BMW 320d M Sport (E46) - Best Used Car Money Can Buy!

AdvantagesLooks Good, Reliable, Exciting, Economic

DisadvantagesFew Problems Require Sorting, NO CUP HOLDERS, Seat Bolsters Rip

"...importantly, whats bad. I purchased the BMW 320d M Sport, 2003 with just under 150,000 miles on the clock and put a further 10,000 of motorway, country lane and city miles, I decided to selling it for a bargain price. This was due to issues developing due to the age I wasn’t prepared to commit too (but will mention). However with a vibrant history and the fairly decent time spent with it, I can give you a very detailed write up. ===History of BMW=== BMW ..." Read review

A cracker of a car Review with images

AdvantagesHandles well, comfortable, reliable, looks great

DisadvantagesMiniscule boot

"My current car is a BMW 320, it is (apparently) a D SE model and was first registered in 2002. This car is an automatic and (again, apparently) is in the saloon style, we've owned it for around six months now and although I've never had any leanings towards BMW I do think this car is a cracker. I wasn't impressed when Mark chose it, with four children I was hankering after a seven-seater car, but from the very first time I drove it I felt comfortable ..." Read review

New facelifted 320D 1998cc 2002 model

AdvantagesPerformance, MPG, Quailty

DisadvantagesRear cabin space, Small boot

"...2002 model from my local BMW dealer in October 2001 for delivery in December 2001. I was impressed with the dealer (Dick Lovett), as the sales guy was not at all pushy but allowed me to take my time looking over the car and responded well to questions I raised. The first test drive I had was with the sales guy and lasted around 40 minutes, he then arranged for me to have the car for the whole day that weekend. This whole day test drive was excellent ..." My first diesel and was pleasantly surprise!

AdvantagesFuel economy is brilliant, over taking power great.

DisadvantagesA bit of turbo lag,and cabin vibration

"...and decided to race a BMW 740i. I was expecting it to overtake me with no problem,so i put the it to steptonic and put my foot down.To my amazement the 320D was neck to neck with the 740i.(Thats a 4litre V8). It would have beaten me on top speed ,so as i already made my point i release the accelerator. It felt good! Back to the review. So far nothing has gone wrong(fingers crossed). The only complain i have is i cant seem to get a comfortable ..." Read review

BMW Sporty Diesel with Low Running Costs

AdvantagesGood Resale value, sporty, comfortable, sleek

DisadvantagesFeels same as a much older model.

"...the ES. This is the second BMW I have owned. the first being a 316 made in 92, and I must report it is amazingly similar to drive. The pedals are offset to the right slightly but this feels quite natural, the, the brakes are exellent, and the clutch is fairly light but has quite a long travel which I find takes a while to get used to. The gearbox snicks as a proper rear wheel drive one should, and feels tight and definite to use. The car is fitted ..." Read review

320d - Potentially expensive failure

AdvantagesPreformance, Economy, choice of trim, extras

Disadvantagesreliability - Expensive turbo failure, Rear Seat Space, Boot Space

"...of the 320D - namely BMW "Numb Bum", which I must admit was not publicised in the brochure. The driving position is also somewhat strange. Both rear seat and boot space are limited and certainly not inline with the size of vehicle, and all BMW's rivals all seem to have more copious amounts of both, so if you have a family (or are planning one) maybe this car is to avoided!. I bought the BMW 320d thinking that I was going to experience comfort ..." Read review

Quick review of BMW 320d

"Purchased a new 320d M sport Sept 06, Customer service by Premier, Llandudno very poor and the same form BMW UK. Just there to take my £29k. Sport suspension seems to have the steering pulling all over the place at times even at high speed, could be the run flat tyres. I have done all that I can to get issue resolved yet BMW do not want to know. Car been back to dealership on 4 occassions not once offered a Courtesy Car only a coffee from a machine. I have always had Audi in the past and certainly will in the future. Customer service 10 times better. In addition the unbelievable loss on a new BMW is amazing do not buy new. Recently offered £10k less from dealer.

Very pleased.

AdvantagesRefinement, performance, chassis, economy.

DisadvantagesAwkward boot.

"I have had this car for about 2 years and 25000 miles, following a 325tds (E36) and a Passat TDI 110. The engine is very quiet once warm, and gives excellent performance between 2000-4500rpm - although there is not much at very low speeds. On a twisty road or when overtaking, it is effortless compared with a 318i - and returns 45-50mpg. Gearchange is good when warm but can be obstructive for the first couple of miles. The chassis is very competent, ..." Read review

A Sleek And Prestiges Car

AdvantagesIt is lighter, better equipped, better performing

DisadvantagesNo disadvantages

"...I would probably mention the BMW 3 Series. Five times. . They have all become benchmarks for whatever followed, standards by which rivals have been judged. Each has become more than the sum of its parts, a defining reference point both for what has gone before and since. They are models in time which transcend time itself. But wherever you start, you end up with the fifth generation today and it's a journey which any car maker would envy. ..." Read review

Quick review of BMW 320d

"Great drive, but in automatic, only getting 34 m.p.g around town. On motorways, over45 m.p.g. I bought mine when 1 year old, it came with most of the available extras, but sat nav disc did not have many of the newer roads, and is expensive to update. Biggest downfall is in snow, I was stranded on a hill unable to move, while a procession of astras, smart cars, mondeos etc swept past me! B.M.W's 4X4's ecepted really are a poor choice for freezing areas of Scotland!

Look Good, and Drive Good

Advantages You are probably looking at one of the best all round cars on the market, not cheap, but great cars

Disadvantages These are expensive and the overall cost of servicing and wear and tear repairs are phenominal

"...for that and its a BMW exaust you will have to buy. I took mine into the main dealers after hearing a slight whistle when clutching. I was told that there was a small hole in the 6 inch flexy pipe that joins the exaust to the engine. For this 6 inch bit of pipe was close to £300.00 as it has a cat in it and i believe there is another two in the system, a complete system is around the £1000.00 mark, so you need a few qiud if anything goes wrong. Last ..." Read review

I forget it's a diesel :o)

AdvantagesDiesel economy without diesel feel

DisadvantagesFast depreciation and expensive servicing

"...and one child! The garage (Victoria BMW in Milton Keynes) were excellent - always very efficient, free courtesy cars and so on - although people do tell me you can take them to non-main dealership garages who are BMW specialists and it's often alot cheaper. I never did though as I wanted a full main dealer service history for when I sold it. On the downside it wasn't cheap (£23,750) and services ranged from £250 to £800 for the biggie. The garage ..." Just Bad

AdvantagesGood cruiser ,Very economical

Disadvantagesunreliable ,poor response from BMW UK and all of the above!

"I purchased it about 3 months ago.Contrary to all the media hype boy this car is a dog. The pedals are offset. This makes the already heavy clutch feel heavier. Its unbelievably easy to stall since the engine has virtually no power until revved beyond 1600 rpm.The gearing is so strange that it will not pull in fourth around a 30mph zone. On the reliability front so far the following bits have been replaced i)complete clutch ii)flywheel iii)door ..." Read review

Quick review of BMW 320d

"Purchased 2007 BMW 320d auto in August. Returned to dealer within 1 week. Unbelievably bad engine noise between 20-50 mph with vibration. Perhaps I was unlucky but have subsequantly had bad experiences with 318 M Sport and 320i (harsh ride, loud tyre noise penetration to cabin). Cars not popular with passengers and family. Rear passenger space is poor. Very overrated car.
