...a channel produced by the BBC for preschool children. It is quite a new channel, opening its doors so to speak in February 2002 on both sky and freeview with a short appearance in the afternoons and mornings on BBC1 and BBC2. The channel itself has been nominated and also won many awards which before even viewing the channel, gives the parent some high hopes. Advantages: Good quality preschool children's programmes Disadvantages: Can get repetitive
...“My Beebies” refers to the BBC preschool channel CBeebies which can be found on digital television. I do limit Jacob’s TV time generally and he isn’t a child who is happy to be sat glued to the telly for hours on end – he’s far too busy causing other kinds of mayhem. But the CBeebies channel can be found turned on in our living room at some point most days of the week.

Most of the programmes are also well-known on terrestrial telly as they are often shown on the CBeebies slot on BBC2.
Some of Jacob’s favourites include Balamory, Tikkabilla, Smarteenies, Bob The Builder, Tweenies and Fimbles. There are a variety of “real people” (Balamory, Tikkabilla), “skin characters” (Tweenies, Fimbles, Teletubbies) and cartoon ...

...particularly like it when the BBC runs its Springwatch and Autumnwatch programmes that Cbeebies also run programmes on the same theme and even get Bill Oddie making a guest appearance!
The final programme that I want to mention is the rather tranquil but surreal In The Night Garden. This is pretty much the last programme shown just before Cbeebies shuts down at 7 pm and it really does have a calming effect on my two girls. They also see it as a ... ...because it is part of BBC programming there are NO adverts! It's one of my nightmares when they start seeing all the adverts for toys on Channel 5 and telling me what they want. So from a parent's point of view this is a real plus!
Overall, I am very impressed with the Cbeebies Channel and I don't think there is any programme I would feel unhappy about my girls watching. I think the programming is well thought out and very suitable for young children ...

Advantages: Great programmes, on at the right times, British, educational Disadvantages: None
Well, who better than my six year old daughter, Viktoria, to review one of our household’s favourite TV channels, CBeebies? This has often saved my sanity, got Viki out of her regular tantrums (She has Oppositional Defiance Disorder) and given me a few minutes’ much welcome peace and quiet.
On from 6am until 7pm, it fits in perfectly with little ones waking up and going to bed. The programmes are British, well made and almost always ... ...your kids vegetate in front of the TV all day every day, when you do let them, you can be reassured they are watching something decent. No cheesy American singing dinosaurs here or puppets declaring the alphabet ends in ‘zee’.
While Viki was initially unsure what to tell me about each programme, she soon got into the swing of it and especially enjoyed seeing me typing ten to the dozen, trying to get all her jumbled thoughts down in time. ...

...new channel CBBC it replaces BBC Choice’s daytime children’s programmes. CBBC is aimed at approximately 6 to 13 year olds and CBeebies is for children up to about 6 years of age. You may have seen the advertisements for CBeebies, during the evenings on BBC1, with the three yellow blobs that bounce around the screen before turning into a circle, triangle and square.

However if during holidays they do catch something twice it’s not necessarily a bad thing as children learn from repetition and sometimes like to know what’s coming next.
I will now give a brief description of each of the programmes, to give you an idea of what to ...

If the BBC could come up with a few more varied episodes that would be great but overall I would have to say a great channel with something for all ages of children and even me at times lol.(Did I just admit that). The best time for CBeebies is 7pm when the nightime song is played and dad's programmes get to go on.

...CBBC has taken over from BBC Choice in the daytime and has been broadcasting since early February 2002. You can get it on Cable TV, ITV Digital and Sky Digital and it is one of the free stations you can get with any basic package you might have.
You do tend to get a lot of the programmes repeated during the day and by the time 7 o’clock arrives (when the station shuts down) you will be fully aware of just what Jake is whining about on that ... ...well. You will have seen them often enough.
The programmes I – as an adult – do not mind sitting through are the above mentioned, particularly The Story Maker.

I got pregnant and had all these ideas... My child would only drink water, my child wouldn't watch much tv.... Hmmmm.
At about 4 weeks old we discovered Cbeebies (available on Sky, cable and freeview). It is the preschool channel from BBC. Full of lots of different 20 minute programmes aimed at little people (preschool). She loved all the colours and songs!
It has some great programmes - Balamory, all about a scottish island, and the bizzare people ... ...Fimbles (my personal favourite) - kind of like Teletubbies, but much more loveable, and they speak in whole sentences, the find something new each day, and learn about it. Big Cook, Little Cook - a fun cooking show, meant to be watched with mummy, and then get creative in the kitchen. Tikkabilla - modern day playschool, Storymakers - set in a library, its really just people reading stories, and keeps my one year old mesmerised! Then all the normals ...

Advantages: lots of programmes Disadvantages: you can't choose what they watch and the adverts
I am one of those horrible mums that doesn't let her boys watch television all day and I believe more in interacting with your children rather than letting the TV educate them. However there are occasions that I call on the 'trusty' cast of the Cbeebies channel to entertain and educate my boys for half an hour whilst I prepare the tea. The Cbeebies channel is aimed at children up to the age of four years old and plays a range of programmes that are ... ...and activity based shows that encourage the watcher to participate. The channel runs continuously throughout the day but there are a lot of adverts which can be annoying especially when you two year old wants just about every toy that appears on screen. I usually solve this problem by letting the boys watch it on Cbeebies. At least this way I can choose which programme to put on for them and they can't see all of the rubbish that is shown in between. ...

Having three children under 4, i am very grateful for any peace and quiet in my household, or at least somthing to distract my 3 year old and 18 months old from wrecking the house once again, by pulling out the stacks of toys they own but not actually playing with them.

Cbeebies is a great concept for a channel. Available on Freeview as well as cable and satellite, this free channel features commercial advertisement free programming. The programmes are all designed for ages 2-6 years of age, and have an educational slant of varying obviousness to them. The programming is basically split into two halves, obviously designed around preschool and nursery. By this I mean that the morning airs certain staple programmes, and the same episode or programme is repeated in the afternoon. This is not true of all shows, however, so it is handy to have a recording device to make sure your child does not miss ...

The CBeebies channel is available through digital or satellite TV. It can be found on digital TV channel 71 or on satellite channel 614. It is on from 6.30 in the morning to 7 in the evening. The channel is primarily for pre-school children and has programmes according to this.
There are four main presenters on the channel and they are Andy, (who does the Get set go part of the channel which is on first thing in the morning), ... ...section and the bedtime hour) and finally Sid (who presents the big fun at five section and who also works with Andy on some occasions).
The channel is packed full of different types of programmes from Teletubbies to Charlie and Lola. A whole day is usually packed full of all sorts of programmes which are both educational and fun. Jacks favourite is the green balloon club at the moment as this is all about animals and has lots of songs.
