WARNING..THEY WILL COME ROUND AND CUT IT OFF

Advantages: They supply gas and electricity otherwise you would have to use firewood and candles!
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, lack of communication

...another final demand threatening that BG would come round and cut off my gas meter. Fine, I thought, goodness knows what they were going to cut off, but it sure wasn’t going to be my gas meter!!! So again I telephoned and they said it could sometimes be up to 3 weeks before they get a confirmation that I didn’t have a meter, so I waited patiently. Advantages: Erm thats a tricky one, help me someone

Have you ever been fooled into signing what you thought was an innocent enough form to find out you have signed a contract to change energy supplier but even more scary is the fact that all fields for personal information and details have been left blank, for what? Life's a gas

Advantages: Still the best gas supplier around
Disadvantages: Can rip off customers

The worst in the world

Advantages: None.
Disadvantages: Plenty. Read above. Too big, rubbish customer service....

It is physically not possible to speak to the same person twice - even getting through to the same call centre is noteworthy. Arrogant and rude sales tactics of British Gas door salespeople

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Rude salespeople knocking on your door and not leaving when asked

I arrived home last night to be greeted just a minute or so later by a knock on the door. It was a man dressed in a suit, with a folder and clipboard in his hand. He didn't say "Good evening", nor did he state his business. Instead he opened by asking if I was Mr (I'm obviously female) So-and-so. Beware if you change from them

Advantages: Good service while you're with them
Disadvantages: Get nasty when you move to a new supplier

At our old house we were supplied by British Gas, which had been saga and a half since moving in. Originally when we moved in there was no gas meter at all, as the house had been repossessed. We had to argue with them for three days that we didn;t have a gas meter before they eventually came out and fitted one so that we could be supplied. A few months later we changed from British Gas to Scottish Power so thatw e could have both the electric and ...
...with SP, we received a bill for £75 from British Gas. Despite ringing them numerous times to tell them they no longer supplied us, we continued to receive bills, until we received a nasty letter advising us that they were sending the bailiffs round to collect the money that didn;t owe them. British Gas - Watch out

Advantages: Name you know
Disadvantages: Slow to act upon application and direct debit

Dispute lasted for 3 years

Advantages: national company, brand name
Disadvantages: they take forever to switch you over

...the £90 wasn't paid to BG very soon I would be getting a court summons. I rang the agency, and told them in no uncertain terms that BG wouldn't be getting a penny out of me. Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Unreliable

...Hackney and at some point BG decided to install the paymeter in the house. A couple of weeks after the installation, the heating packed up. It was winter..and quite cold for any standard. The central heating packed up at 6 pm, when, in principle, it was timed to start. The bigger the company the worse the customer sevice is?!

Advantages: Constant supply of electric,
Disadvantages: no real saving after changing suppliers, more hassle!

Lost holiday

British Gas offer three star service cover, which costs me £165pa, and is both an insurance system and a payment for an annual check on gas appliances. I had an appointment booked for my annual check on a September Friday morning. I took a day of holiday in order to be able to have the check. HOW EFFICENT

Advantages: Combined utility supplies save money.
Disadvantages: None that I have encountered,that can't be sorted.

My wife and myself, decided as have probably many hundreds of thousands of couples, to recieve gas and electricity from the same supplier. and to pay by direct debit to recieve the best cost saving we could. So after some research we decided B.G. to be offering a good price for combined utilities. The only problem we encountered, was after 2 months. The company had failed to pick up the payment mandate for my electricity. Which I believe was a problem ...

And have found any quiries we have had dealt with quickly, and courtiously. 3 star BG cover is a must

Advantages: Don't have to worry about the heating sytem failing or having no hot water
Disadvantages: None

...Every 12 months somebody from BG comes out and checks the boiler over to check for carbon monoxide levels and they also service the boiler, if anything goes wrong they will come out and fix it. Before we had the 3* cover a small part broke on my boiler and as always it was on a Sunday and the workman that we got out was rubbing his hands together, a part that cost about £3 to buy actually ended up costing over £150 with the call out charges and ...
...for the extra cover from BG [you get a 10% reduction for the following year if you don't need to call them out] and in my view is money well spent. You can pay monthly, so you do not end up with a great big wapping bill, and you can sleep at night knowing that you are not going to be ill from carbon monoxide gases. ...
