The first thing that struck me with this car was the build quality and feeling of being in a very solid car. Despite being a smaller-sized hatch, this car has a surprisingly large amount of front space and a boot that could swallow whole families. Yes, the rear seats do have less leg room than you would expect in a car of this size, but the front sports seats cause this. In the non-sport ... ...the rear. The boot can comfortably hold three sets of golf clubs and if I collapse one side of the 2/3 split rear seats, six can easliy be squeezed in.
The interior trim is fantastic, despite being three years old, this car doesn't possess a single rattle or knock from any corner or orifice. My model has the black leather trim with front sports seats. The leather hasn't faded in any way that is noticible to me, so either it hasn't, or has faded ...

When purchasing the A3, the other main competitor was the Golf. I am glad that I stuck to my guns and bought an A3. At the time there was not too much between the two, however, now the gap has widened and the A3 passed the test of time, whilst the ... ...market, is a common car, which has lead to higher depreciation values. Also there was the problem with the Golfs security which was featured on TV's watchdog program.
MODIFICATIONS:
I had aftermarket PI suspension kit lowering the car by 30mm. This took the understeer away when taking corners fast. Also it gave it a more aggressive stance without detriment to ride comfort and ground clearance.

This is my 2nd A3, the first was one of the originals back in early 97 and was a real head turner. The original one was on order for 6 months and was only a basic 1.6, though it went well enough if you worked it hard.
My new one is a Kingfisher Blue 1.8T, I didnt replace the other A3 with this one, instead I bought a Golf GTI 1.8T which was unfortunately written off earlier this year (not my fault I must add!!) The A3 is a better car in some areas ... ...are my key points and a rating of each car out of a max of 5:

...liked the look of the Audi A3, but was always a little put off by the price tag, when compared to its rivals, (Golf etc). However after test driving the alfa 146, golf GTI, and the 306, I decided on giving the A3 a go. Boy was I pleased I did. The car, AŁ 1.8t sport had the whole kit on board, leather, air con. sunroof, computer, the lot! The best ride of all the sporty hatches is to be found on the A3, with its sports suspension giving a solid ride, ... ...you could never be anything but impressed with this peice of German engineering.
Only a few faults were to be found on the A3. Leg room in the rear is something to be desired, but only to be expected with a three door hatch. Leg room in the front however is a little more of a necassary requirement. On short journeys, not a problem. I own a Audi A3 and love it. The drive of this vehicle really make you realise that you are not in a less priced manufacturer. The gear box is smooth to use, the engine humms as you guide the acclerator onto the throttle. The comfortable seating position gives you the satisfaction that the car will make the distance to where ever your heart desires.

...the best has been my Audi A3, I can say with authority that it is a far better car than 9/10 other brands of car. It's as simple as that. Every component seem to be of the highest quality, you can tell it's an Audi mainly by its superb braking and its perfect handling. Consumption is high-ish, although that is to be expected from a car that is quite heavy, and it's very good when compared to cars of similar class to it.
The low pints, for me at ... ...might as well be in a Ford, and also how hard and, compared to other cars, uncomfortable the seats are, although they look well made and of good materials. Apart from that, I have to say that attention to detail is everywhere, the electric sunroof in particular is something amazing in this car.
To summarise, I would never look at this car as a status symbol, it is a necessity for someone who needs a really good and reliable car, apart from being ...
