BMW 1 series as an everyday family car

Advantages: Plenty. Residual values are also truely astonishing!
Disadvantages: The rear doors - they don't open very wide and it's hard to manage getting very young children and the elderly in and out

...to a Peugeot 206; a BMW Z3 to a VW Golf; from a LandRover Discovery to Porsche 911; and from a BMW 330d Sport to a Fiant Punto Mia (1.2). Most recent ly we changed from a BMW X3 to a BMW 116i Sport. If asked to choose which of all the cars we have owned I would recommend the most, I would say that depended to whom the recommendation was being made; however, if like us you have a young family and an active lifestyle, although you might imagine the ...
...worth far less than the BMW would have been and therefore you might not be appreciably better off for having taken the chepaer option after all - in fact you may be demonstrably worse off! Now if that has whetted your appetite for more and all of a sudden that much longed for BMW badge no longer seems so far out of reach, please feel free to read on. The sceptics among you will no doubt be muttering: yeah, but I bet his car insurance is astronomical. ...

The BMW 1 Series, is BMW's 2nd attempt to create a small, hatchback car, the previous one being the 3-Series Compact, which accroding to popular opinion was definetely not one of BMW's best. The cockpit layout and design is beautifully done as well, it is uncomparable to any other small cars interior in terms of beauty and aesthetics. When first driving this car I was amazed, at how good it felt to drive, at the enjoyment it gave me, going ...

Making Up The Numbers

Advantages: Good price
Disadvantages: Heavy; Poor visibility; Pointless starter button

BMW first attempted to sell their souls to the Devil in the 1990s with the introduction of the 3-series Compact, a sort of half-arsed attempt at making a hatch-back version of their market-domineering executive saloon. The problem with the Compact was that it wasn't at all like the 3-series and just sort of shared its name. It wasn't as good as the full size 3-series to drive, either, and the interior was cheap and tacky. BMW declared that it was ...
...future of the design of BMW cars looked bright, until Bangle came up with the 7-series. It was a horrendous design that gave the car a fat belly, moping mouth and tearful eyes for headlights. Rather than appearing aggressive, expensive and stealth-like, the first incarnation of Bangle's 7-series looked wallowy and sad but BMW were on a steam-roller and the family resemblance quickly worked its way down the line until the aggressive BMW 3-series ...

BMW 116 ES......... Disaster - don't do it!

Advantages: Body Styling and Pedigree
Disadvantages: Overdeveloped, Underpowered and Unreliable

I had bought a BMW 116 ES in June of this year and this car regardless of it's good looks and pedigree has been nothing short of a dissapointing, frustrating and hugely inconvenient experience. The car has intermittent problems with starting and will cut out when idleing which has done since it was brand new, this is reported to be an issue with the Engine Management System. The system has been designed to promote better environmental and fuel efficiencies ...

Quick review of BMW 116i

Had a thirty minutes or so with this model, it gets my green light despite its quirky looks & daylight robbery price tag. Good road handling, inspires bullish cofidence on the road, nice motorway cruiser, good braking system, practical, good lights, firm ride but not for the oldie goldies though, good m.p.g., feels bigger than it is, able to fill most roles from Tourer, day shopper to rep running. However the design fault with the indicators may drive you made, & the once middle class lable has now become, dare I say it "a little common." Expect to see Kev & Tracy stickers on the windshield in the future. ...

BMW 116i

Advantages: Brilliant drive
Disadvantages: Lack of power at low speed

I LOVE MY 1 SERIES! The first time i saw them, i wasnt sure of the back bit, and thought it came down too quickly, but now i wouldnt swap it for any car in this price catagory. It is quick when you get up to motorway speeds, but at lower speeds, it is not very quick as it is a heavy car, but apart from that, i dont have anything bad to say about this car. The Ipod connection you can get as an extra is much better than the standard av input, really ...

