ASDA, THE ONLY TRUE ONE STOP SHOP?

Advantages: Vast Range of Products. Value For Money. Some Stunning (Non-Food) Bargains. George Clothes. Fewer "Trick" Offers.
Disadvantages: Dodgy Trolleys. Huge Check Out Queues.

...In the simplest of terms, ASDA is a nationwide "superstore" chain. My definition of the word "superstore" is as primarily a grocery store, with ancillary departments - clothes, electricals etc, rather like those in a department store. To fully qualify as a superstore in 2006, they will also have to retail petrol. In short a one stop shop if you like. ASDA - Associated Northern Dairies, a good old homespun north of England company yes? Well once upon ...
...4,300 stores worldwide. Whilst ASDA in this country is not THAT powerful, due to well established, larger, competition from Tesco, and to a lesser extent Sainsburys and Morrisons, it is still a big brand on the UK supermarket scene. In terms of grocery sales it is the UK's second largest retailer, following Tesco, with Sainsburys in third place. HOW MANY BRANCHES? ASDA have 293 stores in the UK and employ over 117,000 people. HOW MANY VISITED? ...

It Asda Be Asda For Me

Advantages: Easy on the bank balance
Disadvantages: Transport probably needed

...shopper at my local Doncaster Asda I thought I would take you on a virtual shopping trip, so sit back and enjoy. The Entrance *************** The entrance to my store can get quite hectic in the busy periods of the day, especially rush hour, that's a killer. The reason for this is a badly placed roundabout with too much traffic volume for the width of the road. They really could do with adding another lane to stop the backlog this causes. Car ...
...childs back is supported. Some Asda stores also have trolleys with the little buggys attatched so your child can have a ride whilst you shop, however these trolleys do prove hard too steer. You can even get mini shopping carts so your child has a little trolley, this can help them feel part of the process and keep them quiet. But do keep an eye on what goes in the trolley. They also have a good selection of specially designed trolleys for ease of ...

Why I dumped Asda - A Strangely Difficult Acronym

Advantages: Some things are cheaper. It makes a change from Tesco
Disadvantages: It's dangerous and full of empty shelves. They can't check stock.

...breeding contempt, I started seeing Asda on the side. It is through no small effort that I have persuaded The Boyfriend that we should shop at Asda in recent weeks. He likes routine, to the point where he is a creature of habit. Unfortunately I have no time for this kind of whinging when there are supermarkets to visit. He put on the same T-Shirt he always wears to go shopping, left at the same time (on a Saturday as always) and had to take me to ...
...of our respective grandmothers. This Asda only ever warranted one visit from us, as despite a good selection of fresh fruit and veg, there were no vegetarian items in stock and it was on the small and stinky side. The biggest issue was the lack of car parking. The few spaces available were ones you had to pay up front for and then claim the money back off your shopping. Oh, and they didn't offer. You had to ask, or rather demand. We decided to try ...

...my experiences of shopping in Asda in Swindon, many miles from where I live, but occasionally I like a change from my usual supermarket (waitrose) and so am happy to travel for a different experience. Asda is part of the American Wall mart chain and I have happy memories of browsing the aisles of Wall Mart in Tucson and bagging many bargains, so how does this English alternative shape up? Come with me on a virtual tour to find out! The car park ...

Trolleys ******* There are always plenty of trolleys available at this store even at busy times. I noticed several different types including ones with baby seats and straps, ones that can accommodate a baby car seat and trolleys for those with disabilities. All trolleys have always looked in good, clean condition. The entrance ...

Asda gets me smacking my backside!

