The Established Favourite

Advantages: Well written authoritative
Disadvantages: Expensive to buy every week

...just two weekly titles – Autocar and Motor. In the 1980s the two titles merged to become Autocar and Motor before the single word title – Autocar was chosen to be used again. Whilst many things have changed and motoring magazines are now very plentiful and cater for many niches within the general motoring genre the Autocar is maintaining its appeal through these more competitive times. The format has evolved without unnecessary revolutionary changes. ...
...will often have reprinted complementary Autocar road test reports of their cars. This is certainly due to a wide motor industry view that Autocar test reports are thorough and authoritative. Autocar is not however merely about road tests. The latest motoring industry and motor sport news is well covered and as new vehicles are launched there is a short preview of what is to be offered. The magazine is clearly intended for those who are likely to ...

My only essential weekly reading matter.

Advantages: The original, oldest and the best.
Disadvantages: Expensive, tends to be very pro-German marques

...story for another day! Autocar has not only traced the huge strides in the motor industry over the years, but its artistic style, photography and even editorial content have much to say about our changing society. Now well into the 21st century this magazine remains modern and fresh and has kept well abreast of the times. It is certainly a definitive reference material, friends and colleagues who know little, or care little about the cars they ...
...a relevant Autocar road test when they are considering buying a new, or even second hand car. The Autocar road test is still second to none, covering usually a test approaching 1000 miles including performance and handling testing at the UK's premier test track - Millbrook in Bedfordshire. The database at the back of the magazine is very useful as it not only provides list price information on every car on the market (less comprehensive than the ...

A Long Established Weekly

Advantages: Informative. WEll written
Disadvantages: Expensive

...publications to choose from : AutoCar and Motor. Then in the 1980's,these two staples were merged under the auspices of Haymarket Magazines Ltd, as Autorcar. For a weekly magazine Autorcar is enormously popular. Its circulation is around 100,000 and at 2 pounds per copy it is by no means cheap although you do get some 130 odd pages for your money. Autorcar is informative,up to date and very well written. It is well produced, has good photographs and ...
...an interesting cover, a good editorial and a useful index. It publishhes road tests the results of which seem to be highly regarded. Then it has stacks and stacks of news items -news about the motor industry, new models, new sports cars, mergers and closures. There is good coverage of motor sports with news of Formula I, the British Touring Car Championships, Formula 3000 and Rallying. There is also a huge A-Z listing of new and used cars and I guess ...

The planets oldest motoring magazine

Advantages: Up to date news features, good photography, detailed road tests
Disadvantages: Biased towards German products, expensive for a weekly

...I would look elsewhere. Autocar is famed for its detailed road tests & after the news & sport sections they usually use the bulk of the magazine on road tests. They will feature one main road test every week with a handful of smaller ones, usually the first test drive of a new model is featured on the smaller tests & weeks later this will be followed up by a more detailed one. The main road tests are usually 8 pages of incredible detailed information ...
...from. However Autocar is biased towards German products & simply road tests just about every model that Germany Inc produces. I have lost count the number of BMW v Mercedes v Audi road tests they have printed in recent years. It is doubtful if you would ever see a comparison test with Hyundai v Kia v Proton! Hardly a week goes by without a feature of some description on German cars. Despite that it is still a great magazine with good writers, good ...

Regular reader every week for last 4 years

Advantages: accessible, accurate
Disadvantages: sometimes news can be behind rivals.

...the veins syndrome I enjoy AUTOCAR first of all for the simple fact that is comes out weekly. I need a regular fix of car info and this title provides this faultlessly. All information in the mag is concise and accurate where needed (ie stats pages) but the actual articles are written with a passion for cars and motoring that clearly comes across to the reader. Regular features are roadtests where new cars are put through their paces, spy shots ...
...news where all up to date info on special editions and prices are announced. The mags website is also a useful tool for car lovers as it has a wide range of details and pictures of cars old and new. All the advise in the mag and on website is impartial and really gives the impression that the journalists are talented and commited. All in all I would class this magazine as the best motoring magaziner in the UK. ...