BMW 116i review

Advantages: Excellent handling and very reliable
Disadvantages: Heavy steering at low speeds

Ok, generally, there's nothing wrong with this car. Although the engine is slightly noisy (which is common for 1.6 litre engines), the handling is extremely superb!!! When tackling corners, the car is fast and make you feel very 'high' though. The ride very smooth, especially on open roads. Now, to the interior. Inside, it is comfortable and nicely furnished. The stereo system is MP3-based and has good speaker sets. But, the only thing i feel is ...
...wheel is nice and thick. The sunroof really makes the car look open and big and the rear leg room is fine with me. Down to the exterior. Overall looks are refined and to me, the car looks sporty when viewed from all angles. One more good thing about the car is the start/stop push button. It's just lovely and convenient. ...

BMW 116i M Sport - Over priced and very bumby.

Advantages: BMW holds it's price, great sexy bodywork.
Disadvantages: Fuel consumption, not enough power in the 116i

I currently have a 116i M Sport. It is a lovely car to look at and usually a lovely car to drive on the A roads or motor ways. I find it can be a bit sluggish to pull away but can more than hold it's own on the open roads. This model sits 1.5mm lower than the others due to the M Sport suspension. This coupled with the run flat tyres results in a very bumpy and uncomfortable ride. Make no mistakes, this is not an ideal car for someone already suffering ...
...3 years from new and love it to pieces but i won't hide the bad points just because i love the car. Enough room in the back for a child seat and a small push chair will fit in the boot. 31.3mpg on a petrol engine is about average for motor ways and about 26.1mpg on local roads. Fuel tank holds 53ltrs so you're looking at near £60 at the pumps based on £1.08 per ltr. Would i buy it again knowing what i know now, yes i would. I still maintain, it's ...

BMW 116i

Advantages: Stylish, comfortable and very reliable, an excellent drive
Disadvantages: Annoying un correctable indicators, excellent customer service

After having previously had a Chrysler voyager, I had reservations about the space and power that would be present in the new 1 series. It turns out that these reservations were unfounded, and I have no regrets about making the switch. I found that the styling is the most aggressive of any of the competing hatchbacks and offers something bold and imposing with it's long wheelbase. Its looks are impressive, but the drive and ride are certainly no ...
...power of the 1.8 would be nice, but the 1.6 has ample to suffice (with a very reasonable mpg as a result). For the first 2000 miles they recommend that you not exceed 4000rpm while the engine breaks in. This can be a little annoying when you first buy the car but you can really feel it open up afterwards. If I had to describe the driving experience in one word, it would be 'positive'. Almost like a go-kart it goes exactly where you tell it to, and ...

review of BMW 116

Advantages: Rear wheel Drive
Disadvantages: Price and appearence

With BMW's long standing history of producing quality cars, expectations where high for the 1 series even before I laid eyes on the car. My first impressions on the car were good; I was pleasantly surprised with the appearance of the car even if it did look a bit girly at first. When it came to the drive, the car came into its own, with the 1.6L version providing ample power and control. The drive was pleasant and the rear wheel drive puts this ...
...As you would expect with any BMW, they don't come cheap, but upgrading is well worth the extra cash. You will soon notice the difference to other cars such as the VW golf. All in all, I found very few problems with this car and would recommend it to anyone. ...

Quick review of BMW 116i

This is a pretty nice car its great for family it has a lot of space if you want to go in vacantion with your friends or children. If you have the money this is a verry good car it can get to a pretty big speed but that's isn;t the only thing cars are made for.So overall on a scale of 1-10 i would give it a 8.5 because this isn't a car made for dinamic drivers its a more casual family car ...

BMW 116i

Advantages: superb chassis and sharp steering. Diesel engines are punchy and petrols are sweet-revving.
Disadvantages: BMW's premium image will cost dear, and rear space is tight

...that helps to give the BMW 1 Series a poise and balance few small family car rivals can match. There is limpet-like grip from the rear wheels, smooth body control and sharp steering. BMW has worked hard at upping its engines’ refinement levels. All are quiet, and the latest 2.0-litre turbodiesel is significantly smoother and quieter than those of Volkswagen Group rivals. Wind and road noise is well contained, too. ...
