Advantages Advantages Fast, easy to use, convenient, cheap, provides piece of mind !!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Steam burns - lesson learned !

Ok, so what's the one thing that all parents, especially first time new parents who don't have a clue, worry about all the time? Whether or not the equipment you and your baby use is clean enough or whether it will make the baby ill. The solution? And the one thing a parent should not do without? A steriliser! The Avent Express Microwave Steriliser to be precise. What is the difference between Clean and Sterilised? Clean means that no dirt is visible on the surface whereas sterilised means that harmful bacteria is reduced to a safe level and poses no threat to your baby. Therefore it is ... more

This has to be one of the best baby buys around. I bought my Avent Microwave Steam Steriliser for nothing, zilch, zero! It is in Boots and can be bought with your Advantage card, so two shops when their spend £40 on baby products get 1000 points will get you this for free! I got four 9oz bottles with it, a pair of tongs, and a bottle cleaning brush. This has so many purposes it will go on forever. How i lived without a steriliser I do not know! I used it to sterilise Kayleigh's bottle up to the age of one - yes I know I didn't have to but I found it easy to sterilise them them fussing about ... more

Advantages Advantages Safe, speedy sterilization that’s as easy as 1-2-3.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Steam will burn if cooling time is interrupted.

I was unable to nurse, so I pumped 3-times a day in order to provide breast milk for my son. As a result, I became a full-time pumper and bottle washer! No joke… I was boiling 18 bottles day, until I got my hands on the EXPRESS Microwave Steam Sterilizer by Avent. I know… many of you are shaking your head, and thinking, “What a waste of money.” Well, for me this sterilizer was a godsend. I am NOT a clean freak who sterilizes everything my son touches. I bought the EXPRESS Microwave Steam Sterilizer to save time, and money. After a brief, and horrible stint with stovetop sterilizing, I began to ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gets incredibly hot and is not suitable for everything.

Despite mainly breastfeeding my daughter I decided to express milk so that her father could enjoy feeding her too. I was actually given this steriliser by a friend and previously I had intended to get an ordinary steriliser, thank goodness I didn't. The steriliser consists of a plastic base with a moulded insert to make it easier to fit all your bottles and caps in (providing they are Avent brand of course!). There is a small capacity which you pour 200ml of cold water into which sits underneath this insert. The plastic lid has two clips on opposite sides which are easy to clip on and off ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gets hot .... leave to cool a little

Having just had a new baby a steriliser was on our list of things to get to kit ourselves out. We were looking for something low maintenance and easy to use, so instead of going for one of the big fancy electric sterilisers we went for the Avent Microwave Steriliser The steriliser comes in three parts: 1) The lower casing. This holds the water that will turn into steam to sterilise your baby stuff 2) The inner tray This sits inside the lower casing, and anything to be sterilised sits on this, just above the water level. 3) The upper casing This clips onto the lower casing forming a dome over ... more

Advantages: Quick to use Disadvantages: Can build up with limescale if filtered water not used One of the most important bits of kit I would recommend as a new parent is a good steriliser. You're probably going to use this just as much as you would use the bottles to be fair as all baby food items must be sterilised for at least 6 months in order to kill off any bacteria which may occur from regular washing alone. The baby's immune system needs every little bit of help it can get in those first few months and so steam is a good way of getting the items hot enough without damaging them. We had ... more

Advantages Advantages quick and simple to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages a bit fiddling to arrange stuff in it

My main worry when thinking through all the equipment needed in order to give Scarlett bottles of expressed breast milk was sterilising. I had this paranoid fear that she would come into contact with something not properly sterilised and come down with something awful. To state the obvious its very important to sterilise baby feeding equipment. In their first year of life their immune systems are still fragile and immature meaning that they are very susceptible to picking up bugs. According to www.babycenter.com the bugs that stick to milk curds on partially cleansed bottles can be ... more

When my baby was born I had been intent on breast feeding. I was utterly disappointed when on the 4th day I couldnt manage to feed successfully. This led to me flitting to the local chemist to purchase formula, bottles and steriliser in a hurry. Id advise mums-to-be to buy their equipment before the baby arrives, but I had just been so sure I would manage to breastfeed and hadn't thought about formula feeding at all. Living in a village, the local chemist did not have a huge selection and at £19.99 I picked this steriliser up, thinking that it wasn't a huge amount of money to waste if it wasnt ... more

I have had this steriliser for quite a while and it has been brilliant all round its easy to use and easy to clean and I have found the storing it has been really easy due to the fact that it will fit just nicely in the cupboard in my kitchen. where can you get one from? you can buy them from most baby store and some supermarkets, I bought mine from mothercare for the cheapish price of £10.00. it comes in a box with instructions. some people may say that it is a bit expensive but for what you get its not too bad. what do you get? you get four 9oz bottles along with teats for each bottle and ... more

I bought my Avent Microwave Steriliser at Mothercare for £20.00, before baby was born, along with the Avent Bottles. I intended to breastfeed but knew I'd be expressing milk as well so wanted to be prepared. The unit consists of three parts. The base is a white moulded plastic, which holds the water needed to create the steam. There’s a blue plastic insert designed to take up to four wide bottles and their accessories including teats, lids and rims. Then the top is in a clear plastic which has 2 clips on which to attach to the base. Using the steriliser is easy. The bottles and bits are ... more
