Advantages Advantages Looks, Drive experience, interior, the gadgets.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Possible expensive insurance premium and fuel consumption depending on your driving

I have been driving for over 4 years now and I have been quite lucky when it came to having my first car. It wasn't all mine but I got to share my mums BMW for a while, which was great. It wasn't the newest but it was a BMW.After driving that I couldn't really got for anything else as the sheer power and quality of the car drew me in. I drove my mates Fiestas and Polos but nothing could match up to it. Then a driving drought came, I didn't renew the cars insurance with my name on it so I took the good old 'reliable' London Transport. After a year or so doing that and getting cramped and having ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty. Residual values are also truely astonishing!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The rear doors - they don't open very wide and it's hard to manage getting very young children and the elderly in and out

My wife and I have had our fair share of cars over the past 5 years or so - about 12 in total - and each one was very different to its predecessor. For example, we went from a Ford Escort to a Peugeot 206; a BMW Z3 to a VW Golf; from a LandRover Discovery to Porsche 911; and from a BMW 330d Sport to a Fiant Punto Mia (1.2). Most recent ly we changed from a BMW X3 to a BMW 116i Sport. If asked to choose which of all the cars we have owned I would recommend the most, I would say that depended to whom the recommendation was being made; however, if like us you have a young family and an active ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb Handling, Luxurious Ride, Classy, Amazing Looks

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small rear spaces, Poor rear visibility

This review is meant to focus more on the car's performance on the road, and not so much on the financial aspects and inusrance details. The BMW 1 Series, is BMW's 2nd attempt to create a small, hatchback car, the previous one being the 3-Series Compact, which accroding to popular opinion was definetely not one of BMW's best. My family were in the market for a new car, and my father was looking to buy a small practical city car, and had practically settled on the VW Golf 5. However when we both attended a car exhibition, I completely fell in love with the looks of the 1 series. After constant ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good price

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy; Poor visibility; Pointless starter button

BMW first attempted to sell their souls to the Devil in the 1990s with the introduction of the 3-series Compact, a sort of half-arsed attempt at making a hatch-back version of their market-domineering executive saloon. The problem with the Compact was that it wasn't at all like the 3-series and just sort of shared its name. It wasn't as good as the full size 3-series to drive, either, and the interior was cheap and tacky. BMW declared that it was built to target the Golf/Astra market place but by the time they'd finished trying to cut corners and costs it didn't even make it into the Ford ... more

Advantages Advantages Stylish, smooth drive, great extras and interior, enough space

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Indicators

I brought the 1 series after testing a huge range of other cars in the same group size such as the Golf and A3. I choose the 1 series as overall it had the best drive, it looked stylish and just appealed to me. When I first test drove the car I was amazed at the quality of the ride. I took it down some bendy bumpy roads, but this car handled them well, and the ride was so smooth. The gear box is easy to use ( though I do often put it in reverse instead of 1st so i think that may just be me.) The parking distance sensors can sometimes be annoying but once I got used to them and how to best use ... more

5 Stars Quick review of BMW 116i by FINALGEAR 07/01/2009
Had a thirty minutes or so with this model, it gets my green light despite its quirky looks & daylight robbery price tag. Good road handling, inspires bullish cofidence on the road, nice motorway cruiser, good braking system, practical, good lights, firm ride but not for the oldie goldies though, good m.p.g., feels bigger than it is, able to fill most roles from Tourer, day shopper to rep running. However the design fault with the indicators may drive you made, & the once middle class lable has now become, dare I say it "a little common." Expect to see Kev & ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack of power at low speed

I LOVE MY 1 SERIES! The first time i saw them, i wasnt sure of the back bit, and thought it came down too quickly, but now i wouldnt swap it for any car in this price catagory. It is quick when you get up to motorway speeds, but at lower speeds, it is not very quick as it is a heavy car, but apart from that, i dont have anything bad to say about this car. The Ipod connection you can get as an extra is much better than the standard av input, really worth the extra £200 i think it was, as you can go through your ipod on your steering wheel. Fantastic car, I have the 19" allows which are stunning ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent handling and very reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy steering at low speeds

Ok, generally, there's nothing wrong with this car. Although the engine is slightly noisy (which is common for 1.6 litre engines), the handling is extremely superb!!! When tackling corners, the car is fast and make you feel very 'high' though. The ride very smooth, especially on open roads. Now, to the interior. Inside, it is comfortable and nicely furnished. The stereo system is MP3-based and has good speaker sets. But, the only thing i feel is that the seat is a LITTLE bit hard. The steering wheel is nice and thick. The sunroof really makes the car look open and big and the rear leg room is ... more