Advantages: Cheap; great offers; great prices; great range
Disadvantages: Prices are really low so stock on offer go quick

Asda is our main 'walmart'/ supermarket that we shop at once a month. Our weekly 'top up's are usually done in supermarkets like Tesco, Asda, Aldi Lidl etc...so I can compare Asda to a few of the other main ones in my review. Asda is part of the 'Walmart' family, which is bascially a chain of discount stores worldwide. 'ASDA' is actually as aquisition of the names 'ASquith' and 'DAiry' because Asda was formed by a guy called Peter Asquith, who owned ...
...******** Store info********* Asda is open from 8am till 10pm on weekdays/ saturday and 10am till 4pm on Sundays. Our Asda is a Walmart so it is actualyl open until 12pm on a Monday and 24hrs on Tue - Fri. The main colour that denotes Asda is green. Sainsbury's is orange and Tesco is blue (just for your info). Whereas Tesco and sainsbury use a certain catchphrase to represent their company (Tesco is 'everylittle helps' and Sainsbury is 'try something ...

...mind and wrote one on Asda instead. I HATE SHOPPING !!!!!!! Well, that is not really true. I DID hate shopping until I discovered the beauty of Asda. This is a shop that I can get myself lost in for hours. I know it is quite sad to hear a man saying that he can spend hours in a shop (what am I saying ? My credibility has just flown out the window), but when I go into Asda I cannot resist browsing through the CD`s, magazines, books and household section ...
...decorating and furnishing it). Asda has all that anyone could need in a supermarket. I can remember the days when Asda was just a foodstore (my god, I sounded like my Gran just then), but no more, oh no, Asda have expanded their range to include everything from cartons of milk to authentic Indian cuisine, music CD`s to Playstation games, tin openers to televisions and video`s, video tapes to mobile phones. The list is endless, well, not quite endless ...

Asda "Why Pay More"

Advantages: Local, Good customer service, reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: No Cafe, Small toilet facilities.

...History of Asda~ Asda was originally formed in Leeds in 1949 under the name Associated Dairies and Farm Foods Limited. They later adopted the Asda name in 1965. They were later purchased by American company Wal-Mart on 26/7/1999. They launched their clothing range George in 1990, named after George Davis the founder of Next. They have 243 Superstores nationwide and 37 supermarkets. Their motto is at the moment " Asda, Why pay more". The store ...
...This is unique to Asda and is low priced items for those on a budget, I have tried some of this range and found that the quality is quite good, in fact some items are just as good as many brand names. There are a few acceptions, but I am sure this is the case with most budget ranges. ~ Disabled Access ~ The store is a single storey building, and it has excellent disable access, Wide aisles, wide tills and as everything is on one level great wheelchair ...

It ASDA be ASDA

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

Asda is my main supermarket, being only a 15 minute walk away from my home . There is a Sainsburys nearer, but I don't find them as competitive for price, so Asda it is . The store I am concentrating on in this review is located on Front Street, Arnold, Nottingham The first thing you're going to be wanting to know is how to get there . Now, I'm pretty sure you're not going to be coming from far and wide if you're visiting my local shop , but it can ...
...signposted from main roads, and ASDA itself has a large carpark, which I have rarely ever seen full, except for at christmas . If for any reason it is full, there are a couple of free short-stay car parks in Arnold. Asda itself has both disabled and mother and baby spaces . From the carpark, access to the store is available via steps, two lifts, or a ramp down the side of the building . There are three entrances to this store - a smaller one at the ...

Great store for non food shopping

Advantages: Prices, choice, opening hours, staff
Disadvantages: Painfully slow check outs

I only use Asda for non food shopping, for food I usually use Tesco & on some occasions Sainsbury's. My local Asda (with the Wal-Mart name above the door) is a two storey monster of a store with a matching two storey car park next door. The lower section is dedicated to food & an escalator takes you & your trolley (yes, really!) up to the non food section. This particular store recorded over 170.000 people through its doors in the first week of trading, ...
...non-food items, this is where Asda excels, they sell budget brands & famous brands, something for everyone & very competitively priced too. Looking for a camera, they have unknown budget brands for little money & more famous names like Sony, Nikon or Canon if you want to spend a little more. They have a huge selection of DVDs & CDs for all the family & out price HMV & Virgin music stores. I paid £7.00 for the latest James Bond DVD on the day it ...

Smart price is to good to miss.

