Aston Villa's Holte Army and our own general

Advantages: A club with Incredible History
Disadvantages: At the moment - None!

Aston Villa's Holte Army - with our very own general! I've been an Aston Villa supporter now for many years. I remember the 1982 European Cup final that we won with pride and that is without a doubt our greatest achievement in the modern game. However, Aston Villa comes with a proud and very unique history in English Football, not least the formation of the Football league in 1888, which was the brain child of the Director of Aston Villa, William ...
...end of McGregor's association with Aston Villa he had seen them win the League 6 times and the FA Cup 4 times. A fact that famously led McGregor to say: "For brilliance and, at the same time, for consistency of achievement, for activity in philanthropic enterprise, for astuteness of management and for general alertness, the superiors of Aston Villa cannot be found" Since then, we've had our fair share of upheaval. The main periods of problem have ...

...last four Champions League finals. Aston Villa could well be involved in winning the big trophies in the near future. Martin O'Neil has two European Cup winning medals with Forest and Clough and knows what is required. Now that the two winners have come together with Randy Learners megabucks I feel sure Martin O'Neil will bring back the glory days of unfashionable Forest to the sleeping Midland giant. Get Lost Gregory

Advantages: see text

...do something that will benefit Aston Villa Football Club wield that axe once more, and install a new manager and for me he wont need to look far. The man I want perhaps not touted as a manger as yet, but in the future I believe will become a big name in football management, his name is Paul Merson the man who does nothing wrong for Villa he loves his football he is dedicated to the cause and is a winner, he never gives up and influences many. He ...
...real man has come face to face with the world and told his story that takes guts. He wants to play football all the time and needs his football, management would give him the perfect opportunity to continue his rise from the gutter that he would admit he was in all those years ago. Mr Merson has grown out of those days he has showed everyone you can get up of the floor and have another go, he certainly has, and in my mind should be in the England ...

Mid-table obscurity

Advantages: starting to bring some decent young players through the ranks, decent summer signings
Disadvantages: lack of big name or flair players

As the Premiership season opens, Aston Villa fans can prepare for another season of mid-table obscurity, another season of frustration with neither relegation or a Champions League place a likely scenario. They are widely seen as the most boring team in the English Premiership, quite content to just plod on at their own steady speed, with no genuine ambition to take big strides forward on the park. But it shouldn't be this way for Villa and the fans ...
...a big club. Their fans demand change and they have been quick to get on chairman Doug Ellis' back. Justifiably so. It is the fans who bring revenue into the club, they are the ones who go to Villa Park every second Saturday and support the club by paying vastly inflated prices. They aren't being rewarded by their club because the product on the park does not improve and season after season, Villa are guarnteed a mid-table place. They are a strange ...

LIVING ON PAST GLORIES

Advantages: decent bunch of players, rich club, great fans
Disadvantages: suspect manager, unwilling to spend, living on past glories

Aston Villa fans will loudly proclaim that they are a Great Club – a Big Club – and deserve better than they are getting at the moment. Under Manager John Gregory things started brightly, but in the past 18 months Villa have sunk back into mid table mediocrity, with internal unrest and pleas for Chairman Doug Ellis to unlock the Treasure Chest and SPEND, SPEND, SPEND. But does Gregory know who to spend money on? Is he the right man ...
...am not a Villa fan, have no connections nor allegiances with them at all – so what the hell do I know? But, during the close season, Club captain Gareth Southgate was linked to Chelsea and other clubs as the England international publicly stated that the club ‘lacked ambition’. Central defender Ugo Ehiogh was sold to Middlesborough and has since regained a position in the England set up. The bright shining light for Villa fans came ...

Hopes for the season

Advantages: new players to come in?
Disadvantages: too many un-happy players at the moment

...that nobody is happy at Aston Villa. I believe that if the un-happy players don’t get fixed up with other clubs, then Villa are due for an unhappy season. Even if the players who are un-happy leave, John Gregory has to make some good signings to replace them. The biggest loss will be Gareth Southgate. The latest un-happy player is Ugo Ehiogu, not happy at being told that Sunderland were interested in him. Add that to the other movers and un-happy ...
...I believe that mid-table is the best that Villa can manage in the coming season. Villa have the “hope” of some success through the Inter Toto Cup, but that doesn’t really compare to a push for the Premiership. If things don’t start well for Villa, I can see John Gregory being one of the first managerial casualties of the new Premiership campaign. As for a final position, 11th is the best that I can see them getting. ...

