...first thing to say about Aveda is that they make great hair products. The second is just as important and that is that they do so with as little damage to the environment as possible.
When and Where did the company begin?
The company headquarters are in Minneapolis and the founder is Horst Rechelbacher.
Horst had his own hair salon and in 1968 he decided to create a plant based shampoo for his clients. He did this in his own kitchen the first ... ...and laboratory.
In 1978 the Aveda brand was launched.
The ethos to make products from plants not petrochemicals.
They now produce hair care and cometics from organically grown plants and other renewable resources,and keep packaging to a minimum and recycle wherever possible.

Advantages: Pure, natural and with a fabulous aroma Disadvantages: Can be difficult to find in rural areas.
Aveda products are available in most larger towns and cities in the UK now, sometimes in hair & beauty salons but mostly from department stores and internet etc.
Originally a haircare range, using only pure, natural ingredients, the range covers just about everything anyone needs for their beauty regime.
The haircare is in my opinion second to none. The smell, the feel of the hair and the way you can subtly change the colour is wonderful. I have ... ...so smooth and soft.
Aveda make-up is great for those of us who prefer to enhance our natural look rather than apply a heavy 'stage' look. There are lots of lovely natural hues and tones but then there are also a few bright, loud colours to take you into party time. I love the Sepia eye pencil and mascara. The lippies taste really good and keep your lips nice and moist.

Advantages: Gives colour back - and then some. Totally natural looking. Disadvantages: Tip: Remember to wear plastic gloves when applying - even though there are no problems with washing it off.

This product gives my hair wonderful rich red tones which has added warmth to my face and gives a fantastic shine which makes my hair look healthy again.

Advantages: A little goes a long way, not tested on animals, environmentally friendly Disadvantages: the need to educate the family to use less.
Having been a fan of Aveda for quite some time using their Eco friendly specialist shampoos I recently tried their Rosemary and Mint Shampoo. In the past I have tried just about every "high Street" shampoo manufactured and found most of them to dry out my scalp making it flake and giving me a snowstorm problem, Aveda does not do this to me. I never buy shampoo from the normal manufacturers any more as I find they all contain mineral oils and petro ... ...am unable to comment but Aveda do reccommend avoiding contact with eyes, if this product has ever been in my eyes then I didnt notice.
I loved this product and have now been out and purchased the 1 Ltr bottle to add to my collection of "every eventuality" Aveda products. I use a different one for whatever mood I am in but the results from this one mean it will be a regular used item in my bathroom. ...

Aveda products are simply amazing.
This is one of the key brands in my beauty cabinet, who manage to do exactly as they promise.
Take hair detoxifier, for instance. My hair gets greasy quickly, and I sometimes had to wash it every other day, which I found really boring...I tried various other shampoos, from bland Timothei to The Body Shop, medicated Klorane to Panthene, and they all kept leaving the same greasy film behind them.
I bought Hair ... ...I follow whith an Aveda conditionner, then their volumising tonic or Pure Fume shine spray.
Believe me, my hair looks really great now. It is shiny and soft, doesn't feel loaded with heavy products, and can last three full days without needing a wash.
I find most Aveda products work really well, and do as they promise.
Their eco-friendly image is an added attraction, but I'm a bit suspicious of it ( apparently the Body Shop itself is not as caring ...

Aveda products may be expensive but it's a fact that they do last longer- especially the shampoos. They're rich so you do not have to use as much. The range is extremely diverse so it's good to make sure the product you pick meets your needs. Aveda carries the Ayurvedic philosophy and promotes a lifestyle of wellbeing and harmony- I enjoy going to the stores and receiving complimentary stress reliefs.
I would definitely recommend the haircare, I ... ...it loses its health. The aveda hair dye (salon only unfortunately) and shampoos have made a real difference to restoring its fullness and life. The range is unisex which most people do not realise and I've even managed to get my hubby hooked. My fav hair products are Shampure, Colour Conserve and the paddle brush. Another bonus is that if you like a particular shampoo/conditioner you can invest in a litre size which has a pump- I find they easily ...

I use the Shampure and Rosemary Mint conditioner, and have done for a few years now. I've even used it on my hair extensions and they have stayed in great condition.
They're fab products - they smell really lush and leave your hair feeling so soft and looking shiny and in good condition.
They are a bit pricey compared to your usual Pantene and L'oreal products - when I'm broke I save it for the weekend when I'm going out and use cheaper stuff through ... ...difference though after you've used it - my sister always steals mine so I have to hide it in my room! I would definitely recommend this product - the rosemary mint conditioner is amazinf for thin hair (I know from my pre-extension days!) and the Shampure works wonders on just about any hair type. ...

A hairdresser recommended Aveda to help sort out my dry, stressed hair. She recommended Elixir and the Sap Moss range. I've since tried those, as well as some other products. Aveda hair products smell lovely (though the odours are quite unusual) and feel nice to use, though the shampoos don't foam in the way that traditional shampoos do. Aveda makes lots of claims to naturalness - and I'm sure that they're a lot better than most. I just want to warn anyone who's interested, though, that often these kind of companies don't stand up to much scrutiny.
Many labels have long lists of chemical names, some followed by the phrase “derived from …” (some natural substance). This is grossly misleading for consumers who are looking for genuine natural ... ...Sodium Hydroxysultaine are followed by the words “derived from coconut oil” the consumer is led to believe that these synthetic chemicals must somehow be natural. While this may be true in some cases where a natural oil or extract is actually used, it is ultimately irrelevant because what you end up with after the chemical solvent extraction and processing is usually anything but natural or pure. It is just another chemical concoction.