Advantages: Cheaper than competitors, very good cheap brand.
Disadvantages: Not all stores are being turned in Walmart stores.

...have shopped at my local Asda store for years as I always found it cheaper the Safeways and Tesco. This could not be more true after the recent takeover of Asda by Walmart. Already prices are being cut on house hold names and their importing products from America which are of equal or better quality to their UK counterparts, and best of all these products tend to be a lot cheaper. At the moment my local store is being expanded so that it can trade ...
...bean price war again. Asda has recently replaced their no frills brand with one called Smart Price and I surprised to say that it is very very good quality. This range goes throughout the store and the products are every bit as good as the recognised brands, and what is even better is that they are a fraction of the price. The smart price products often sell out very quickly and I can only hope that once our new store is fully operational that their ...

refits revealed..

Advantages: Great choice , good value
Disadvantages: Too Americanised now.

ASDA American shopping giant Walmart acquired ASDA through a buyout approximately 4 years ago . Since then it has drastically altered the old ASDA structure into a modern , aggressive and profitable supermarket retailer . This is noticeable with non grocery products , with the new ASDA stocking more electrical items such as TV’s Video’s , hi-fi's etc , (it should also be pointed out here that Asda offer a free 3 year guarantee on all mains electrical ...
...home we have a new Asda Superstore , and this stocks an additional range of baby items as well as the likes of cycles , computer printers and scanners as well as a few monitors , which just goes to prove the point of store size and grading. Grocery wise , it has to be said that ASDA probably offer the widest range of goods , from well known brands , through to their own brand and a value brand ( Smart Price ), with prices to suit all pockets . Asda - a good, down to earth choice

Advantages: Wide variety, roll-back, multi-buy saves.
Disadvantages: Not enough online stores at the moment, no home delivery.

...all why i return to ASDA week after week. First and foremost i am one of the the most important people when i walk through the doors. I am a customer. I have always been greeted by a happy smiling greeter who is always happy to solve any queries and who is often seen surrounded by small children especially when she is giving sweeties away. The latest idea that they have for keeping the children happy is their own very small trolleys so that they ...
...You will find ASDA collegues who are always on hand and very happy to help and offer any advise and if you cant find anything they do not point or say over there but the staff actually take you to the product. I find my local store very bright and cheerful, the organic range has improved a lot and more exotic fruits are being introduced, new lines are appearing every day. One new range in produce is called "Something Special".I find that ASDA sells ...

Advantages: Cheap, nice food, excellent range of goods
Disadvantages: Too many people!!

...on them though. My local Asda in Longwell Green in Bristol is huge, and its where I do most of my shopping, the place itself is massive and a rather tasteful white and green. Open entering the store it seems complete chaos! You're greeted by a huge display of flowers and plants which can leas to a rather unfortunate trolley jam on either side! Then you can either go to the clothing section (more about that later), book section, magazine selection ...
...halfway round the store! Asda do have their own clothing range and its called George and its not half bad, true theres no petite or maternity clothes but a great range of modern and clasic clothes at really good prices. There is also a good range of kids and mens clothes. I often buy my little boys clothes there, jumpers for £4 and t-shirts for £3, etc. Its also really good for school clothes. Moving on, they also have a great entertainment section ...

...Asda? I work near Asda in Park Royal, the armpit of London. Needless to say, that is therefore the branch about which I am writing. I love Ciao, and I am committed to the consumer focus of the site, but I’m not obsessed – I will NOT visit every Asda in the country to contrast and compare for an op! So there. Anyway, I get my lunch from Asda. I get bits and pieces, both for home and for the office from Asda. Now, I could do my weekly ...
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am writing about Asda the store and the shopping ‘experience’. So you’re not going to find out from this op the complete history of shopping, supermarkets, Asda, Park Royal, and those little blue crystals you get in washing powder. I don’t know how many employees Asda has throughout the UK, and frankly, I don’t care. Just so long as one with at least half a dozen brain cells is serving ...
