Let's Get Steamin' !!! Review with images

AdvantagesFast, easy to use, convenient, cheap, provides piece of mind !!

DisadvantagesSteam burns - lesson learned !

"...do without? A steriliser! The Avent Express Microwave Steriliser to be precise. What is the difference between Clean and Sterilised? Clean means that no dirt is visible on the surface whereas sterilised means that harmful bacteria is reduced to a safe level and poses no threat to your baby. Therefore it is important to both clean, in hot soapy water, and sterilise equipment thoroughly before and after you use it. What is a Steriliser? A ..." Read review

14 months late, still using as much as ever

AdvantagesQuick, easy to use, can be used to sterlise so many things

DisadvantagesGot burnt by the steam before

"...buys around. I bought my Avent Microwave Steam Steriliser for nothing, zilch, zero! It is in Boots and can be bought with your Advantage card, so two shops when their spend £40 on baby products get 1000 points will get you this for free! I got four 9oz bottles with it, a pair of tongs, and a bottle cleaning brush. This has so many purposes it will go on forever. How i lived without a steriliser I do not know! I used it to sterilise Kayleigh's bottle ..." Read review

Useful! Steamy!

AdvantagesEasy to use, items stay sterile for a day, no chemicals

DisadvantagesBeware of steam burns.

"==Useful! Steamy! Avent Microwave Steriliser== When I was 37 weeks pregnant with our first child, I received a present from a friend of my husband: this Avent microwave bottle steriliser. Clearly she was unaware that I was a die-hard pro-breastfeeding advocate who would never need such a thing. How wrong I was! This steriliser helped preserve our sanity! For various reasons I needed to breastfeed our daughter every 3 hours for the first 6 weeks ..." Read review

Just Nuke it!

AdvantagesSafe, speedy sterilization thatís as easy as 1-2-3.

DisadvantagesSteam will burn if cooling time is interrupted.

"...of bottles, not just the Avent brand. 7-ounces of water will sanitize 4 bottles in 4 minutes. It is approximately the diameter of a small dinner plate, and the height of a standard coffee cup, so, itís fairly compact. The EXPRESS Microwave Steam Sterilizer is lightweight; less than 2 pounds, and it is easy to carry. There is a handle on top of the lid, but it is not recommended for carrying. It is designed for removing the lid only. The following ..." Read review

A real timesaver

AdvantagesQuick and easy to use

DisadvantagesGets incredibly hot and is not suitable for everything.

"...caps in (providing they are Avent brand of course!). There is a small capacity which you pour 200ml of cold water into which sits underneath this insert. The plastic lid has two clips on opposite sides which are easy to clip on and off after a little practice and it has a handle on the top, which isn't the most practical of handles but it's to encourage you not to put your hands round the seal before it cools down. The steriliser really does get hot ..." Read review

"Ping" .... bottles are done

AdvantagesEasy to use, no need to keep checking on it

DisadvantagesGets hot .... leave to cool a little

"...sterilisers we went for the Avent Microwave Steriliser The steriliser comes in three parts: 1) The lower casing. This holds the water that will turn into steam to sterilise your baby stuff 2) The inner tray This sits inside the lower casing, and anything to be sterilised sits on this, just above the water level. 3) The upper casing This clips onto the lower casing forming a dome over the top to condense the steam back into water during ..." Avent Microwave Steam Steriliser

AdvantagesQuick to use

DisadvantagesCan build up with limescale if filtered water not used

"...the end for the Philips Avent Microwave steriliser which has been absolutely fantastic so far. Ours has had a solid four months of use and has stood up to many loads time after time. It only takes 4 mins on full power in the microwave with 200ml of water put in the base. We have found, however, that it is best to put filtered water from a Brita water filter into the steriliser as ours became quite built up with lime scale, which obviously meant more ..." Read review

getting steamed up

Advantagesquick and simple to use

Disadvantagesa bit fiddling to arrange stuff in it

"...equipment in it, not just avent stuff. You can get about four bottles and their accessories in there. Or breast pump parts and one bottle. Its important to position the equipment to allow the best circulation of steam, which means so they don't touch each other and bottles are top down so that they trap the steam. It's a bit fiddly positioning equipment like this and it usually takes me a few goes as things usually move when I slot the lid on. You ..." Read review

A safe choice in every sense.

AdvantagesCheap, Quick, simple to use, easy to travel with

DisadvantagesCan get very hot.

"...can't recommend it highly enough. The Avent steriliser we bought is the version that holds 4 bottles and took 8 minutes in the microwave. This has recently been redesigned and can hold 6 bottles and microwaves in 2 minutes, simply pour 200ml of water into the base. It can even hold two Isis Breast Pumps. There is a conversion chart on the side of the box which will inform you of how many minutes your particular microwave requires. When the ..." Read review

The Easiesy way to Sterilise

AdvantagesEffective and Easy to use

DisadvantagesBulky for Storing

"I bought my Avent Microwave Steriliser at Mothercare for £20.00, before baby was born, along with the Avent Bottles. I intended to breastfeed but knew I'd be expressing milk as well so wanted to be prepared. The unit consists of three parts. The base is a white moulded plastic, which holds the water needed to create the steam. There’s a blue plastic insert designed to take up to four wide bottles and their accessories including teats, ..." Read review

Quick, easy to use, but beware of scalding!!!

AdvantagesQuick to sterilise, can store in microwave, easy to use, plastic so not breakable

DisadvantagesCan be difficult to open and close, beware of scalding when opening

"I bought the Avent microwave steam steriliser from an online website for £18.99 and it was delivered to me free of charge as I had spent over £50 on baby items altogether. The steriliser is lightweight and has several sections - a plastic see-through cover, a white opaque bottom and a blue 'rack' section which sits inside the bottom. It comes boxed along with an instruction leaflet and several accessories - two different sized Avent feeding bottles ..." Read review

Best Baby Buy

AdvantagesEasy to use and quick

DisadvantagesNone

"...friend who has a conventional Avent steriliser and the differences are unbelievable. Firstly, Avent to Avent, the microwave steriliser is actually cheaper than a normal steriliser. It also comes with 4 bottles, teats, bottle brush and teat tongs. Mine was £20. The steriliser is so easy to use. It can hold up to 4 bottles, or a breast pump, and can also be used for weaning equipment (obviously nothing metal can go in). You simply pour in 200ml ..." Read review

steam it!

Advantagesquick, clean and easy way to sterilise babies bottles!

Disadvantagesdoes get very hot!

"I borrowed this steriliser from a friend when she found out that i was planning to cold water sterilise (because it's cheaper and easier) how wrong was I! This is the easiest to use invention i have ever known - all you do is wash your bottles and scrub your teats (as normal) place them in the steriliser (can only do 4 at a time though!) with 7oz (approx 200ml) of cold tap water, snap on the lid and microwave for between 5-7 minutes depending on ..." A godsend

Advantagesquick, economical, easy to use, no chemicals

DisadvantagesNone

"...me, so I bought the Avent Steam Sterilser. It's great! When I bought mine, there were also four full size bottles included. You just wash the bottles as normal, pop them in the steriliser with abottle of water, and pop them in the microwave for 8 minutes. Job done! The only problem is that you have to leave them for 10 minutes or so to coole down, otherwise you end up with burnt fingers when you try to take them out. There are no chemicals involved, ..."
