    Disadvantages Disadvantages ... but not sexy enough for some?

    Five million viewers can’t be wrong! Tipping the Velvet, Andrew Davies’ adaptation of Sarah Waters’ Victorian lesbian romp, has actually trumped The Office in the ratings. The advance publicity for this drama was simply phenomenal – pretty much every newspaper and entertainment mag had profiled the writer, or one of the cast, in the weeks preceding it’s tv premiere.     Continuing my trawl throw the world of television, I come secondly to (strangely) channel number two, that’s BBC Two for those of you who don’t have a TV. But then, if you had no TV, but had a PC you’d be pretty strange. Anywho, BBC Two it is then. Despite existing on the screens of four nations for almost 40 years, BBC Two is still seen as the alternative channel.     I don't have cable, satellite, virtual reality or home cinema, but I do have my Goodmans TV and the five terrestrial channels, and of the five on offer , BBC2 shines most brightly. First, TV is essentially a massive waste of time. It is an almost entirely passive experiance and more people spend more time watching it than any other activity. So, bearing this in mind, I don't watch a great deal of TV (just the average 10 to 15 hours a day) and like to view selectively. I want a channel that stimulates me intellectually, challenges me morally, stirs me emotionally and doesn't wear me out ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages treats sci-fi shows badly!

    Not really about BBC2 but BBc in general. Why do they treat sci-fi fans as a minority? I mean loads of people like to watch sci-fi yet the BBc acts like they don't matter. Whenever sport comes along its always sci-fi that is removed yet in the world cup Eastenders was still shown when the footie was on! We aren't all satisfied with Star Trek repeats, we need to see something new! It can't be lack of budget, I mean they payed loads for footie didn't they? For the moment they treat Farscape well but how long befire it, like all others before it is put aside and then only those with Sky will get ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Well its BBC2, Open University programmes at 2 in the morning

    The whole country is currently going crazy over a woman who 12 months ago you wouldn’t have looked twice at. She’s not a sexy symbol (by any means!), not a film star (yet), but may someday hopefully have grand illusions of power (i.e. running the country!). She is of course Ann Robinson. I know that the Welsh people reading this review will currently be wiping spit from their computer screens, but I promise you that she didn’t mean it, so please forgive her, for the sake of the country!     Advantages Advantages 2 great shows Top Gear This Life

    Disadvantages Disadvantages heavy on education so can be boring

    bbc2 is for more education programs and many go through the night including open university, but two of its best programs to date are the motoring magazine show top gear and the sort of soap opera come drama This Life. Top gear just test drives all the latest cars by wheel spining them, handbrake turns and doughnuting them and is very good now that they have finally got rid of the arrogant and snobbish presenters like Jermey Clarkson and Quentin Wilson. This Life was a drama about some lawyers sharing a house and was absoulutly the best television I have seen for ages. Only 2 series were made ... more

    Advantages Advantages Some good programmes, funny comedy zone

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Comedy zone in decline, boring, black & white films

    BBC 1 & 2 share between them the best programes shown on terrestrial television, but you would expect this due to the £70 - £80 we pay for our licensing fee. The big advantage with the BBC is the omission of adverts on this channel. Channel 4 shows absolutely rubbish programmes with the exception of a minute minority. I do class BBC 1 as the best channel followed closely by BBC 2. However, my opinion of BBC 2 has taken a steep decline following the constant changing for the worse of the Friday Night Comedy Zone which I used to enjoy immensely.     The best thing, it seems, about BBC2, is the weeknight 6pm-> slot. Buffy, Star Trek, Fresh Prince etc. serve to entertain those who don't want to be informed on BBC1 or soaped on ITV. C4 opened some serious competition to lame rerereruns of Star Trek, in the portly shape of Family Guy, but the lack of ads on BBC remains a major advantage. Aside from this, BBC2 continues to show entertaining programmes for those of us who despise the national lottery or game shows, or anything involving Dale Winton. The only bugbear is the unpleasant summer tendency to shift schedules to accomodate sport. No ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good range of programmes.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not much at all.

    British Broadcasting Corperation 2, is by far better than Brit Broad Corp 1, which is full of cookery and interior design programmes, which hog daytime AND NOW evening as well. Not good. Thank heavens for BBC 2, with its great comedys and films (the 70's nights are great for films, I wonder whats on today...) and some very good documentarys and educational programmes. The range is very good, and we even get the marvoulous Simpsons on it as well. This is what BBC one should be more like, so take heed One, and be more like your brother.     Advantages Advantages Simpsons, Roswell High, Buffy, Outer Limits

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Boring!!!! :-P

    This channel is only interesting if you're an old aged pensioner. The only good programs are prog's like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Simpsons, The Outer Limits, and Roswell High. What has always intrigued me is the fact that all of the educational programs are on early, very early like 2 o'clock am, and most students are in bed dreaming at that time!!!! And also, not everyone owns a VCR!!!! I think that they should show more comedy programs like Never Mind The Buzzcocks and The Fitz. Buck up your ides folks or else you're gonna lose all of your viewers. Even the pensioners!!!! >=O( =OP ... more