Villa need to spend BIG

Advantages: Skillful midfield and good goalie. Loads of cash.
Disadvantages: The defence and strikers are not very good and Gregory needs to get better

The chairmen is 'Deadly' Doug Ellis has a bootful of dosh. Which he should give to the gaffer who is John Gregory if they want to win the League. Though i think Gregory is a young man but without experience as he came from Wycombe who are in the second division with their new manager Lawrie Sanchez. Ellis though made a good choice in appointing Gregory as he has now improved his skills further but has taken him a long time. And it will take longer ...
...And this a risk Ellis is taking he knows this is going to happen otherwise he would bring a world class manager in now. Two skills that Gregory needs to improve on drastically is that he should keep his mouth to himself and his signings are not exactly great are they. He got in hot water with the chairmen as he said he lives in the past. He then gives him 9 million to spend on a Colombian striker called Juan Angel and only scored a goal since his ...

Boring Boring First Dvision Villa

Advantages: ?????? Ginola ????
Disadvantages: Boring. Selfish. Arrogant. Did I mention BORING?

Living a few roads away from the mighty Villa Park stadium, you would have thought that I was a fanatcial Villa fan but quite truthfully, from being a supporter, I am beginning to see despise the cl0b. Their lack of playing style, greed, poor leadership, a selfish chairman, zero input to the impoversihed community around it, its total arrogance and complete lack of ambition, makes Villa the worst team in the premier league right now. John Gregory, ...
...a very arrogant man, unwilling to listen to his players, putting himself above the team. His players are becoming increasingly frustrated by his poor managamenet and absence of any kind of tactical ability. The chairman has no ambition, trying to earn as much money out of the club, not wanting to better the clubs prospects for fear of losing a penny in the short term. The club claims to be linked with all kinds of superstars, when in reality they ...

Should I stay or Should I go

Advantages: Very good manager and Squad of players
Disadvantages: They all seem to want to leave

...seems to be on every Aston Villa players lips of late. It seems we can hardly go a day, without reading about another Aston Villa player wanting to leave the club, but why is this happening? In my veiw they have a very good and honest manager in John Gregory, even if he is a bit "over the top" sometimes, who can forget his classic quote about Dwight Yorkes departure to Man United, "If I had a gun at the moment he told me, I would have shot him ...

Good start

Advantages: Strength in depth, getting better to watch, well-organised, good distribution. I love 'em, me.
Disadvantages: Tight-fisted chairman with too high expectations, wasting potential (Barry, Ginola)

Firstly, I would like to plead with all Villa fans to leave John Gregory alone. The man (despite a few evident errors in selection) has done well with what little has been made available to him, and this man should not be guiding teams through the 'Inter-Two-bob' cup every season. Since Gregory changed the formation towards the latter end of last season, Villa have become minorly more enjoyable to watch, with the inclusion of more attacking players ...
...as the BBC's coverage of our untimely UEFA cup exit against Varteks showed, even a team with the attacking genius of the two aforementioned players, and David Ginola (yes he actually played that night) can still prove to be as about as interesting and predictably dull as hearing how much dosh Deadly Doug will be placing at Gregory's disposal this season. As for the summer signings, it started okay with the purchase of Hassan Kachloul from Southampton, ...

Dont fancy yours much

Advantages: None.
Disadvantages: So boring.

What an incredibly overrated team. I have seen them on TV several times and they never fail to bore. Their season is in a bit of a lull at the moment according to pundits, but is it really? How much can you expect of this team? You certainly cant expect a top six finish anyway with the current personel that are on board. To start on the pitch things are not quite right. Gregory plays an intensely defensive 352 formation which stifles both themselves ...
...football. They have quite a solid back line which is formed with Gareth Southgate, Alpay and Gareth Barry as the nucleus. With one of Englands most exciting prospects and one of their better defenders plus an established Turkish stopper you wouldnt expect the level of inconsistency that they have shown so far this season. The goalkeeper is David "gaff a minute" James. He is quite highly respected among international circles and on the domestic scene ...

Claret and Blue Army

Advantages: good defence
Disadvantages: lack of players in squad

I have been an Aston Villa fan for 11 years now and although they are going through a rough patch I will stick by them. They have some quality players; their main problem is there are not enough of them. Here is a rundown of the squad David James (1) – Goalkeeper. He has recently asked for a transfer but then changed his mind. When he is concentrating he is world class, when he isn’t he can make a real fool of himself. He came to us ...
...was nicknamed Calamity James. Gareth Southgate (4) – Centre-Half. Well-known for his superb skills of missing penalties. Gareth too is interested in leaving villa as he thinks the club is not good enough, and wants success elsewhere. With Gareth though he will continue to give 100% until the day he goes. Gareth Barry (15) – Centre-half.At only 19 Gareth is a world-class beater. He is strong at the back but I think he is at his best when ...

A sleeping giant. WEN WILL IT AWAKE

Advantages: Family club, well respected, great fans, great history, great stadium
Disadvantages: a stingy chairman, a rubbish playing squad,

...overall in the West Midlands, Aston Villa is far the greatest club in the area, if you don't believe me look at the league table it doesn't lie. Also out of all the teams in the area we made the most money and we are the 20th richiest club in the world due to amount of money we have made.
