Casualty is a barometer of the NHS

Advantages: Great cast, great scrptwriting
Disadvantages: Is it propaganda

The NHS is dying; Max, for god's sake, get it into resus. No room? There must be room - this is the nation's saviour, the flagship that Britain hangs on to, and the stalwart paragon of great British socialism. But Max we must save it. Casualty is the BBC's own grown hospital drama. These days however it is more to do with political drama, than hospital drama. After watching another gruelling episode of death, stress and caring, I can only come to ...
...a New Labour advertising tool. Tonight Casualty was bought to its knees. Corridors had become full and Casualty could no longer cope with the flotsam and jetsam of Britain's health service. All very dramatic and harrowing, and Max had to close Casualty. The coincidence is all too apparent. On Wednesday next is Gordon Brown's awaited budget. The budget that, he has promised, will outline his prescription for saving the NHS. A prescription that many ...

oooh Matron

Disadvantages: Don't eat while you watch it!

...a long-running TV drama on BBC1 in the 'traditional' time slot of 8pm-ish on Saturday evening. I've been pretty much an avid viewer since it began, oooh, I'm guessing at about ten years ago. Set in the Accident and Emergency department of fictional Holby City Hospital, it details the trials and tribulations of both staff and patients. Throughout this time it has certainly had its peaks and troughs as far as storylines and characters go but it seems ...
...I remember back in the first few episodes Nurse Duffin/Duffy (played by Cathy Shipton) had a most peculiar and unconvincing West Country accent which mysteriously disappeared after the first series! And I still miss nurse Megan (Brenda Fricker) sorely - but she has moved on to better and bigger roles in the film world! Seemingly a lot of now well-known stars, such as Robson Green (Soldier, Soldier etc), cut their teeth in this quality drama - he ...

...down and tune in to BBC1 on a Saturday night and the chances are that you’ll be watching one of their most popular TV series. Casualty is set in the fictional town of Holby (Hence the name of it’s now sister programme ‘Holby city’). The programme revolves around the lives; love’s and works of a group of workers in Holby city’s A & E department. Quality medical drama

Advantages: Good new and old characters, quality drama.
Disadvantages: Occasionally weak plots and can be over dramatic.

This programme seems to have been on forever but that's not to say that it has gone on too long. Casualty is the perfect Saturday evening drama series, the storylines are realistic and full of suspense and all the actors play their parts brilliantly. Some of the characters have been around for years like Charlie Fairhead and Duffy but Casualty's strength is that they continually introduce new members of staff with different personalities and problems ...
...additions is Patrick played by ex Emmerdale actor Ian Kelsey. Compared to his character in Emmerdale Kelsey is a revelation and proves that there is life after soaps. Patrick is the person we all love to hate with his poor attitude to both patients and staff but as his character has developed he has shown he is not always Mr Nasty and underneath the surface there's probably a nice guy trying to get out. A special mention should go to the make up ...

Medicine and Morals

Advantages: The above
Disadvantages: None

Casualty, the Beebs long running medical drama series, is set at Holby General Hospital. It follows the day to day events of an Accident and Emergency department. Doctors and nurses battling to save lives. A little blood and gore. What I have written so far amounts to nothing less than doing a severe injustice to a program which stands out as one of the BBC's best productions. It is true to say that Casualty is a medical drama. It is true to say ...
...Patients admitted to the department recieve medical attention from the doctors and nurses. But, the ultimate goal of saving lives is perhaps just a theme for the underlying social and moral issues that are dealt with. Each episode of Casualty unfolds into a number of individual stories. The beginning of each program introduces the characters who will, for whatever reason, end up in need of care. The focus on each person gives an insight into their ...

Funky theme music

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

It used to be that the only time I'd watch Casualty was when I had nothing else better to do on a boring Saturday night, but now I'm absolutely hooked and wouldn't miss it for the world! The programme is set at Holby general hospital and charts the highs and lows of the nurses and doctors who work there. It's dramatic and full of tension. You know something's going to happen to the extras, but the beauty of it is you never quite know what. In the ...

Casualty

Advantages: The best hospital drama.
Disadvantages: Can be a bit gory sometimes.

