Advantages Advantages Light hearted drama to brighten dreary Sunday evenings

Disadvantages Disadvantages The series is over at present and not back on until Autumn

Monarch of the Glen is set in the fictious area of Scotland known as Glenbogle, and the story line centres around the life of the new Laird Archie, who took over when his father retired. It is generally an upbeat programme, featuring various madcap schemes (usually involving the new Lairds father) or disasters with the occasional serious plots thrown in. Archie has come from London and has had problems adjusting to the rural life and running a Scottish estate that is guzzling money. The poor guy has lost his fiance who could not come to terms with life as a Lairds wife - too remote and no ... more

It is about a castle which is basically in financial ruin. Its owner, Hector Natahn Macdonald, is one dotty old man, played by the delightful Richard Briers. His wife Molly, played by Susan Hampshire, together they make a wonderful acting couple to watch. they need money, their youngest son Archie who has just returned, begins to get the castle back together again, along with the help of their trusty and loyal servants. Advantages Advantages funny, gentle, good characters

    Disadvantages Disadvantages episodic, bit predictable

The BBC's sunday night drama Monarch of the Glen has now been running for 4 series and a new one is due this autumn. It can't come too soon for the hundreds of Monarch fans who have fallen in love with this gentle, humorous programme. Monarch is set in Scotland, at a big house (well in fact more of a castle really!) called Glenbogle. Many of the storylines revolve around the financial difficulties in keeping Glenbogle going which are faced by the young laird, Archie, played by the pretty gorgeous Alastair Mackenzie (his mother is played by Susan Hampshire, who is excellent). However there are ... more

    Advantages Advantages Original, great locations

Disadvantages Disadvantages not on every day!

I think this drama is great - and Archie is sooo nice looking. The scenery is fantastic and the house is amazing - I love to see the Highland countryside in all its glory. The characters are funny, Duncan the hopeless would-be ranger, Lexie the trendy cook...Susan Hampshire and Richard Briers are brilliant, experienced actors with impeccable timing and the story lines are original - something pretty unusual in tv drama these days. I tune in every week and am just gutted that there isn't a new series until the autumn. Thank goodness Archie has finally done something about getting his girl ... more
