    Disadvantages Disadvantages Superficial

In its ever-relentless pursuit of the pink pound, the popular press has spent the last few years trying to publish a credible magazine for gay men. Gay Times has been in production for ever and a day, but has always lacked a trendy image, and has stuck to the basics of politics and classified adverts. Several contenders have come - and gone - but the only magazine that has continued to sell well is Attitude. Published by Northern and Shell plc, Attitude is a glossy monthly magazine that features a selection of articles on fashion, music, relationships and things to do. For all its much-vaunted ... more

    Advantages Advantages It's a gay-oriented magazine

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Ghettoisation.

I buy attitude and Gay Times whenever it comes out (geddit) and they are, in my eyes, very much at opposite ends of the spectrum. Gay Times is very factual and delivers news in a very informative way. I don’t like having to buy gay magazines because it annoys me that most other magazines fail to cater for everyone, but still, it’s nice to grab your magazines, go up to the most stuck-up looking old hag at the counter in WH Smiths and plonk some piece of shocking reading material in front of her nose. What appears to shock her more is that fact I’m not wearing a crop top with ... more

I first bought this magazine when I was 17 years old (about 5 years ago), I have to admit I preferred it to Gay Times, partly due to the fact that the title was not "in your face" but it was entertaining. But in retrospect it is the sort of magazine you would put on a trendy glass habitat coffee table, you would find in a city centre loft apartment next to your copy of Wallpaper. Whereas Gay Times was very Political (not that there is anything wrong with that), it was boring, with contacts and adverts for gay ramblers groups. In my opinion, through time I had kind of gone off it. The old ... more

    Advantages Advantages Ultra Cool

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ocassionaly Bordering on pretentious

As a 17 year old gay guy who doesn't like Steps or Atomic Kitten, Attitude is a magazine that breathes fresh air into the gay magazines market. Attitude is packed full of articles by respectable journalists covering a wide range of contemporary issues both gay and straight-related. As usual there is your normal bevvy of semi-naked men-which is something I'm certainly not complaining about! There are plenty of articles on fashion, music and clubbing with the emphasis on cool, urban man rather than spotty suburbonite. So if you like a magazine that's provokative as well as subtle this is a ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice pictures, easy read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't be left on your coffee table

Attitude was a welcome change and alternative life-style magazine falling in between the staid and less interesting Gay Times and the giveaways found in most gay bars. Somewhere along the line it has come off track and has become almost unbearably light weight and predictable. The reviews are biased and transparently sponsored, How many of their readership can really afford to stay in a £300 a night chi chi boutique hotel in Paris for example. The reviewer obviously got a freebie and even then the review was poorly written. An on off debate about the tacky advertising for porn hot lines and ... more

I recently did work experience in Waterstones Booksellers. In this store there was a typical coffee shop. And, In this coffee shop there was a magazine stand. I was horrified yo see a couple of two year olds looking at attitude magazine. On the front there was a topless male. I am NOT gay myself but I just think that this kind of publication should be a mail order only. It is all said and done that gays have their rights but when it comes down to it I was disgusted. Thankfully I saw them kids pick up a Cartoon Rosie and Jim magazine. Later on that day it was a good job those kids did not pick ... more
