Auto trader was established some 20 years ago and since then has been a godsend to those looking to buy a second hand car at a bargain price. The Auto trader has a few different “sister” publications such as Bike trader, Truck Trader and Caravan Trader though the Auto trader is the most common of them all. The Auto trader book varies across different regions i.e. the North edition is a lot shorter than the midlands edition though most ... ...Buying and Selling guide.
Auto trader has a buying and selling guide in the Midlands edition. This talks you through the ins and outs of buying and selling your car. This guide helps you decide what car to buy whether it be petrol or diesel whether to go for nearly new or a grey import etc. It will inform you about the registration changes which went ahead in September 2001 a registration identifier which helps you to put a year to a reg for example ...

Advantages: Good regional coverage, photographers come to you Disadvantages: Adverts can be expensive if you choose larger ones!
...advertising stands between the two. Auto Trader is one such publication, and is a name that most people are aware of. The advantage of the Auto Trader is that it is a national company, that publishes various regional editions. This enables the seller to reach more readers than their local area paper would attract, whilst ensuring that most readers are within a reasonable travelling distance.
I’m not entirely sure how many different regions ... ...have combined them.
The Auto Trader contains various sections, which enable the buyer to pin point the type of vehicle they are looking for. These sections include: General cars, sports & performance cars, diesel cars, vans, motorbikes, and even a bargain (under £1000) section, as well as many other categories. The advertisements are a mixture or private and trade, although it should be clearly stated which, at the bottom of the text. All adverts ...

Advantages: Weekly Thousands of vehicles Informative Disadvantages: Not for literary buffs
What constitutes literary enjoyment is very subjective and varies from person to person. Unlike Britain most of the German trains actually run on time and some folk may get enjoyment out of reading the German Railways timetable. Some males may get pleasure out of gazing at scantily dressed young ladies in the pages of Men's magazine and a lot of ladies may enjoy a good "sob" story in a popular Woman's magazine. Many of the members of this web site ... ...of real literary merit. Well the long established British publication, Autotrader,by no stretch of the imagination would claim to excite the literary senses. I guess knowing the price of a 1998 Nissan Micra in good condition in East Anglia is XXX pounds is not rivetting stuff for most of us. Equally being given information on MG TD's for sale in Derbyshire is not going to excite that many of us. All this changes, however, if you want to sell your ...

Advantages: great range of vehicles of all sorts, cheap magazine, buyers guides Disadvantages: black and white on the whole
I have to say that having read various second hand car books and supplements, Autotrader still rules all. They have an unbeaten number of adverts in their publication and the magazine is in depth. It doesnt just include private ad's but also trade ad's and it even has a buyers guide in there as well. The magazine is well seperated into good sections. These include Prestige Motors, Collectors and Classics, Bargains (1000-00 and under), General cars, ... ...with Vans, minibuses, hgv's and also a spot for Motorcycles, caravans and the section at the back includes breakers and salvage and insurance and services. Each section is split into alphabetical brand names so if your looking for anything from an Austin Maestro to an MG F or from a Citroen Berlingo to a Leyland lorry, this is the magazine for you. Also they have an excellent website at www.autotrader.co.uk with a selection of the cars that appear ...

Advantages: good read, interesting, great website, sensible layout Disadvantages: none
I often buy Auto Trader because I like to keep abreast of what is happening in the motor industry and I like to see annoyingly how much my recently purchased new van has dropped in price as soon as I paid top whack for it! The layout of the magazine is very straigtforward and makes sense. It is split up into several sections like cars, classic cars, vans, HGV's and so on. Each of these sections is split alphabetically and goes through each manufacturer ... ...can find almost anything in Autotrader. They have all sorts from the good old British motor days of Austin to a spanking new Korean Daewoo!!. You should also try the Autotrader website because this is a real good website with all the adverts listed and many have colour pictures with them which can give you a fair indication of what condition it is in before you actually go and see it. If your interested in motors then you should try these 2 resources ...

Advantages: Well established, popular magazine for those buying & selling cars Disadvantages: Expensive to advertise in, used as LEAD FODDER by every canvasser in town
...Ad I placed in the Auto Trader
This review is really about my own extreme dissapointment with what little value The Auto Trader seemed to offer me when selling my car
Firstly it needs to be said that I have a couple of dodgy second hand car dealer types as acquaintances so I canvassed their opinions as to the best way to sell my car privately
WITHOUT FAIL, everyone I asked said, "stick it in the Auto Trader" so I had the impression that it should ... ...So, I log onto the Auto trader website and am quite pleased that I can upload my own photos and write my own ad, pay for the ad, edit it etc etc etc with relative simplicity
Your print advert ( The one that appears in the actual magazine ) is limited in the amount of words you can use to describe your vehicle but for your Online version of the ad you can write hundreds upon hundreds of words and include many large digital pictures
I opted for the ...

Advantages: COVERS ALL OF YOUR LOCALITY IN ONE GO Disadvantages: YOUR ADVERT ONE AMONGST MANY FOR SAME PRODUCT
So you've been out and bought the car of your dreams. Well maybe not a Ferrari but something better than what you had. Now you only have one major problem left. HOW TO GET RID OF YOUR OLD CAR. You could hit lucky and advertise for peanuts in your local paper and immediately find a buyer, hoewever, this only normally happens if you are selling something a little special. Many people like me have had to find other options. I have used Autotrader on ... ...line. I have then waited for the magazine to come out and waited and waited and waited. Then I think was the advert entered so I fork out another arm and a leg for a magazine. Yes it is along with another 6 adverts for 6 similar cars in my area, all at varying prices. I have not yet sold a car through autotrader however once you put your advert in you will become very popular with other magazines plying for your business. Unless you are carefull ...

Quick review of Auto Trader
Autotrader should be called "CanvasserTrader". By far, it is the worst most overpriced advertising ripoff in the UK. you are better off sticking an advert on the local notice board than wasting your time with these bunch of muppets. Even with an advert stating "No Canvassers", I received up to 25 calls a day asking "is your car still for sale and we have a large number of people wanting to buy it" ... for a fee that is!
Autotrader is a complete and utter waste of your hard earned cash. My advice is go to a free advert site or advertise locally, as 99% of sales on cars on done within 50 miles of your home address. ...

Advantages: Good clear sections for different car prices Disadvantages: Really small print
Auto Trader is one of the most pointless magazines ever. It isn't that good and there are loads of people selling rubbish cars for twice the price you should. It is also a really expensive ripoff. £3.25 for a magazine which just shows how many people are trying tp con you. The photography is appalling, with the odd exception, but mainly it is rubbish with even some cars with the wrong picture on the ad. The content isn't that good and there are so ...
