4 Stars ASDA, THE ONLY TRUE ONE STOP SHOP? Review with images 18/03/2006
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Vast Range of Products. Value For Money. Some Stunning (Non-Food) Bargains. George Clothes. Fewer "Trick" Offers.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dodgy Trolleys. Huge Check Out Queues.

WHO ARE THEY? In the simplest of terms, ASDA is a nationwide "superstore" chain. My definition of the word "superstore" is as primarily a grocery store, with ancillary departments - clothes, electricals etc, rather like those in a department store. To fully qualify as a superstore in 2006, they will also have to retail petrol. In short a one stop shop if you like. ASDA - Associated Northern Dairies, a good old homespun north of England company yes? Well once upon a time, maybe. Now for some years part of the gigantic American Wal-Mart chain which, in the US at least, exercises colossal buying ... more

As I am a very happy and loyal shopper at my local Doncaster Asda I thought I would take you on a virtual shopping trip, so sit back and enjoy. The Entrance *************** The entrance to my store can get quite hectic in the busy periods of the day, especially rush hour, that's a killer. The reason for this is a badly placed roundabout with too much traffic volume for the width of the road. They really could do with adding another lane to stop the backlog this causes. Car Park ************* The carpark to my store is massive, but believe me I have seen it full up at peak times. There are ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's dangerous and full of empty shelves. They can't check stock.

The Boyfriend and I are polar opposites when it comes to supermarket shopping. With analysis, there are reasons I find it such a chore as opposed to passionately loving it like he does: While I patiently sift through the coupons and special offers to find the best deal, he buys anything that takes his fancy from the DVD aisle; While I look for the freshest organic produce and ingredients for lunchboxes and recipes, he scours the donut aisle (squeezing each fresh batch the way I squeeze fruit); I am doing an entire weeks shopping; he is skipping gaily round throwing enough for one - yes, ONE ... more

Advantages Advantages Great prices, helpful staff and wide selection of products

Disadvantages Disadvantages Drivers who abuse the disabled and parent & child parking places !

We are fortunate to have a choice of four different supermarkets within a ten minute drive from where we live, yet we nearly always pick the largest - Asda Walmart Supercenter in Havant, Hampshire. ------------------------------- - About Asda Walmart - ------------------------------- Asda was originally formed by a group of Yorkshire farmers, and became part of the Walmart group in 1999. With over 122,000 employees, it has been voted a "Top 10" UK employer for several years running, and has also been awarded the Nestle Social Commitment Award in 2002. Asda Walmart has also just been announced ... more

This review is based on my experiences of shopping in Asda in Swindon, many miles from where I live, but occasionally I like a change from my usual supermarket (waitrose) and so am happy to travel for a different experience. Asda is part of the American Wall mart chain and I have happy memories of browsing the aisles of Wall Mart in Tucson and bagging many bargains, so how does this English alternative shape up? Come with me on a virtual tour to find out! The car park *********** First things first. There are usually lots of free spaces even at busy times so parking should not be a problem ... more

Hi people, ASDA, ASDA, ASDA. Five days out of seven that's all i see around me for 9 hours of the day, yes that's right you've guessed it, i work in ASDA full time, 38 hours a week, suited and booted in our bright limes. I mainly work in the B.W.S (beers, wines and spirits) department now so I'm the person that unfortunately tells you that we never have the stock in while a good deal at the time is on the booze. I've heard it all from the likes of 'why's it not in?' or better still 'I know there's some out back you just wont get it' i feel like some of these customers are going to put me in A&E ... more

Advantages Advantages good value, great range of products, fantastic customer service

Disadvantages Disadvantages the big warehouse type stores

As you will already know, Asda is a supermarket. It is owned by Wal-Mart which I believe is an American company/chain. In my experience Asda stores are always huge! I have never seen a small store, and of course it needs to be huge in order to house the thousands of products they stock! Asda is not just a food store, they have their own clothing brand named George ( in some areas there are stand alone George stores - they closed ours down which I was very disappointed about ), they have photo printing services, the sell household items, books, kitchenware and some stores have a pharmacy. There ... more

Advantages: Loads of stuff available, good prices Disadvantages: can get busy at christmas time so much so people abandon their shopping I am a huge Asda fan, it's where I do most of my shopping and I know where everything is which makes it easier when dragging 3 kiddies along with you! In my local Asda we have a photo centre, cafe, George, electricals, homewear, toys, bakery, pizzaria, rottisary (chicken place lol), fresh meats counter and all the usual foody aisles plus we have a petrol station, cash machines and bus stop. It's the largest shopping store we have although we do have a Tesco ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap; great offers; great prices; great range

Disadvantages Disadvantages Prices are really low so stock on offer go quick

Asda is our main 'walmart'/ supermarket that we shop at once a month. Our weekly 'top up's are usually done in supermarkets like Tesco, Asda, Aldi Lidl etc...so I can compare Asda to a few of the other main ones in my review. Asda is part of the 'Walmart' family, which is bascially a chain of discount stores worldwide. 'ASDA' is actually as aquisition of the names 'ASquith' and 'DAiry' because Asda was formed by a guy called Peter Asquith, who owned a Butchery and sought a company called 'Associated Dairies' to take over. It is reknown for it's discount prices, both as a grocery supermarket ... more

I was going to write an opinion on geo physics but, since I know absolutely nothing about it, I changed my mind and wrote one on Asda instead. I HATE SHOPPING !!!!!!! Well, that is not really true. I DID hate shopping until I discovered the beauty of Asda. This is a shop that I can get myself lost in for hours. I know it is quite sad to hear a man saying that he can spend hours in a shop (what am I saying ? My credibility has just flown out the window), but when I go into Asda I cannot resist browsing through the CD`s, magazines, books and household section (since I have recently moved into a ... more
