Advantages: Styling, Comfort, Class - most importantly, SEX appeal Disadvantages: Might break your bank
Ever wished for a top range car, but insurance letting you down?Well, I got my wishes when I opted for a 1994 318is coupe. This is my second car. My last was a honda civic, a 1.8 with a Vtec engine.
I had high expectations for this car. And man, this car not only lived up to them, but seduced me with its gorgeous style.
Firstly, its a spitting rendition of its older brother, the M3, but without the massive engine and few other bits and bobs, but ... ...kicking 140 bhp, this is something of a bulldog too.
Alloys come standard as well as metallic paint, alarm+imobilizer (handy to ward off those annoying car jack-asses), full electrics. The interior is lush - plenty of space for you to stretch your legs or even to practise yoga (only in the front though). It feels as though the car was built around you, the driver. Everything, even the stereo, is within easy reach.
If you want to test this car, ...

...comfortable.
It is a trademark BMW in the way that the engine is well sound proofed. It is only noticeable over 5000RPM when the 16valve head kicks into action. The ride is very smooth, the roads around the Lake District seem to be eaten up with no shakes or rattles from now an 8-year-old car. The main advantage with this car though is the styling. Just a spoiler sets it off but I also upgraded the wheels and they fill the arches tremendously. It ... ...but will give away on request.
Overall this is a nice comfy coupe. Personally I would buy something a little more sporty and much more practical. If I was going to pick a BMW E36 I would go for one with a bigger engine just for the over taking alone. ...

Advantages: Quality driving, very smooth and comfortable Disadvantages: Fuel consumption and upkeep costs
...special in a way. The BMW engine size was a 1.8 that I had the pleasure of driving and to be honest they are not fast cars, they are just nice looking and smooth reliable cars that seem to keep hold of their good reputation as times passes. The 1.8 petrol engine was thirsty in my case, but fuel consumption aside - its a very nice, respectable car that really drives lovely. Although the services are expensive from the dealers - so be prepared for ...

Owning a BMW and a good service provider is an experience, I've had an Alfa and an Audi, never been looked after better. Will I buy again, well there is always Ferrari and Porsche, but I think so, provided my local dealer (and with the chance of meeting Damon Hill every now and then) keep up the good work.
(Due for an oil service, a Z3 as a coutesy car would be nice) ...