Casualty is a excellent Saturday evening drama on the BBC. It has been going for many years now, but it has not lost any of its original appeal. It deals with the Casualty dept. of Holby City Hospital, concentrating on both the medical and personal aspects of the patients lives. It also focuses on the private lives of the staff, giving a completely different slant on the show, rather than just the doom and gloom of sickness and death. Casualty is ...
...but maybe I feel like this because I have come to know the characters of Holby City Hospital well over the years. But it is great viewing for anyone who likes hospital dramas. The only thing about Casualty is that sometimes it can be a little gory - but major credit to the make-up team at the BBC who make it look so real. ...

Isn't Charlie annoying?

Advantages: Always the same...
Disadvantages: Always the same....!

I've watched Casualty off and on since it started. More often than not, I switch off or over after 20 minutes, annoyed with myself that I have started watching. Every episode is the same. This is real formula stuff. It goes like this. In first 15 minutes, introduce three separate plot lines. One involves a kid that'll die, one involves somebody who will be an improbable her, and one involves somebody who should die, but will be saved by the Casualty ...
...political message (poor funding for the NHS, usually); a social comment (not all gays are perverted - or such like) and a romance (doctor and nurse, doctor and patient, 2 gay nurses etc). There are also hugely implausible plots such as: ambulance driver turns up at own house to find wife and kids all burnt to death; bombs exploding in the ward; mass shootings in the ward; fatal stabbings of nurses; airplane crashes etc etc and I've only watched half ...

Nurse! The Screens...

Advantages: Spot the minor celebrity patient
Disadvantages: Too much playing Doctors and Nurses

I have watched Casualty on and off for years, although it is more off than on these days. I used to watch it with my friend Mim, fag in one hand, whiskey in the other, feet up, excellent. The best bit about it was playing guess the injury. We used to shout out what was going to happen to the characters as they came on at the beginning of the show. "Electrocution" "No, car accident" "no, he's going to have a heart attack" We had great fun doing that. ...

Bloodshed

Advantages: good plots
Disadvantages: close up of the needle going into the veiw Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Casulty has been one of the consistantly good programms on the box not outstanding but good, I think these days they over indulge in the characters in the hospital staff's private lives too much I think they should revert to the old formula of building up to a big disaster and then the big patch up. I think putting it on Saturday at 8 O'clock is a mistake aswell it never seems to fit and that is going out time for most people anyway they should put ...

Still great

Advantages: Great storylines
Disadvantages: Not good if you are squeamish

I have watched Casualty for such a long time, I have practically grown up watching it. It had even turned into a saturday night tradition to watch Casualty on BBC one. It has been going for I think about ten years now and it is still really good. With most television programmes after a while the novelty of a new series goes and it gets quite boring and so no one watches it any longer. Casualty however has still got as interesting storylines with ...

Advantages: realistic and can be gritty at times
Disadvantages: you feel as if you know whats going to happen again!

I used to really enjoy watching Casualty compared to other saturday night programmes Casualty was watchable and well produced. After 10 years or so its looking abit tired and samey. It seems to have lost its way. At first casualty had a very good way of putting across health education messages subtley now it doesnt seem to bother at all. It used to be a very gritty programme which portrayed accidents well and the care in the Casualty dept was on ...

Always good

Advantages: excellent viewing
Disadvantages: none

Casualty is a very well scripted TV series. The storylines are always brilliant, whether they involve casulties on the ward of Holby City or the actual personal lives of the staff. The characters are very good indeed and its fairly realistic, sometimes though I do tend to think the accident and emergency department must be one of the busiest I've ever seen, but I'm sure the portrayal of the staff being over worked and stressed out is very realistic ...

After Many Years still going Strong

Advantages: Great program
Disadvantages: none

Casualty has now been along for so long I have lost track of when it first started. However, where a lot of programs tend to fade as they get older, Casulaty is not one of them. Casualty remains to be a superb program. As a drama in my opinion Casualty remains to be un-beaten as a regular series. The acting in the program is done extremely well by the cast which is part of what makes Casualty what it is. They reguarly call in known actors to play ...
