have reduced the beans, increased the Tomato Puree and dropped the Herb and Spice extracts and Glucose-Fructose syrup has appeared on the list of contents. The ...
...afford" product. I called ASDA and asked them why they had changed the Baked Beans recipe so drastically. I got no real reply but was left with the impression that the suppliers of the Smartprice range change fairly regularly [they're doing us a favour and driving down costs] and as long as they meet quality standards the manufacturers can put in pretty much what they like. Whereas I have in the past always liked this product I would now recommend ...

Wind factor unassessed

Advantages: Taste great, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: None

...Sometimes I eat them with Asda 'Pricesmart' fish fingers, other times I eat them with a fried egg dropped on the top of em on toast. I don't buy Asda 'Pricesmart' eggs, I splash out on free range or barn eggs instead. I don't like to think of hens cooped up in little cages. Well, down to the beans: I'm just looking right now at half a tin I put in a container in the fridge and am gonna have for my lunch today. A glimpse of the gloriously texturous ...
...shiney dark orange sauce. They have a comfortable chewing density totally comparable to other baked beans that my friends have fed me. The sauce is sticky without being cloying. Baked beans being known for their gas producing qualities, it is difficult for me to assess the wind factor of these as I eat a lot of other gust producing food and drink lots of beer. But I would think those in search of a 'Blazing Saddles' moment won't be disappointed. ...

OK if your skint

Advantages: Cheap and cheerfull, no additives
Disadvantages: Tastes pants, watery, more sauce than beans

Bought some of these when I was a bit skint but just made me realise how skint I was! For a start I had to find a tin opener, no ring pull! But thats ok for 13p. But the beans were pants. Hard, crunchy and with watered down sauce. Reminded me of a bad experience I once had when I bought a tin of Aldi beans. People are raving about these beans...I guess because they are cheap. Im a bit of a bean connosuior as they form part of my staple diet. They ...

Don't walk on by and buy Heinz!

Advantages: Extremely cheap, tasty, low in fat and sugar, superb taste
Disadvantages: Packaging is plain, but thats a bonus

...low cost brands. Asda beans sell for as little as 13p a tin in stores, and contrary to popular opinion taste as good as Heinz. In fact I tend to prefer them as they are not so packed with salt and sugar! I've eaten them plain on toast, and incorporated them into Chilli Beans etc. They have a wonderful taste and texture. So take a chance, put snobbery aside and try these beans - you will not regret it! ...

smart price beans

Advantages: not like bullets like other cheap beans
Disadvantages: the packaging

...beans down the aisle in asda and wondered if you should try them but often thought they wouldn't be very nice then think again!!. These beans are soft and the sauce they come in tastes lovely and they are just as nice as the branded beans. Even better are the smart price beans with sausages, you get 8 sausages and they are really tastey if you like that sort of thing. They come in a tin with a white and red label stating asda smart price beans ...
