Advantages Advantages Reliability, quality of build, performance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Costly servicing, fuel economy low if pushed

In March of 2004 I purchased a three year old, Y-reg Audi A3 1.8 Turbo-sport three door. The first thing that struck me with this car was the build quality and feeling of being in a very solid car. Despite being a smaller-sized hatch, this car has a surprisingly large amount of front space and a boot that could swallow whole families. Yes, the rear seats do have less leg room than you would expect in a car of this size, but the front sports seats cause this. In the non-sport model, the standard seats do allow for exra legs in the rear. The boot can comfortably hold three sets of golf clubs and ... more

Advantages Advantages Great car, understated looks, performance, prestege

Disadvantages Disadvantages Price, Fuel Economy ( who cares),

After a few years in driving around in lower Litre cars I have finally got to an age where insurance is a bit cheaper so I am able to afford a better more expensive and quicker car. So in march this year I brought an Audi A3 1.8Turbo on a 03 registration, When you think of Audi most people will think of a Prestige brand with great looking cars, reliable, they hold their value well and their dealerships are generally pretty good. At least that's the view that I had of them when I went into the dealership looking at a Used Audi a3, and I was not wrong. I found a beautiful Dolphin Grey Audi A3 ... more

Advantages Advantages Sports - Prestige hatchback for little money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not current model - what will the Joneses say

GENERAL: The car is definitely a looker, the car comes well equipped, and the boot is spacious enough to fit my golf clubs (Not the driver). It cruises effortlessly down the motorway, eats up B roads, and is trouble free around town. I particularly like the climate control, when set to the desired level, maintains the cabin temperature regardless. PROBLEMS: I had 2 years/30K miles relatively trouble free motoring, during which time the only problems that I encountered were a leaking water pump and a faulty window mechanism. I can not speak of Audi customer service because I bought the car ... more

Advantages Advantages Reknowned build quality and reliability, sporty handling.

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's the wife's not mine.

The hunt for the Audi A3 we now own began after we decided the escalating petrol prices were no longer for us. Running a 2.6 V6 tends to get expensive at todays prices. The only replacement to my wifes exceptionally well behaved V6 Vectra had to be an Audi A3. Something small and fun for the adults to drive, but also well behaved, safe and with an air of prestige about it for when the kids are on board. We picked up an 98 (R), one owner, 90k mile with FSH example which could only be described as near immaculate. In stunning silver with 15" 6 spoke light alloy wheels. To drive the car feels as ... more

    Advantages Advantages Performance, Looks, Comfort

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor Speakers, Cramped rear leg room

This is my 2nd A3, the first was one of the originals back in early 97 and was a real head turner. The original one was on order for 6 months and was only a basic 1.6, though it went well enough if you worked it hard. My new one is a Kingfisher Blue 1.8T, I didnt replace the other A3 with this one, instead I bought a Golf GTI 1.8T which was unfortunately written off earlier this year (not my fault I must add!!) The A3 is a better car in some areas than the golf but in others the Golf excelled, here are my key points and a rating of each car out of a max of 5: Handling: Golf: 4 A3: 5 ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very few

I bought the car about 3 months ago to replace my ageing Rover 216. I had a budget of arounf £8000 and was looking for something of quality and I have certainly found it. The car is a 1996 P reg 1.8SE and I paid £7500 from an independant delear (a little overpriced but I got 12 months parts and labour warrenty). I find the car comfortable, with the seat height and steering wheel adjustment allow for a good driving position and being the SE model it has climate controlair conditioning which will (hopefully) prove useful in the summer! One complaint is that, being an early car, the stereo is ... more

Advantages Advantages Its a low cost car and cheap on the road

Disadvantages Disadvantages Its a slower car than most which dosen't seem to shift

This car to me when I first saw it looked like something brought out of the rubbish from Hyundai. But when I got into this car I began to realise what it really had to offer. The Security and the Safety are truely upto standards. It comes with all the usual things to protect the car part from double or dead locks. A disadvantage to the car is the way it shifts, the top speed is great for the car, 125mph. The acceleration seriously makes you feel unimpressed though, it does a 0-62mph in 9.7secs. I was actually suprised due to it being a small car, but the weight seems to let it down. The car is ... more

Advantages Advantages looks good, build quality is excellent, never goes wrong, very good resale value, has class

Disadvantages Disadvantages I can't remember !! - I'm so satisfied by this car

I bought my A3 1.8 SE as a used car on 25k miles from an Audi dealer. From the moment I saw this car I knew I was going to buy it, the paint job was (and still is) faultless. Its true that you should never buy a used car on looks alone, but for this car I'm glad I did. The build quality on this car is really impressive and I could not, and have not , been able to find anything that rattles, doesn't fit, breaks off easy, is poor quality, doesn't work or even needs changing too quickly. I know alot about cars in general including Mercs and BMW's, and I have to say the build quality and materials ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages leg room when your 6'3

I always liked the look of the Audi A3, but was always a little put off by the price tag, when compared to its rivals, (Golf etc). However after test driving the alfa 146, golf GTI, and the 306, I decided on giving the A3 a go. Boy was I pleased I did. The car, A£ 1.8t sport had the whole kit on board, leather, air con. sunroof, computer, the lot! The best ride of all the sporty hatches is to be found on the A3, with its sports suspension giving a solid ride, and its 150bhp engine giving the car good pulling power you could never be anything but impressed with this peice of German engineering ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages View out of back window when reversing not great

I own a Audi A3 and love it. The drive of this vehicle really make you realise that you are not in a less priced manufacturer. The gear box is smooth to use, the engine humms as you guide the acclerator onto the throttle. The comfortable seating position gives you the satisfaction that the car will make the distance to where ever your heart desires. Even though I would go for the 1.9TDI 130bhp version the 1,8T is nothing to be snifted at. This car is very nifty and needs to be driven to be fully appreciated. Drive it and you will love it. The Audi A3 is a very well built car and as excellent ... more
