Advantages Advantages Excellent engine and general design and road handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quality not up to the name

I bought a 318i 2004 model with the 2 litre engine, new, in Australia. This model is made in South Africa from parts sourced in Germany, I assume as well as South Africa and elsewhere? Initially it appeared to be a wonderful machine. The handling was superb, the ride supple and comfortable on Sydney's not very good road surfaces, and the breaking smooth and excellent. But wait, what was this strange rattle coming from the front windows? The glass was too small for the door, and after 4 returns to the dealer, eventually some Teflon strips were apparently inserted somewhere which more or less ... more

Advantages Advantages Holds value, solid construction, great handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rear space limited, expensive to maintain.

I'm in the motor trade, that means I have driven hundreds of cars and I can safely say that this is one of the best. At the moment I have an L-reg 318i which I have been using for a few months now. Reason for this is that I know it will always get me around to different places and never let me down. Through winter it always started and I recently went away for two weeks, came back and started first time. If you want reliability then buy one. They may be expensive to own and run but if you way it up against a Mondeo or Vectra etc. then over the years the costs will balance out. I would advise ... more

    Advantages Advantages Drive, handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Basic model is very basic!

The BMW 318i is to be fair what some may call the bottom of the range for a BMW. It has no flash features, no sun roof, no CD player, no air conditioning and non of the 101 features that come free with a Ford or Vauxall. And with its price edging towards the 20 grand mark you must get something for your money? The answer is that all you are buying is the car, but what a car! Any one who has driven a BMW will know that the car oozes handling ability. With Rear wheel drive and a sporty 1.8 injection engine the 318 is truly a driving experience. What it lacks in added features it more than makes ... more

    Advantages Advantages solid build, prestigious

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor seats

I chose the 318iSE Auto as my latest company car and am very happy with it. This is the first automatic that I've owned, but I must say, it is very relaxing when queueing on the M4 in the morning rush. The SE gives you slightly fancier alloy wheels and air-con, which is a must if you do much driving by day. It's a shame that the standard Business radio still comes with a cassette (who still uses those?). It is a little bit under powered when accelerating, but in the sport setting it will allow you to overtake the odd tractor. The car has a great build quality and a good solid Teutonic feel ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent back up service from BMW dealers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only one key at any given time

The service provided by these cars are second to none. I had always liked BMW cars and the slightest chance I had to lay my hands on one proved to be one of the best things that happened to me. I like the comfort, effeciency, and reliability of the car. My current car is the third car in a series and they ones I have owned before have never failed me. The suspension is excellent and the security is superby only one key available so there is no chance of someone steeling your car unless they have access to your keys. This was also a disadvantage because if you share a car with some body you ... more

    Advantages Advantages Quiet, smooth, frugal

Disadvantages Disadvantages Parts prices can be expensive

A BMW was the one luxury that I always promised myself as a youngster and the pleasure was finally mine when I bought a 1989 model in mint condition 2 years ago. I still have the vehicle and over the duration of timne I have owned it, I have had very little trouble. For a car of this age I exoected more to have gone wrong with it but I guess the German build quality has stood the test of time. A smooth ride, quiet inside, economical running on unleaded petrol, immaculate condition for the year, all the extras like tilt and slide sunroof, electric windows and central locking and although I will ... more

Advantages Advantages fast, stylish, reasonably priced, climate control, cruise control

Disadvantages Disadvantages usually expensive to repair

Well where can i start... the BMW 318i a truely amazing car for looking stylish but also a great car for everyday life. Also the 318i isn't slow at a possible top speed of at least 135mph! The 318i is the perfect car for nearly every occasion with a great 2.0 litre engine and stylish interior. I prefer the 318i with leather seats but this is an optional extra and isn't compulsary. The car comes with a built in cd player with six possible cds stored so quick and easy changing isn't a problem. The car comes with climate control so you can easily change the temperature to suit you. The car comes ... more

4 Stars Quick review of BMW 318i by MUKS123456 28/10/2007
EYY, ITS A BMW ISN'T IT? I THINK THE NAME SPEEKS FOR IT SELF, IT HAS A GREAT BUILD QUALITY, NICE FEATURES AND BEST OF ALL IT HAS, ATRACTIVE DISTICT FEATURES THAT PROVE THAT THE CAR IS A BmW. THE MODEL HAS A FEW PROBLEMS ACROSS THE E46 RANGE. SUCH AS IT SKIPS LANES ON A ROUND ABOUT, THIS IS BECAUSE THE WISHBONES ARE USUALLY GONE. THE WATER SEAM ON TOP OF THE DOORS CAN GET DAMGED AND CRACKED VERY EASILY AFER 6 MONTHS, THEY COST A PRETY PENNY TO REPLACE, SO DONT SLAM THE DOORS.

Advantages Advantages Amazing looks, exellent drive, compfy, smooth and so on

    Disadvantages Disadvantages costs

at the age of 18, i am looking to buy my first car after saving for two years. For my savings of £8000 there is a vast market at my doorstep, but there was always one car that stood up from all the rest, the bmw 3. Initially it was the realization that i, 18 years old with £8000, could buy a BMW! The BMW 3 has everything i want, and its one step ahead of all the other rivals. looks - There is no argument in this department, this is a sexy car, in my opinion it looks best in black, with shinny silver alloys and possibly tinted windows. The BMW has always been thought of as an older persons car ... more

Advantages Advantages Handling and Build Quality

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The BMW 318 is a lovely car to drive, I have only had mine for six months and I can only say that it is the best car I have driven. The handling is excellent and the traction control system ensures that the full power is always delivered rather than being wasted on wheel spin. The cars build is like no other, it must be one of the most solidly built cars around. Before purchasing this vehile I was considering the Audi A4, but after test drives I was sure the BMW was the car for me due to its handling capability. Also the ride comfort is very good and the controls and instrumentation panel is ... more
